My husband and I came on 7/19/2024 visiting the island and wanted to pick up some bodyboard fins, so we went to this shop to get some. The customer service in this shop is poor at best, especially with this male employee who was rude when we were looking for fins. My husband asked where the fins were and he said "back there" rudely. So my husband goes to the back to look for fins. As he was trying on fins, the male employee came up and rudely said "why you don't ask for help before touching the fins?!" He was mad that we were going through the fins without asking for help. He also failed to mention that these were rentals. He was arguing with me about it in front of other customers. A young worker named Jayna had great customer service when me and my wife were looking for a water bottle's.

My wife and I walked in here on 07/19/24 looking for some bodyboard fins. I was looking around and an Asian male employee with tattoos rudely asked what I was looking for. When I told him I was looking for some bodyboard fins he got angry with me and said that they were in the back. Just pointed to the back of the store. He did not specify exactly that the fins for sale were under the surfboards, which he should've specified, or even better yet show me where they were. So I found some fins that were "rentals" but I did not know they were rentals at the time. So I'm going through the fins thinking that these were all for sale. As I was searching he came over he rudely came over and said "Before touching stuff why don't you ask for help." he was rude and disrespectful and had no aloha spirit. He had made some remarks under his breath and was arguing with my wife. I told him to relax. Nobody talks to me and my wife like that. The owner needs to know how his employees are treating his customers. He needs to be fired! I would highly recommend going to another surf shop for your bodyboard fins! Don't come here. read more

Rented a long board for 3 days. Very little used for paddling around Poipu beach. On return told "bottom scratched" and charged additional fee. Have rented innumerable times from Nukumoi and never had issues with much heavier use. Unfortunately PS seems to want to "nickel and dime" you for $...be very careful about their pre rental form...all their well-used boards have "scratches" and "dings" and would advice renting elsewhere or being meticulous about photos of rentals before you leave. Too many choices nearby with better customer service! read more

Older kids took surf lessons from Adam and Alistair from the shop. These 2 are The Best Surf Instructors. Super patient, kind, professional and fun. The training video at the store was great and also enabled the group to jump into the water almost right away when we got to the beach. After being gifted a Poipu Surf shirt last Christmas, I was looking forward to shopping there myself during our trip back to my wife's hometown. The store is packed with all kinds of cool stuff and all quality products. During our first visit to the store, Melia (sp?) helped my wife with finding sizes for different swim dresses, so I appreciated that so she could get through the fitting quicker. Lol On our last day on Kauai, we had hours before we had to be at the airport. So we stopped a second time and I made sure to pick up several shirts for myself. They're super soft and comfortable! Charlie was behind the counter and he was pleasant to talk to, made sure to ask us about our trip. All the staff were quick to lend a hand and seemed genuinely interested in their customers. We try to visit Kauai at least once a year so looking forward to shopping here again. read more

The location is great and convenient ---- that's the good news. The bad news is the service is lacking and we were made to feel like an inconvenience for the workers. We rented two surf boards for the day (more like a few hours) and one of the manager's handled the initial paperwork. The boards were near their end of life and quite beat up but she made notes on all of the scratches/dings --- yet never showed us the notes so we could agree. And you have to leave a signed credit card totaling $750 per board if not returned. But these aren't new and nothing close to that value. In any case, when we returned the boards the manager was gone so returning beat up boards was a challenge for the remaining workers and it took far more time than needed to resolve. I would HIGHLY recommend you take a video of any rental items from this place before you leave the store. This feels like we could have been hit with a very large bill for something we didn't do. read more

I was going to do an exchange, But now according to them, because of Covid, I was unable to do any returns. Disappointing I bought my daughter a shirt there for $80 for Christmas. After she opened her gift and tried it on it was too large. Anyhow, I popped in there this evening to do some more shopping. I had two pairs of olukai sandals and a pair of shoes. My kids and wife were shopping. We were likely to spend around $600 bucks. However the fine print on the receipt said that we could only return the shirt we were returning within 3 days. I was kinda blown away as it is still new. The kid behind the counter was super kind and I couldn't be upset with him as he said it was just store policy. Nevertheless, the lack of return forfeited the larger purchase. We came here during a big covid shut down and we have been enthusiastically supporting small businesses. Even though I can find the same sandals on Amazon for 20% less and not have to carry them home I was choosing to support this business. It is apparently geared towards tourists and has little regard for their patronage. What a pity. read more

Awesome surf/skate shop. This is a really cool store, with awesome apparel, fantastic prices, and amazing employees. We stopped in with our 2 boys along with friends who also have 2 boys. That makes 4 boys under the age of 8 running around the store like crazy. Most places would have been a little upset, but Tita & Jerry (yes.. I actually remembered their names because they were so great) were very accommodating and extremely helpful. They even gave each of the boys a gift. Horrible. Over a 10 day vacation we spent hundreds of dollars in this store. Including a pair of sandals for my 3yo son. He loved them but they broke after two days. I went back to exchange them and was told I had to "take it up with Reef", and that because they don't make the sandals that they won't take them back if they're broken. When I asked why they would help me he said he didn't have to help me and then rolled his eyes and dismissed my concerns. It was heartbreaking how rude he was to me as I lived this store. read more

I had the happy experience of venturing into POIPU SURF yesterday, Sunday, 29March. From the welcoming "Aloha" to the terrific, mindful and knowledgable asiistance I received while shopping the entire experience was a delight. The two wahines who assisted me could not have been more helpful - even looking for something that I requested in cartons of new arrivals which had not yet been inventoried. They have the most complete stock of YETI products imaginable - in all the new colors and a choke clothing selection. Even a sale rack where I found the best deal ever on a sweet pair of Hurley in/out of water tights. Of course, the store practices all Covid safe precautions. I cannot recommend this store and their helpful staff hughly enough! read more

Hard to find a quality surfboard to rent in Poipu. These guys didn't have one either. But they sure were friendly and helpful. Shout out to everybody who helped me. There was a lady who helped me try on sunglasses and two guys who helped picking out the right board from their very limited, beat up, selection. One of them was Levi. Wish I knew the other two. But a nice shop in general. You should try offering quality surfboard instead of the crappy pop outs. You'll stand out in town cause nobody else does. read more

Just bought a SUP board and my husband and I received EXCELLENT customer service. Billy is very patient and knowledgeable about the products. Due to their AWESOME MEMORIAL DAY special, They were sold out of both board bags (specific sizes) and paddles, he called in to the sister store to check their inventory. Now I have a board bag and paddle waiting for me to pick up, and because he knew I wasn't satisfied with color options for a leash, rather than make a sale, he suggested I wait and see what options I have when I get to their sister store.
