Stopped into Nukumoi Surf Company in Poipu and really liked the spot. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they have a good selection of island clothing and hats. The location has a fun local vibe with chickens and their chicks wandering around while roosters patrol the beach right outside. They also appear to offer surfboard and equipment rentals. It was advertised as $30 a set but at drop off payment there was a "rental service charge" that the lady added to the invoice for $6 and then reduced to $4 -all without saying anything. I then inquired about it and she said it's for the staff answering questions and washing the gear etc. Honestly this seems like a shady way to give yourself a tip. Wish they would just build any fees into the price or clearly state it ahead of time instead of feeling coerced to pay surprise fees at pickup. read more

Great service and surfing lessons. We had Jonah as our instructor and he was great. He taught us the basics and had solid feedback after every attempt. He also really knew the waves well so we maximized every opportunity to catch a wave. We caught more waves than all the other instructors in the area. Had a blast learning how to surf! read more

Do what you can to find a different board shop for rentals. Rented a channel island surfboard that was clearly a rental with many, different blemishes and dings. When I went to return the board, I had added a small ding to an existing blemish, but the store employees put the blame for the subpar condition of the board for only using it 2 sessions and accused me of trying to repair it myself (by putting resin on an epoxy board)...which I would never do and told them that. Why would I pay to fix a rental board if the rental spot would charge me anyway? Additionally, when i said I wasn't responsible for the other existing dings they immediately assumed I was an inexperienced surfer without ever talking to me and saying mainland people shouldn't be surfing in Hawaii...this was nonesense since I've surfed half my life at harder breaks then where I went to in Kauai. The before pictures supported me saying the dings weren't my fault, but the older woman working insisted that 'we will compromise and you pay for 1 ding and I pay for the other ding'... The leashes are also old and easily come off. In my 2 sessions, the leash came off twice by the Velcro. When I said that in passing to the employee/owner, she had to chime in that I didn't know how to put on a leash and then demonstrated putting it together and yanking it, which any surfer knows is different than when you're in water with tension and sand. She acted like I was simple. Regardless, I paid for my portion of the ding but will never go back here and urge others to go to other rental spots. The customer service was awful and the pretentiousness of the 'professional' surf woman who had to run a surf shop was beyond unacceptable read more

Take a lot of photos of your rental board before you ever rent a board here. The girl who rented me the board did not ask me to look it over carefully when I rented it. Upon return they pointed out a couple minor dings and charged me a "haole" ding repair fee - I know what it costs to fix dings and a squirt of Solarez would have fixed one of them. On top of that, rental girl actually told me that a smaller fin could not be put in the 2 plus 1 center fin box which was not true to say the least. I have been surfing for 55 years and have owned dozens of boards. When I tried to explain to her how a fin box works with a sliding plate and screw she became rude and argumentative with me. Rent elsewhere, you will definitely get a cheaper board with a salesperson who actually know a thing or 2 about surfboards. Mahalo read more

Super friendly service. Cheap surfboard rental, $8/hour $45/day for soft top. Quality of the soft top is not the greatest, lots of dings, but they serve their purpose. You wont be charged for damage unless the board cracks in half apparently. The gentleman handing out the boards in the front had great stories and tips. Short walk to Poipu Beach, but for beginners, drive yourself and the board toward the Sheraton, where there are some public street parking, and go for the beach break between the Sheraton and Marriott. There are some dangerous reef breaks, so please ask if you are not sure. read more

I rented a board here and bought some merchandise from the shop. The rental surfboard was ok. Had some dings on it but served its purpose. I scraped on the reef a couple of time but no noticeable damage, plus it had some cracks on the rails so "no harm no foul" The shirts, and other merchandise were nice. I bought t-shirts and earrings for my daughter. I'd probably bring my own board next time but it's definitely a nice shop. Check it out! read more

Minimal board selection, mid service, charged me 135$ for a scratched fin. For sure not coming back here again.

Ended up loosing the boogie board that I rented and got charged for the boogie board which is fair but also got charged for rental. I feel like if I am paying for a completely new board they could skip the rental charge if they want to keep me as a customer. If you are staying at a hotel you are way better off renting from a hotel. In case you were to lose the board it would only be $40 read more

A group of 7 of us booked a surf lesson while on vacation on Saturday 2/8/2020. 1 member of our party got injured before he could paddle out to meet an instructor and sat on the beach the entire team not even touch a board. Our instructors were awesome and told us we should heard back into the store to find out if a refund was possible. We head back to the store (Nukumoi Surf Shop) and speak with a girl there who says, let's wait until the owner is back in on Monday to confirm but we will get this taken care of for you. I call on Tuesday to confirm the refund is possible and the INCREDIBLY RUDE AND UNHELPFUL MAN I SPOKE TO, named TRAVIS, said that the man who was injured in our party was walking so therefore we cannot just issue a refund without a doctors note. He also claims to be the manager in charge and that he has no idea when the owner will be in. The last time I checked, being able to walk does not mean that someone can swim, let alone surf. Our injured party member spent the rest of the days on the island hobbling around and didn't even touch the water after he was hurt. As this review is coming from me hanging up my phone with Travis and sitting in the airport, I'm very confused as to the extreme lack of customer service. All in all, there's plenty of surf schools in Kauai, so it may be best to go to one where they actually care about their guests who are coming in as first timers looking for an adventure. read more

Great service. Reasonable prices. Keep in mind when you check out a surf board, it is your responsibility to check the board along with the person giving you the board. Take photos if you need to. If you did not see the ding when checking out the board and you return it with a ding... that is your fault. You caused the ding. Selection is good for surfboards. We got premium surf boards but have to go early and/or call ahead of time. Body boards.... Not very good. Need to retire a few.... BUT if just for beginners or your kid then perfect as not much to worry about the condition when you bring back as much. read more

Awesome beach rental shop in Poipu beach. The shop is located right next to the beach by the shops and parking. This was the only place in Kaua'i that had a Yelp check in deal. 25% off your second rental. They were also running a ton of sales on their merchandise and equipment rentals. They have cute clothes, hats and shoes for sale for men, women and children. Tons of funny puns. I am regetting not buying more souvenirs from here. They were super cheap and very orginal compared to a lot of the other shops. Staff is so friendly and willing to help you. We rented 2 boogie boards for the whole day and ended up paying $14.
