One night last year when the boyfriend and I were deciding what to eat, we eventually settled on Chinese, but wanted something different than our go-to place. After looking up other restaurants in the area, we thought we'd try No. 1 for our "something different." Let's just say after that decision, my boyfriend found a new favorite Chinese place. His order-- the pork fried rice with a side order of chicken wings-- is very good. The rice is very flavorful and even has bean sprouts, which we both love, and the wings are nice and crunchy. Me on the other hand, I've tried different meals from here and have never been disappointed. Always friendly and fast service as well. Just a tip, it's cash only here. Don't usually carry cash on you? No problem-- the Turkey Hill next to the strip mall No. 1 is located in, has a PNC ATM on the outside, and I believe you can withdrawal cash in multiples of $10. read more

Service is fast and good. Food not so much. Years ago this was our go to Chinese Restaurant and we ate there a lot. They changed owners a few years ago. The quality of the food really went downhill. You still get a lot for your money. They have also added a lot of new items. The problem is the food just really isn't good. Saw in another review that they refused cash. That is 100 percent false. The food is usually very good but this was a pretty bad experience. The House Special fried rice was flavorless with long gray strips of a mystery meat, no shrimp or veggies and very little pork . The General Tso's chicken was very sweet and the chicken with broccoli was greasy with no flavor and old tasting broccoli. Even my egg drop soup was a wash . Not really top quality Chinese. I had the General Tso's chicken with Pork Fried Rice and Broccoli. The chicken was mostly tough as nails, the pork fried rice was quite brown and not very tasteful, and the broccoli was dark and soggy. Overall I was not impressed at all. First of all I have to say that the previous reviewers who are bitching about "cash only" should just go someplace else. I've lived in many states and most Chinese take out places want only cash. For good reason. People rip them off with checks from closed accounts or bad credit/debit cards. There are ATMs everywhere. I had to stop at one today before I picked up my order. No big deal. I really enjoy their roast pork egg foo young. The fried rice is pretty tasty too but I usually add hot mustard to it to give it that extra oomph. For the prices they charge the food is plentiful and good westernized Chinese food. Sure, I've been to Chinese restaurants on the upper east side of Manhattan and paid three times as much for exceptionally prepared food. Number One Chinese is not a restaurant in Manhattan. Name says it all. It is the #1 Chinese restaurant in Lancaster. Their soup and egg rolls are homemade. The portions are huge. I am a little confused about the cash only comments from the other posts???? There is an ATM 50 feet away at the Turkey Hill. Sesame Chicken, Hot and Sour soup are our favorites. Best Lancaster Chinese restaurant so far! I've tried soooo many. Yangs, golden wall, Tony Wangs, the big buffet on fruitville pike, you name it. I stayed basic this particular night and just ordered pork fried rice, chic w/broccoli, and sweet and sour chicken for the kids, and an eggroll. Everything was very very tasty. The brown sauce they used for the chicken and broccoli was very flavorful! I loved it. This place was busy, which is always a good sign. But it is CASH ONLY!!!! Just wanted to make you aware. This place deserves the award for "Best Chicken and Broccoli." Their delivery is always quick and though there have been a few misses, particularly with their fried wontons, I have there number in my contact list for good reason. Ate here one time and ordered General Tso's combo. Needless to say it was the second worst I have ever had. The sauce was more like the sauce for egg foo young. It was brown and thick. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I've actually enjoyed a dish or 2 from this restaurant however today, when I called to order delivery someone picked up the phone then hung up. I was then compelled to call back, thinking perhaps I had the wrong number. I called a second time and a girl answered and although several co-workers and I have ordered delivery from here on several occasions she tells me "we don't deliver that far." So I assure her that we've ordered there before and they've delivered here before. She then tells me "Well, the delivery guy won't go back there then." Feeling a bit frustrated and more importantly disrespected I ask to speak to a manager; her reply "They aren't here." and immediately hangs up on me. RUDE. DISRESPECTFUL. My family ordered here for the first time since it was around the corner. It was the worst food I have ever had. The boneless spare ribs were extremely dry, the egg rolls were burnt. The rice was ok. The steamed dumplings made me gag. Not only were they still very sticky and felt undercooked, the meat was absolutely horrible. It was like nothing I have ever tasted before in my life. My family was visiting the area and just picked from the Chinese places near our hotel. What good luck we had! The food was tasty, the portions were large, and the people were very nice. If you're a Chinese food aficionado, you won't say it's the best Chinese food you've ever tasted. BUT, it's a very good take-out place, and I wish there were a place like this near my home.
