After 15 years of diabetic neuropathy pain they were the only people to resolve my issue

I had a spinal cird stimulator from 2002 until it literally stopped working. It turned on every day at 800 am and off at 1000pm. My internal alarm clock...toward its 'final days' it was working at the highest level...I really thought everyone could hear it cause I sure could. Thank GOD for Dr. Schultz...he made certain I knew ALL the issues and problems that might arise...I lost count of the forms I signed... I'm older and kinda wish I still had it...but I just wanted to say that chronic pain forces people to look to everyone everywhere to make it stop. My suggestion is to talk to.people who've had the stimulater implant-both pos and neg experiences. It saved my life! Still cannot do a backend thought ;) read more

I've been with Nura for a couple years now. They are really good at listening to you and managing your pain. I have a pain pump and am managed in other ways with medication and procedures as needed. Sierra has been a blessing and really listens to her patients. I'm grateful. I'll never been pain free, but Nura helped me get to a point of functioning again. Thank you. read more

First I would say the staff is fantastic. However, the Doctors are much more interested in billing the insurance companies, then they are taking care of patients.. They have no problem making you wait 2 weeks in pain, Then you have a useless phone consultation. The purpose of the consultation is so they can bill the insurance company. Then they schedule a procedure 2 more weeks out, So now I've been waiting 1 month I would not recommend their clinic. Staff is great,Doctors and systems a flawed. read more

I have been dealing with two herniated discs, back pain and deep weakness this lower butt and upper legs for 20 years. I have avoid surgery with lots of PT and Chiropractic care the last 10 years. Now that I am retired I decided to have surgery but insurance is delaying my surgery. My surgeon recommended steroid injections to help in mean time. He listed 3 suggested locations in my back that he felt may offer some relief. The first two on my list were performed at a respected clinic in Minnesota and neither helped my pain or weakness much. I called Nura and got to see Dr Stayner and after looking at my X-rays, MRI s and doctors notes and listening to me he determined that injection location and direction that had been overlooked so far would be a better option. Two weeks later I received the Injection and the results were astounding and lasted 6 weeks. I had to wait 6 more weeks for a second injection and that one lasted 7.5 weeks, both far exceeding my best hopes of relief. I thank DR Stayner for considering my options that were over looked by other doctors. He also suggested to me options for other low invasive back surgeries that I may have better luck getting my insurance to cover. In the meantime, I'll continue to get these injections every 14 weeks. read more

Hello, I have never been happier in my life for reaching out to Nura. My pain had gotten to the point that living was becoming harder and harder. I have been to so many Surgeons, Dentists, ER's Neurologists, Pain Clinics Specialists, I can't even give you a number. The minute I arrived I knew I was in the right place. So friendly, compassionate and just the kindest people. When I got to see the doctor it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. For him to immediately diagnose me, assist with pain and expedite surgery after suffering from Trigeminal Neuropathy for over a year with no one at all diagnosing it, watching me cry in pain and offer no solution. Had a pre-operation appointment, to be cleared for surgery. As I'm bare-assed in a gown, the anesthesiologist explains he can't do the job. So, they decided to do do a spinal cord stimulator implant without anesthesia. When the stimulator ultimately did not work, they refused to do a surgery several months later to remove it. I had to go through a different clinic and surgeon to get it removed. Avoid this place, like the plague. read more

Nura will comment on this comment but I have already called and so far they will not do anything! Just pay your bill for our inflated back brace ! If anyone else gets a spine stimulator watch out for a charge of $1400 submitted to your insurance for the Aspen Horizon 637 LSO OTS Backbrace. I offered to buy a new one and replace it Nuru said No! I can't believe Nuru finds it ethical to charge patients this price for a back brace while literally everywhere you can buy it for $225 bucks! Whoever heard of charging $1,400 for a back brace that cost $225 from the actual company and you can buy it anywhere on the internet for that price and from the company itself. Please make this right. My appointment was $203.00 with a PA and a nurse. How can you charge more for a back brace given at that appointment than their time? Again, the back brace doesn't cost that much. My insurance company called and is waiting on a return call as they are wondering why they submitted a charge of $1400 to them when other places are changing $225 for the same back brace but they have not heard back from Nuru. I had a back stimulator put in to my back. Which on the morning of my surgery the different leads from my husband's company that were supposed to be put in my back but WITHOUT my knowledge Nura changed what leads that were going into my spine WITHOUT telling me or my husband which Nura discussed apparently the night before among themselves in regards to my surgery change but never called me the patient to tell me that I was going to get different leads. I was supposed to get 32 leads in my back from more coverage, but I ended up only getting 16 leads in my back. As of now, the stimulator is not working at the braline, and it's the entire reason I had surgery. it's been a bit over two months. Looks like possibly I needed more coverage. My husband and I both feel that it's just a way for me to have another surgery to get two more leads put in, so I have 16 . What is hard to believe about the back brace situation is my bill for an appointment with a PA and a nurse was $208, which is the same day they gave me the back brace but They charged $1,400 FOR A BACK BRACE THAT COST $ 225 EVERYWHERE and that had to be adjusted as it was run through insurance and they're now wanting me to pay almost $700 for a back brace! The back brace is more than the cost of the appointment! I offered to buy a new one and return it. Nope, not willing to work with me! I actually called the company that makes the back brace, plus it's all over the internet. You can buy it pretty much anywhere, the same model, same type exactly, and the same one that they sell for $225. It is ridiculous that they're trying to charge patients this much. I mean, I can just buy the back brace new and just return it to Nura. Maybe start running fewer ads on TV and stop charging your patience $1,400 for a BACKBRACE. If you get a stimulator, they make you get this backbrace. We don't even see how you can consciously charge people $1,400 for a back brace when you know they don't cost that much. There's a big difference between 225 and $1,400. You could resubmit a cost to the insurance company. You're more willing to lose me as a patient, and I've spent hundreds hundreds of dollars with you over years of service as a customer, and I wasn't done yet. I actually need another surgery. I've had multiple problems with you guys. This isn't my only problem talking to you does nothing. And reading reviews I'm not the only one who is expressing this! Feels like factory farming for pain management. First doctor I saw for a procedure, was unclear on what area of my spine he was treating and I had to clarify even though the medical records were clear. Then during the procedure, assistants had to correct him as he prepared to treat the wrong side of my spine. At this point, I knew I had to be a very active advocate for my care. At a subsequent visit when I asked questions before and after procedure, Dr Bettendorf was extremely defensive and then became rude. I could hear her talking about me in the common area outside my curtained room. I asked about the conversation that I overheard and she lied to my face, denying what she had said. When I wrote a formal complaint, the team dismissed my concern. DO NOT GO HERE! They need to clean up their act and prioritize patient care. Predatory pain management with poor results. read more

WOW, Larry Studt was the rudest Dr I have ever seen and that is saying a lot. The surgical area is dirty and I was subjected to a woman, not a Dr, reading my report in a monoton voice. I asked questioms even though I knew it was artheoarthritis. they gave me an injection with sedation then walked me outside to have me sit at a picnic table 2 weeks after my knee replacement, walking on the uneven grass. They did call me several times after that and were surpried that I didnt want to go to their clinic. No thank you. read more

I am shocked and amazed at the reviews of NURA -- because I thought I was the only one! I had been to MAPS many years earlier, before the name change to NURA, which had some benefits. But the change to NURA was much more than a name change. The Doctor Schultz' brothers changed their philosophy in treating pain, one that has turned out disastrous for a large majority of patients. MAPS helped one learn to live with pain. NURA pretends they can eliminate pain. It took several visits to NURA for injections before the ones re the spinal cord stimulator. In the meantime, I got my first bill. Although insurance had approved all visits, apparently I had a $780 co-pay per visit after insurance paid!!! This due to the fact that NURA is classified as a Class 2 Outpatient Surgical Center. So any injection was considered surgery at an outpatient surgery center, and more expensive than class 1! This first bill included about 4 or 5 visits with injections on it. No surprise that all future appointments were cancelled. By me! They still wanted me to come in one last time to discuss the stimulator. I agreed on the condition there would be no charge. Get back to reality, guys; you're messing with real people here. read more

Very upset. Had my third shot in my knee a week ago. As the day progressed I knew something was very wrong! Friday night I ended up going via ambulance to the ER. Apparently a blood vessel was nicked and because I am on blood thinners I had internal bleeding in my knee. Swelling and extreme pain! Normally they drain it but again, on blood thinners so they didn't want to. Sent me home with ace bandages and a walker Stuck in my room Mothers Day and a week after. I was asked 3 times if I took my Eliquis before my procedure and I state yes. Do they were well aware. read more

i have been a patient of Dr. David Schultz for over 25 years. I have head pain that is debilitating. Trying to get an appointment in a timely matter is extremely difficult, it is like "pushing a rope." One time I went over early in the morning and sat on the steps waiting for them to open. I need help now, not 3 weeks from now. My cervical epidurals always helped me. Last fall, Dr. Berendorf did the cervical epidural, because I couldn't get an appt. with Schultz or Stayner for a month. During the procedure, she nicked my spinal cord. Thanks to good neurologists, courage center, urgent care, I recovered 95% in 6 months. No help from Nura, no acknowledgment of any wrong doing. I have moved on to Twin Cities Pain Clinic, primary doctor recommended. Awesome experience, calm environment, outstanding care, you are not just a number. My only regret was not doing this sooner. I could never ever recommend Nura now, even though Dr. Schultz got rid of pain, that wasn't the issue, the issue was waiting so long to get in. this was my first visit seeking information regarding neuropathy in my feet. Appointment lasted less than 20 minutes with no direction. I received a $650 bill. There were no x-rays. I went to NURA for head and neck pain from Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Cancer only to find out after an MRI at my Oncologists office that the pain was the result of several infected teeth which I had removed and got dentures. During this 2-3 week period NURA pushed and pushed for me to get a Fentanyl Pump installed inside my body, but I had no cancer pain, still don't, so they gave me 100 tablets of Oxycontin and told me to come back in two weeks to have the fentanyl pump installed. I couldn't run away fast enough. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY. A FENTANYL PUMP BRINGS THEM 1000s OF DOLLARS. RUN AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY. read more

I never leave reviews, but after seeing all the commercials for NURA, I had to give my story. I was being treated for a number of years and had multiple treatments for degenerative disease in my low back. Nothing offered relief except low dose Tramadol. I never missed an appointment and followed through with both behavioral health and PT appointments, but at some point Dr. Peter decided they would no longer continue treating me. My guess is that I wasn't making money for the organization when I no longer wanted to receive injections, etc. since I got no relief from them. The commercials make it seem like they have your best interests at heart. Trust me, it's all about the bottom line!! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!! read more

We were referred to Nura by our neurologist on June 24. July 29 and we just received a call for our 1st appt. For the past 3 weeks, we have been in contact with our referring provider, our insurance company, and Nura. Nura is clueless about the insurance process. The referring provider and our insurance stated that the correct paperwork was sent over on the 27th of June. No one at Nura could confirm and they told us several times that they had not received anything from the insurance company. We had to give Nura the insurance number to contact them and get the required information. We should not have to do that for them. They have left us with nerve-related pain for 6 weeks. This operation is not run well and gives the impression of not caring for their patients. We have requested a different referral, and judging by the awful reviews we have read, it is a good thing we have. STAY AWAY! read more

Avoid getting the pain pump or any piece of equipment they want to put in you requiring surgery from Dr Schultz and this clinic at all cost, your life may be at stake! and you do not want what happened to me to happen to you! Even a person with a H.S education knows you do not put anything in the body cavity, especially a long rubber catheter, which Dr.Schultz. Did and several months later, it wrapped around the main artery to my bowel strangling it. I collapsed in so much pain and had to lay there on the floor in a fetal position, unable to move for 2 hours before my husband came home and found me, then he had to rush me to the e.r, they had to knock me out before rushing me by ambulance to the cities to save my life, and life has never been the same. If he does this to you, good luck finding a lawyer, because unless you die, no lawyer wanted this case which left me having to wear depends all the time, ever since I was woken 7 days after surgery and being kept intubated, because it has left me with uncontrollable diarrhea 7-10+ times a day. Dr. Schultz, killed me!!! and 3 1/2 years since I collapsed, nothing has improved and nothing and no doctor can fix what he destroyed. I spent 3 weeks in the hospital, they had to keep me intubated for 7 days, during which they opened me up 3 times to make sure the bowel did not die, it didn't but may as well have. I had to have a second surgery to to remove more of their equipment, my weight dropped to 80 lbs, and I'm 5'5", not pretty!, Because I lost so much weight, I lost 85% of my hair and had to buy wig, I was almost bald!. Then when I finally emailed them, to say how upset I was and what he had done to me, I wanted the whole clinic to know what he did to me, THEY called me back, I thought I was talking to the business manager, they she said, she said, could she call me next week to see how I was doing because I was so upset and crying when I was talking to her and I said yes, then she asked could the business manager call me and after talking to to the business manager, I thought who was the first person that I spoke to, and I hope she did not make an appointment for me and I called the clinic back on a Thursday, and spoke to a male and I said, I'm not sure who called me but did she make an appointment for me for the following week, he said yes, you have an appointment next Tuesday, and then he said it was the psychologist that had called me and I said cancel that appointment I will never go back to their clinic ever again! he got pissy and said fine, it's cancelled and he hung up on me. Then a month later, I got a bill for the copay, I could not believe it, they fraudulently billed my insurance for an appointment that I did not make, they called me! and then sent me a bill for a co-pay. If you want to get better, go on the medical cannabis it helps!!!! and avoid at all costs having your life destroyed like Dr.Schultz destroyed my life. I won't live like this and have stopped my anti-rejection drugs that I take from a kidney transplant that I had 26 years ago, I can't live like and no one can fix what he destroyed!, it has completely isolated me, I don't want to go anywhere, be around anyone. One last thing, I asked Medtronics what kind of training they provide, they don't! So how do they learn how to "put this pump in?" questions I wish I knew to ask before having him destroy my life. read more

I moved to MN from CA and had to find a new pain management provider. I have adult onset scoliosis and a pain pump imedded in my body. From the time I went off pain patches to a pump, I've seen 5 pain management doctors. The California doctors were in the process of removing the opiod pain medication from my pain pump because they said Congress & the laws said I had too much. When I moved to MN, I interviewed several pain management offices and NURA came very highly recommended by word of mouth from a VP from a company called Medtronics which made the pain pump I use. The two doctors in charge of NURA interviewed me and I knew immediately that things were going to be unlike my CA experience. The NURA doctors seemed more concerned with my pain level than the amount of pain medication I used. They wanted to provide more help for my pain but allow me to function as a normal human being, not someone spinning out of control on drugs. They've used a combination of opiod treatments, numbing medications, and a pain psychologist with a team of nurses and advisors whom I see about every three weeks. That's because my pump is small and needs to be refilled more frequently than today's size pumps. I'm not able to do all that I used to do, but I'm able to do more than I could in CA. I am definitely happy I found NURA and that they accepted me in their practice. I'm grateful to everyone one of their staff who work with me when I come in. read more

First appointment there, the physician was unfriendly and condescending. As a 62 yr. old former RN who has had 6 unsuccessful back surgeries, I am very familiar with treatments offered...but he treated me as if I didn't know anything about ANYTHING!! So, I left, with no help, and I wouldn't go back. Ever. read more

Took care of my disc neck pain just fine. First appointment with David Schultz, insurance consulted and then the procedure.

I saw Dr Peter Schultz regarding my lower back pain. I waited 45 minutes past my appointment for him to come in & see me. When he did, he pressed on my right leg & said I had bursitis. He was in such a hurry that when I tried to tell him that the pain was coming from my 4th & 5th vertebrae, he said "no" and that was the end of the conversation. I did not get a chance to tell him that I had an MRI to prove it! He also said he doesn't give out pain medication but the flyer in the exam room said "Medication Management" so that is false advertising. He also had me sign a form for my medical records & I don't know why. He did not say that he wanted to see me again. Last of all, on the After Visit Summary sheet that I received, it says "Given acute scrip of Oxycodone 5mg up to 2x/day (20 as needed.) He never sent that prescription over to my pharmacy as they told me they never received it from him. As far as I am concerned, everthing was totally unprofessional and not in the best interest of the patient. I would not recommend Dr. Schultz or Nura Pain Clinic to anyone! read more

Terrible experience. Do not go to this clinic if you can avoid it. I worked with Rouguy Bah DNP. She prescribed a pretty invasive procedure because of how "severe" the problem was, but then wouldn't give me medication to get through the two weeks until the procedure. She told me to call if the pain got worse and then literally never answered. They have a nurses line that they never answer. They literally just will not reply. In the appointment, they barely even assess your pain and background. She was literally the worst person I've ever seen there. It used to be MAPS, they just changed their name. Do not be deceived!!! Reviews on the Nura internet site are all A+... however I would advise you to check out more objective sites like Yelp! It's an entirely different story ..This provider is more interested in their bottom line than your health. You can also look them up on the Internet by their previous name, MAPS ( Medical Advanced Pain Specialists.) During my one and only 30 minute visit to Doctor Peter Schultz , he seemed quite anxious to transfer my pain meds (which I had been taking for 5 years) from my Internist and then when I needed a refill he refused without seeing me first. He insisted he told me I had to be seen once a month for any refills.($$$). I then listened to my personal recording of the office visit.... and NO, he had not told me!! Nor is the statement written in their opioid agreement that each patient has to sign. I was completely out of my meds and Dr. Peter Schultz refused to refill even a partial month until I made another appointment ($$$). BTW, I had an appointment for an injection for May 12th but apparently that didn't qualify as an appointment. He said I would have to wait over the weekend with zero medication and then on Monday set up either an in-person or virtual visit. ($$$). Well I made a call to my Internist's office and  had an immediate response.. they called my pharmacist who then refilled my medication for another 30 day supply... I cancelled my upcoming appointment for the injection and will happily leave the Nura Pain Clinic in the dust. Nura Clinic is a hassle-laden, uncooperative Clinic which I would NOT recommend. I was here for the third time in a year for a procedure. My impression has remained the same. The check-in process seems very disjointed and unprofessional. The waiting room is not large enough and there are not sufficient bathrooms. It feels very much like an assembly line. You can tell the staff are at their maximum operating capacity. As for the results of my procedures the first and second one were unsuccessful , I'll have to wait a couple days to see if this one will help.
