If you are struggling with the difficult decision of moving a parent into assisted living or memory…read morecare, I cannot recommend Belmont Village San Jose enough. My brother and I were terrified that moving our mom from a different facility would worsen her dementia, but the exact opposite happened. From our very first interaction, Shelia was incredibly helpful with the initial tour, answering all our questions and easing our minds. Once Mom moved in, the care was seamless. Allyson (Memory Program Director) and Gilda (Director of Resident Care Services) are absolutely incredible. From day one, they made a genuine effort to learn everything about our mom's history and specific needs to help her settle in. The transformation has been unbelievable. Our mom was not willing to leave her room at another facility, but now she has genuine friends, eats in the dining room for all meals, and stays active. She loves her trips to the on-site salon, watching TV with her new friends, and going on outings like scenic drives and picnics in the Rose Garden. The nurses and PAL caregivers (Personal Assistants for Living) clearly have specialized training and truly know how to work with people with dementia. Every time I visit, the PALS always update me with heartwarming stories of what my mom has been doing. Not only has this move been life-changing for our mom, but it has brought a sense of calm to my brother and me. Knowing our mom is surrounded by such great care and love when we aren't there is priceless. Allyson is wonderful about keeping in touch--she even texts photos of our mom enjoying herself, which means the world to us. Communication at BVSJ is excellent, and they even offer family support groups led by the amazing Tami Anastasia, an Alzheimer's and dementia consultant. We've learned that not all assisted living and memory care facilities are the same--the heart and dedication of the staff at Belmont Village San Jose make all the difference.

When my parents first moved into an assisted living facility, my mother had recently started using…read morea wheelchair because of an accident, and my father was walking with a cane. As the year continued, they both began to need more care with their ADLs. My mom continued to be in the wheelchair (too afraid to walk on her own); my father started using a walker. The more they became dependent on caregivers, the more they were not happy with response times and assistance from staff from that facility. The apartment was not kept as clean as they wanted. My parents were left to themselves quite often. One time they said that "staff is great to families and visitors; but not to the residents." They felt as though no one listened to them, and the activities did not interest them. Then they moved to Belmont Village San Jose. What a difference! The facility is bright and clean! The facility is secure - everyone signs in and out. Parking is under the building. Staff was attentive to their needs. The meals were good. They were constantly supervised and supported without feeling as though they were being watched. My parents joined The Circle of Friends, which put them with other residents for structured activities throughout the day. Staff response times were better here than at the other facility. My mother, who was very quiet at the other facility, became more animated, made friends, and was not lonely. She looked happier. The one negativity for her was that she could not go outside on her own and walk around Santana Row. And there aren't enough caregivers to take residents outside all the time. My father, though, never quite adjusted to Belmont Village. I don't think it was Belmont Village itself; I think he never adjusted to living in assisted living and to accepting help from others. But he was constantly in pain and transferred from hospital to skilled nursing for months. Ultimately, he was put on hospice, and was able return to Belmont Village to be with my mom. He was able to see that his wife was being taken care of before he passed away in his sleep a few weeks later. My mother also became ill shortly after - and spent time in the hospital and in skilled nursing before returning to Belmont Village, this time in memory care. She passed away in her sleep a few weeks later. Communication between admin/staff and my family at Belmont Village was very good. Any change of condition was reported to us. Any questions we had - someone was there to answer the phone day or night. If we had a problem, it was fairly easy to set up a meeting with admin to discuss the issue. The staff said 'hello' to us whenever we visited the facility - and tried to get to know the relationships between all of us (children, grandchildren, siblings).

My father has now lived at The Watermark for one year. During that time, the experience has been…read moreinconsistent--at times acceptable, and at other times deeply concerning. The cost of care is extremely high, and additional fees are added for things that should be basic. If a resident exceeds a certain number of medications, there is an extra charge simply to administer them--despite these being small, routine pills. If staff are asked to ensure a resident showers, that also results in additional charges. Housekeeping is supposed to be included, yet there have been multiple occasions when my father's bedding was not washed, leaving him sleeping in what I would consider unsanitary conditions. In addition, there are many times when I visit and the fronts of the cabinets are covered in greasy fingerprints, as if they have not been cleaned or wiped down in months. After his first year, his rent increased by over $300 per month. The increase is for no other reason than to get more money. Just because you can raise the rent doesn't mean that you should. He hasn't been given more care, he hasn't utilized any of the facilities on the grounds. In fact he sits in his room and just watches television all day. The food hasn't gotten better or worse, he hasn't gotten more care or less. So again a rental increase is not necessary. Compounding this issue, prior leadership sent me the rent increase letter that failed to include the discount he receives, making it appear as though the increase was nearly $1,500. This caused unnecessary alarm and confusion and further eroded trust. There have also been numerous occasions when I have specifically asked staff to please not allow my father to simply sit alone in his room in front of the television all day. Despite these requests, I have not seen any meaningful effort to engage him in the community or encourage participation in activities. This lack of social engagement is particularly concerning and directly impacts his quality of life specifically since he has dementia and Alzheimer's, social interaction is extremely important to help the disease progress less aggressively. Many of these issues stemmed from prior leadership, which I understand is no longer in place. I believe I can personally attest to at least one reason for the high staff turnover. On one occasion, I called and asked to speak with a specific leader. I was placed on hold, and when the receptionist returned, she said she was transferring me. When this leader picked up the phone, she answered with a curt and rude "what," as though she believed she was speaking to the receptionist rather than a family member. Speaking to staff--or anyone--in that manner is completely unacceptable. When I clarified who I was and why I was calling, her tone barely improved. The interaction was unprofessional and left a lasting impression. While the care staff themselves appear to want to do a good job, there have been serious lapses. One example was when my father complained of what was dismissed as a sunburn, when in reality he had a severe case of hives. He later ended up in the emergency room while traveling. When we returned from that trip, we found his bathroom had flooded. Rather than immediately sending someone to clean and sanitize his apartment, staff was told to offer to him in a model room for the night. This was an unacceptable solution. He had just returned from vacation here he was ill the entire time and wanted to rest in his own apartment--not be displaced. We were also informed that there was no maintenance staff on site at night, which is deeply concerning in a facility of this nature. It took an excessive amount of time for someone to come up and mop the floor, and even then, the area was not sanitized--only mopped--despite the fact that it involved toilet water. I have read many reviews stating that appearances can be deceiving, and unfortunately, that can be true. It is a beautiful new building. There has been significant staff turnover, which I believe was directly related to certain members of leadership who are no longer there. Overall, I am cautiously hopeful that with the leadership changes that have been made, things will improve. However, given the level of cost and the expectations that come with it, meaningful and consistent improvement is not optional--it is required.

It was incredibly difficult to tell my dad that I could no longer manage his growing caregiving needs, but Merife and Michelle made the transition easier by assisting me when I shared the news at his home, where he had lived for 60 years. Our first lunch at Villa Fontana was nothing short of serendipitous--my dad was reunited with a former co-worker he hadn't seen in decades! The meal was so delicious that he kept saying "oishi" (Japanese for "delicious"). It truly felt like a home-cooked meal, starting with a cream of potato soup, followed by a bountiful salad with hardboiled eggs, olives, and more. The main course featured chicken parmesan, spaghetti, perfectly prepared vegetables, and a berry pie à la mode for dessert. My dad's room is bright and cheerful, overlooking a gorgeous courtyard. It was recently remodeled with new carpet and granite countertops, making it feel fresh and inviting. To help ease his transition, Merife arranged 24/7 caregiving services from Harmony for the first three days--an unexpected but deeply appreciated gesture. Each caregiver was kind, attentive, and communicative with me, which made all the difference. Just 3 days after moving in, my dad had a small accident during the night, falling on the bathroom floor. Thankfully, he wasn't harmed, and the staff immediately provided me with pictures to reassure me that he was okay. Their attentiveness and quick response gave me so much peace of mind. Perhaps the biggest change has been in my dad's daily routine. Before moving in, he spent his days watching TV from morning until night. Now, he participates in group morning exercises, and when I asked what he liked the most about Villa Fontana, he replied, Bingo! He also loves that he can enjoy ice cream every day--a small but meaningful joy. The entire staff at Villa Fontana has been incredibly friendly and kind. In addition to Merife and Michelle, I want to give a special shoutout to Jefferson, who always greets me at the front desk with a smile, as well as Allyssa, Maryann (the activity director), Maryann (the med tech), Manny, Marycris, and Roselily. I know I'm still learning everyone's names, so my apologies if I've left anyone out! Villa Fontana has truly exceeded my expectations, and I'm so grateful my dad is in such a caring and supportive environment. If you're looking for an assisted living facility where your loved one will feel at home, I highly recommend Villa Fontana.

My mothers health has been slowly deteriorating and her in home helper was no longer enough. She needed 24 hour care but did not want to be in 'hospital' setting. All About Seniors unique model of providing 24 hours care in a home, in a residential neighborhood, was exactly what we wanted but didn't even know existed. I received their information from a friend of a friend who had used their facilities for her mother. They came highly recommended and did not disappoint. My mother was there for about 20 months, August of 2022 through March of 2024, and she received excellent care the entire time. There was consistency with the on site staff and they were very nurturing and made us feel comfortable about our mothers care. Thank you, Kendall and the entire staff at All About Seniors.

So her time there was short. The house is in an excellent location for stores, freeways and expressways. At the same time it's tucked into a nice residential area. Given our loved one's fragile condition and increased episodes with various maladies her hospice nurse recommended a smaller residential setting. Hence we moved her into AAS which is a board & care home. There are 2 caregivers around the clock and a 3rd one who comes in at least 3 times a week. This was my first experience with this kind of facility. It was cozy and home like. I was very impressed with the caregivers They were attentive, caring and at the same time highly organized. The place was clean.. The executive director Kendall Hall was always available to talk and was on the ball with big and little things alike. He always kept abreast with Covid19 rules and regulations which included the ongoing changes. He provided us with detailed current information at each and every turn and did so in writing. He maintained regular and professional communication with the hospice nurses and my loved ones primary physician who was not a direct member of the hospice team.. This required yet another component of communication on his part. He arranged for the residents and caregivers to be provided the vaccine in a timely and convenient fashion. Everyone had completed the process by Feb. 11th. My loved one experienced heart failure on a Saturday and passed away 3 days later. Once again Kendall Hall was there before she died and afterwards when he learned she had passed. In fact he stayed with me and my deceased loved one until the cremation staff person came to pick her up. He comforted me with kind words of encouragement. He even helped me carry things to my car. Kendall always did his best to please and keep us at ease. That combined with the caregivers gave me confidence that my loved one was in a safe place, and in the best place for her final stage of life. My loved ones favorite meal at All About Seniors was breakfast . She boasted it was always excellent.
