The funny thing with this station is that the two stations before it (coming from the city end)…read morelook exactly like this one, but then again I guess railway stations are sort of supposed to look fairly similar so there is that. However, it is quite a nice station, and the trains do pass through here quite regularly which is certainly something that I appreciate. The thing that annoyed me though is the lack of facilities, and by facilities I mean rest rooms. However, there is one nearby so I guess that does make up for the lack of facilities in the station.

All I'm gonna say is that my previous local train station was Dandenong…read more So, it may not have the latest and greatest signs and technology, but I'm happy to be not fearing for my life at 10pm on a Friday night. And it's certainly prettier than most stations. Only bummer is that most Cranbourne/Pakenham lines are express and therefore skip this station.

It is quite close to the shops, which is also a pretty good thing, and the trains are also reasonably frequent, and some of them are express as well, which I certainly do appreciate. Sure, it might not be one of my favourite suburbs in Melbourne, but the station does have some charm, and there is also a bus interchange as well, which also helps.

Anyway, the station itself is rather charming, and it is pretty close to Sydney Road as well, which means that it is a rather short walk to a rather vibrant district. Mind you, it doesn't have much in the way of facilities, however the station itself is rather charming.

This station is actually rather tacky, and it is actually the last station along the dual track…read moresection of the line, meaning that you end up having trains hanging around until another train passes by. Look, it serves its purpose, and it is fully staffed as well, and reasonably close to the shopping centre, but no hugely close. It certainly isn't one of my favourite stations, and while it does serve a purpose, it doesn't look doing doing it (though I should point out that they are now duplicating the track from here, except there is a section that won't be on the grounds that the bridge it crosses is heritage listed).

One thing that I love about Victoria are some of the old style stations that you see around the…read moreinner-city suburbs, and this is certainly one of them. Okay, I suspect that they are slowly disappearing due to the need to grade separate the railways, which means that in part if you want to check out these memorials to a buy-gone age you need to be quick. While it is basically a suburban station, the old style wooden design certainly gives it some character.

This is one of those really nice railway stations that are unfortunately not long left for this…read moreworld. The reason being is that it will be replaced with the level crossing removal scheme, which honestly, is really needed at this particular spot considering how much of a major road Bell Street happens to be. However, I will miss this lovely old wooden station, though there is a possibility that it might be saved for posterity.

I did catch a train from here years ago, and I believe that this used to be one of those stations…read morewhere form basically follows function. However that has changed since they decided to elevate the railway line over the road, namely so that traffic wouldn't bank up whenever a train passed by. Well, the station looks much more modern these days, and has a lot more facilities as well, including a warm waiting room, a ticket office, and of course toilets (which are sorely lacking from a lot of the older stations). Another thing that I certainly appreciate about this station is that it happens to be located near some shops, which means that it is good to stop off at for a coffee, or grabbing a bite to eat.

This is one of the newer stations that have been built along the Mernda line, where they opened it…read moreup beyond South Morang (and now they need to extend it all the way to Whittlesea). Anyway, they certainly have done quite well with these stations. They are large, spacious, and the trains are reasonably frequent. They are also staffed, which is pretty good, and have facilities as well. Oh, they are also pretty accessible as well. They have certainly come a long way since those rather disappointing stations of the mid-20th Century.
