They were punctual and flexible in terms of number of hours needed, but the best was the obvious, loving care with which they treated Mother. Isabel even found for us a live-in caregiver which we evaluated. Isabel gave us daily reports which we found invaluable in tracking the needs and the progress in meeting those needs- and she also gave really good suggestions to the various issues that would arise (which we gladly followed).

This agency was by far the best in quality of care, consistency, commitment, and flexibility in meeting mom's changing needs. They also happen to be the least expensive! Initially, mom needed caregivers just in the morning, Later it was morning and evening. When mom was striving for independence, they supported her by going on her walks with her, taking her to appointment, and fixing some meals. When mom was confused or ill, they notified us quickly and were patient and soothing to our mother. When mom required hospice services and needed round the clock care, the office got us help the same day! Her primary caregiver was with her for years and she supported the orientation of staff new to mom. Mom was safe, happy, loved, and respected until her last breath. The caregivers were flexible in supporting mom's children. With many children are many personalities and with each of us they remained professional and comforting. I cannot say enough good about this agency!

The overall experience was very smooth--from meeting the care coordinator Natalie and signing the forms to making final arrangements by text. Everyone here was warm and helpful. A special shoutout to my caregiver, Candy, who was lively and fun. After I got home, I slept for a couple of hours, and when I woke up we chatted--the conversation helped me stay alert and shake off the grogginess from the anesthesia. Being Chinese, Candy understood my needs at home, and that cultural awareness was especially comforting while recovering on my own. Hopefully I won't need surgery again--but if I do, I'll be calling California Seniors Care!

And so I started to look around to see what was available in terms of In-Home Care and Assisted Living. I ultimately chose In-Home Care versus Assisted living simply because of the fact I can receive the same services I am requesting in the comfort of my own home. And still be surrounded by familiar sights, be able to sit on my own couch, take a stroll in my yard, and go on a nice long walk with my Dog (Zoey) while being accompanied by my Caregiver. After researching several In-Home Care agencies, I selected Nurse Next Door as the perfect fit. Soon after I made the initial phone call to them, someone reached out and was able to quickly set up a date and time to when we could meet. Rashi, a care specialist from their team came over and we sat out in my backyard. After chatting for a few minutes, there was an instant click with the both of us and I knew right away I had found what I was looking for. She went over who and what Nurse Next Door is in the most detailed way possible, and learning more about myself and my needs to put together a wonderful Care Plan that would fit those needs in the best way possible. Nurse Next Door believes in the Perfect Match. That same day and after talking for some time, Rashi already had Caregiver in mind that she thought would fit right in with me. Joanne, a caregiver, who is a wonderful and caring young lady came on the first day when services were scheduled. And since that time Joanne and I have developed a close relationship, learning about each other and doing a variety of enjoyable things together. Some examples are, grocery shopping at Trader Joe's, going to Doctor's appointments, taking long dog walks, light housekeeping (vacuuming), and having endless fun conversations. My life partner and I enjoyed all types of music, and after he passed everything was left all scattered. Joanne was able to help me collect and organize all of the various CD's by music type. She also was so kind to help me find and take me to an electronics repair shop that would fix my 200+ CD Changer. Once the CD changer was back to life, she then made me a hand written list of all of my favorite CD's that were put into the CD Changer, that consisted of more that 200 artists. Now it brings me to happy tears that I am able to listen to all these songs that were tied to happy times with my life partner and remember all the good times and also share them with Joanne. Nurse Next Door is 24/7, and it was wonderful to know I can always reach them for anything. After being provided services from Nurse Next Door for a whole year and getting to know the whole team personally, I highly recommend them. Especially if you are looking for In-Home Care that is available 24/7, quick to respond, caring to your needs, and looking to gain a new friend.

My 75-year-old mother underwent necessary brain surgery three weeks ago. Three days before surgery, she had a ground-level fall, tore her rotator cuff, and sustained a small fracture. Because the surgery could not be deferred, she proceeded as planned but required significant care at home afterward. She had been fully independent, and although she lives with my father, the caregiving needs were beyond his comfort level. I was able to help for a few days after her discharge, but it was clear they would need additional support for her to remain safely at home. The hospital nurses were wonderful, but my mom needed assistance even with basic tasks like repositioning in bed and using the restroom, as her left arm was immobilized. Our hospital care coordinator connected us with Amy, the client care manager for Family Matters, who met us at home right away. She performed a thorough evaluation and took the time to understand my parents' needs and preferences. Almost immediately, we were connected with KJ, the Director of Operations, who coordinated the caregiving schedule. She ensured an excellent match with caregivers and that coverage was consistent and reliable. Communication was seamless--KJ was always responsive and proactive with updates, and we never felt out of touch. My mom especially wanted to recognize her primary daytime caregiver, Maria. Maria was attentive, warm, and incredibly experienced, with over 20 years in caregiving. She is also an excellent cook and was especially skilled in helping my mom with more vulnerable tasks like showering. The other caregivers who supported nights and weekends were also wonderful. The team clearly put thought and care into matching personalities and backgrounds, which made a meaningful difference. Over the following weeks, my mom gradually regained her independence, and we were able to scale back care smoothly. The team made adjustments easy and seamless. We would absolutely use Family Matters again. This was our first experience with a caregiving service, and we were initially apprehensive, but they made the entire process easy, supportive, and reassuring. We would use them again in a heartbeat.

Even more challenging is finding caregivers you can truly trust during such a vulnerable stage of life. A very special thank you to Family Matters, and my father's caregiver, Sade. He is under hospice care with advanced dementia, and can barely speak. Sade is consistently patient, and kind, and gives me complete peace of mind whenever she's caring for him. Most importantly, she engages with him and makes him feel seen. This is in sharp contrast to other caregivers we've experienced who are often on their phones and treat him as if he's invisible. I'm also especially grateful for KJ who manages the caregivers and scheduling. While other agencies haven't taken the time to meet my father or me in person, KJ made it a priority to get hands-on training to fully understand my father's caregiving needs. Because of this, she's been able to step in to provide training and support which is a huge godsend given my limited bandwidth. She even proactively revised the caregiving shift note template to make it clearer and more helpful for our caregiving team. Family Matters has truly exceeded our expectations because they understand the real meaning of caregiving. On top of that, their participation in the Veterans Assistance Program, which requires stricter qualifications provides an added layer of confidence and experience.

I had a deductible and a monthly fee since it's a rental. The physical therapist or occupational therapist told us that someone from Apria would reach out to me for home delivery. I checked the website from my phone and also saw the same thing - you need to verify the patient's first and last name as well as DOB. Anyway, I was antsy and called yesterday. Call early because I was on hold for nearly 15 minutes. The lady on the phone was very nice as well; explained my deductible and monthly fee, and that if I were to go, go before or after their lunch hour. I came about 3 minutes before noon. Thankfully I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. The gentleman showed me how to use the leg thingies and assemble / fold up. Gavin broke his leg in 2 places Sunday and had major surgery Monday (over 6 hours). It'll be a long road of recovery for him, but I'm thankful he's alive and ok. Just no football for at least 2 years, if ever. He should be able to walk normally in 8 months to a year, his orthopedic surgeon says.
