My Primary Dentist, Manuel Cambeiro, referred me to Dr. Maltsen but trying to get an appointment with him you have to wait about a month. Ended up seeing Dr. Kim. I was not disappointed with his care. Only problem that I had with this office was the fee for a CVT Scan of $250 , which I later found out from a friend, that works in the dental industry ,that its not needed unless you having an implant (which was not my case - Since I was going for a root canal) Apex locator was more appropriate for this type of treatment. Also- the root canal took two (2) days not sure why? I wish it was completed in one session. Last month I noticed a "bubble" on my gum. Since it wouldn't go away, I scheduled an appointment with my dentist. I was immediately told that I had an infection and must immediately go to a specialist. Dr. Malten' s referral was thrust in my hand with instructions to not delay in scheduling an appointment. When I called, I requested Dr. Maltens because that's whi my dentist recommended. I was advised of the cost $750 without the crown being cracked/ $1150 if the crown was cracked. Payments could be split between the two visits or paid at once. The transparency about cost upfront was appreciated. The town of Nutley is known for not being BIPOC-friendly so I was a little bit concerned about having anything done given the current status of our country. I was able to get an appointment within a week. The night before I grew increasingly anxious. Thoughts of the pain from my previous root canal on the tooth four years prior caused me to jump from my bed to read reviews about this place. There were glowing reviews however all of the persons in the video were Caucasian and appeared to be more seasoned in age. They kept saying it was a painless experience which eased my anxiety and allowed me to return to sleep. Upon arrival into the office, it was spacious, clean and Lite FM was playing in the background. All of the female Assistants were kind and friendly. When I arrived in the room, I was advised Dr. Kim would be performing the root canal. I advised the Assistant that I requested Dr. Maltens. She exits and approximately 10min later returns with the receptionist who states: "We listened to the recording and you were advised that Dr. Kim would be performing the procedure. Now if you want Dr. Maltens, then we will need to reschedule." I was mortified. It was a simple misunderstanding on my part because I was nervous. I was now embarrassed. I had never had a office review the tape... Unwilling to delay the inevitable, I stayed. The procedure took almost two hours both times. Apparently time is a factor they pride themselves on because Dr. Kim asked the Assistant boy times how long it took. During both procedures, I had to use the restroom multiple times, I was nervous. It's an uncomfortable procedure particularly when it's the last tooth in the back of your mouth. I had to constantly ask for suction and when asked if I was okay, it seemed more out of routine then genuine concern. Furthermore while doing the procedures he found something in my tooth and passed the comment to the Assistant: "Wow I haven't seen this in a long time. I'm going to keep it for a souvenir. " At the end of day one's procedure, Dr. Kim advised that he did NOT have to break the crown. He gave me two prescriptions - Ibuprofen and Amoxicillin. He told me that I didn't have to take all of the Amoxicillin, which was strange to me. In all of the times I've been prescribed it, I was advised to finish it. When exiting the office, I could hear the receptionist having a conversation with someone who I later noticed was Dr. Maltens. It was quite offputting to me that he immediately looked at his laptop and didn't even acknowledge my presence. Wouldn't general common courtesy, especially if it's your practice, be a part if customer service? The receptionist asked, "How was it?" My response, " I'm not sure what answer you're looking for - It was a root canal." I paid my bill, was advisee of my next appointment and left. At the end of day two, I was informed that I needed to go back to my dentist for a crown or filling because he had to break the crown. I just stared at him. Pissed. I was told by the receptionist that my Xrays would be sent back to my dentist for follow up by email. When I called my dentist a couple days later, they had not received the xrays. Called back to Nutley Endodontics and was told they were mailed. I requested that be emailed and was told I would have to call and get the email address of my dentist and provide it to them. Really???? When my xrays finally arrive at my dentist's office I'm told that because my root canal was within the 5 year limit, I mat not be approved for a crown. Pissed. So I'm left at the mercy of insurance because Dr. Kim cracked my crown. While the office may be clean and the Assistants nice, the acid rock playing on day two made clear, this isn't a place for me. read more

Do not under any circumstance go to this dentist. Not only was the work average at best, they clock on charges that are not covered under insurance, were never recieved, and force you to pay it at the end of your service. Unprofessional office manager who has no personality or empathy. ​ read more

I am a fan!!!. I had a great experience with Dr. Justin Batz last month. Dr. Batz was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Normally I am extremely nervous about dentist visits, but Dr. Batz made me feel very comfortable, explained the entire process and overall just great. If there were zero stars I would put that. First of all they charge $200 for a consultation. Which being on Medicare is outrageous. The do not take insurance. You have to pay out of pocket. Also - When I made the appointment they DID NOT tell me I had to sit in the car and wait for the doctor to be available. I went to the front door where a sign said CALL BEFORE ENTERING. Then I went into the hallway where there was the same sign. I called and told the receptionist that I was sitting in the hallway. She said to come in because there was only one person in the waiting room. I thought: this is ridiculous. I asked what was going on - I couldn't believe I was paying $200 for this. She sent the "office manager" to speak to me. She lectured me on covid saying it's back and it was for my safety, blah, blah blah. Bottom line - it took me forever to get there from where I live in traffic jams. This was only a consultation, I couldn't deal with having to go back there again. And what was really interesting was that, if they are so worried about covid why wasn't the office manager wearing a mask and why did they give me an iPad to type my information on. Weren't they worried about people touching things? This was a waste of my time. Lately doctors think that our time is not worth anything and they do not care how they treat people. Wow, wow, wow Dr. Maltsen and his amazing professional staff were great! I have put off this root canal for a long time because I was so nervous but Dr. Maltsen changed all that! I had the Gentle Wave Technology root canal and it was painless! I was literally falling asleep. This was less painful than a cavity! I'm not left speechless often but I can't say enough about this office! If your in need of a root canal this should be the only place you go! read more

I had a root canal today. Dr. Maltsen was great. I have had various root canals over the years, and if ever a root canal can be called great, this one was. They have state of the art equipment. This was probably needed as the roots on my tooth were growing in all different directions. Dr. Maltsen appeared to be very thorough and focused on getting it done properly. The staff was also very nice. Again (because it WAS a root canal), a very nice experience. Highly recommended! read more

Honestly, by far the best endodontics dentist ever. They staff treat you as a human, they don't try to take advantage of scheduling, wait times, insurance, payments. They're extremely friendly and informative and want to help you every single step of the way. I truly loved the friendly atmosphere and professionalism. As for the dental assistants and dentist, Dr. Batz is by far one the most compassionate dentists ever. Felt no pain during my root canal, made sure I was comfortable ALWAYS, and even informs his patients about the decisions he makes. Overall 100/100 can't get anything better than Nutley Endodontics! read more

A few days ago, I had to go back to Nutley Endodontics to see Dr. Maltsen for another root canal. Once again I was extremely happy with his services as an endodontist. As per my general dentist, nobody could have done a better job performing a root canal than Dr. Maltsen. I was very fortunate to find Dr. Maltsen last year and would recommend him to all of my friends and family! He is just a great doctor! The staff is very friendly and his office is very clean! 2 weeks ago I woke up in excruciating pain. My general dentist referred me to an endodontist in Englewood. I could not get an appointment for 1 week. I found Dr Maltsen by luck from the internet. His office staff told me to come in immediately even though they were heavily booked. Dr Maltsen was gentle, kind and considerate and got me out of pain. My root canal was painless. I came into the office crying and left smiling. It was my fortune that the first endodontist could not see me. I have never been treated so wonderfully by an office. I would recommend Dr Maltsen highly. I had no insurance and his staff kindly worked with me on payment plans that were affordable. Hands down the best endodontist or dentist I have ever visited. I hate dentist visits and went to Dr. Maltsen for a root canal. Not only did he put me completely at ease, he was amazingly precise with every action: he made sure I had just the right amount of anesthesia and worked flawlessly.
