After living in the United States for the last 3 decades I got used to paying steadily increasing rates for my healthcare insurance, with ever decreasing coverage and increasing co-pays etc: While I hate the higher income taxes here in the UK I do love the NHS! However just in case I take a private healthcare coverage too.
I hope it is not TMI but I have suffered from kidney stones for a looonnnggg time. Problem came back, went (NHS) to my GOP who sent me to a urologist, MRI's etc (all free) and things look fine. However while looking at the screen I saw things that concerned me (I know I'm old!) - possible calcification issues. Since I had no heart symptoms my GOP couldn't refer me to a cardiologist so I reverted to my private insurance. Within 2 days I had an appointment with a cardiologist at this little hospital. Small hospital with small parking lot but spaces free. I got the impression that this hospital is purely (largely?) for people like me. Checked in, took a seat, grabbed a coffee and 15 minutes later the Doc comes to get me. Pleasant conversation, a couple of tests and done in 30 minutes followed up a letter and written diagnosis. Easy, pleasant experience. I wish that all hospitals could be like this??
