I've recently been attending Nuttall's block of the month club, and have been thoroughly enjoying it! The classes are taught by Denise, who's pretty much a sewing celebrity in my eyes. :) This year's BOM choices are batik and Christmas themed. Denise is so patient in her teaching the entire roomful of quilters, ranging from beginner to advanced. She explains things well and I appreciate that she demonstrates the block assembly steps with a closeup camera on the projector screen. When I go in, most of the ladies and Logan are kind and personable. Sure, sometimes they're busy, and can't really talk, but they're helpful when they have the opportunity to engage. On a personal note, I think some of these negative reviews are unfair and kinda prejudiced.. Perhaps their own sour attitudes have been projected onto these ladies that spend their work days cutting lots of fabric and answering calls. They're not catty or mean, as portrayed in certain reviews. No offense, but it's not their fault that you don't know how to thread your inherited sewing machine. Look on YouTube or consult your manual. It's not their fault if you don't monitor your own machine's warranty. Read your paperwork. It shouldn't hurt your feelings if an employee tells you Nuttall's doesn't sell yarn. read more

I took in two of my Bernina machines for service. I had hit a pin with both of them and the timing mechanism was off. When I went to pick them up, I was told neither of them was repairable as they were both too old and parts were unavailable. I was then asked if I wanted to leave them there for disposal. I said absolutely not as something felt off. I took them to AAA Sew and Vac in Sandy for a second opinion. They had serviced my singer sewing Machine years ago, and I found them quite easy to work with. after careful examination, The service man at AAA Sew and Vac said absolutely the machines are repairable and that he has parts in stock. He found it rather surprising that the Bernina dealer did not have them in stock as they are readily available. In addition, I shared my story with him and he said I bet you they offered you about 500 bucks apiece to use towards the purchase of a new machine. He was surprised when I was not offered anything at all. I shared this experience with a group of quilters in Utah without mentioning the name of Nuttals, and their response was overwhelming. Apparently, I am not the only one trying to be swindled by this company. I'm deeply disappointed that this happened to me, but more concerned that it might happen to someone else who wasn't able to discern that something felt off. Arrogant and rude sales staff. They have no problem with incomplete maintenance and repairs. They respond angrily to questions and give incomplete answers. The staff have a favorite brand of machines and if yours isn't it, forget getting any help that you can trust because they simply do not care. read more

Employees seem unhappy and generally annoyed by customer needs. Rather than approaching customers they seem to evade the need to help them. They seem fearful. It makes me wonder if they need more training or employee incentives. This should be such a cheerful place and employees should have a contagious enthusiasm for creativity. read more

Great selection of novelty print fabric, but there are other stores that have better prices for the same brands. A lot of the store was $15/yard, and most of the fabric on sale required a minimum purchase of 1 yard or more. I'm sure I'll come back the next time I'm in Utah, my priority will probably be going to the store "Pine Lodge" (25% the size, but better prices and I loved all the fabric there). I took my machine in a few weeks ago to be fixed and cleaned. Nothing major. Picking it up was the easy part. Very nice all around. Dropping it off a few weeks ago was horrible. The woman who took it to be fixed was so condescending that I was bewildered, a little angry later, but hurt and humiliated at the moment. She wasn't sure if my machine could be fixed, if parts found for it as it was....ummmm...unique she kept saying. It's not that old. No, it's not a high end machine, but it does what I need it to do.I knew it could be cleaned. I knew the bobbin winder could be fixed. Did she really have to treat me like pond scum? Yeah...my machine was fixed without a hitch. I will take my business elsewhere. I don't pay to be bullied. read more

THIS IS ONLY FOR THE MURRAY LOCATION It saddens me when I have to write a review like this. This was my third time going into their store and I'm sad to say I won't be back. The first time I went in for fabric and thread. I walk in and start looking and pick out what I needed. I brought it up to the front and asked about the weight of the fabric. I was answered with an eye roll and a very condescending "You don't know? Then why are you buying it." I was so taken a back. But she answered my question so I moved on. People have bad days, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. The second time was over a week ago. My machine hasn't been working right so I brought it in for service. I drop it off and I asked "Oh do you guys have any yarn?" She looks at me and in the rudest voice says "No, we are a sewing store. We don't carry yarn." All righty then. She tells me that it will be ready in 5-6 days. As I'm leaving I see a quilt that is beautiful and they are selling the pattern.(Important note for my third visit). So a week has gone by and I haven't gotten a call or email so I called to check in. I had to call 4 times to finally get a hold of someone. I then proceed to ask very nicely that I was calling to check in to see the progress on my machine no pressure I know you're busy. She tells me to hang on I'm on hold for 10 minutes then she answers and says "OK what was your question again?" I told her again she looked at my information and said "When did you drop it off?" I said a week ago, and then says "Are you serious? We won't even look at it for another two weeks." I explained to her that on my receipt it says 5-6 days and that's what they told me when I dropped it off. She says "Well things change, I don't know what to tell you." I said thank you and hung up. I decide to pick up my machine and take it to someone else. I go in and see the quilt I liked earlier. They are selling the pattern so I take a picture to send to my grandmother to see if she wants to buy the pattern for us to do. The worker at the station in a very mocking voice says "Don't mind me, I'm just taking pictures of everything!" I look at her thoroughly peeved I tell her I'm here to pick up my machine and went up the the front to get my machine. I will say they have nice products, and a well stocked store. But their service is extremely lacking. If they would have been even slightly Pleasant or kind I would have been fine with it. I know with COVID19 workers are getting slammed but it's no excuse to be rude. I hate having to post a negative review but I hope that the company will see this and make some changes. read more

I have not had great experiences at this store. One was a beginner's sewing class that was frustrating because there was no rhyme or reason to anything the instructor said--no agenda, no materials, just her standing in front of the room and aimlessly talking. I left not having learned anything other than her personal opinions on threads or different brands, but she did not even teach us how to thread our machines...? Another time I went to get fabric for a sewing class and the worker was just really rude. She had a condescending tone and acted like I was stupid when I asked basic questions. I found this place cuz I was looking for a Bernina dealer. I called ahead to inquire about the model of sewing machine I was interested in. I was told they had the model I wanted and I was directed to ask for Shelee when I came in. Shellee was fantastic!! I appreciate her attention to my questions and add a discount that I didn't know they were offering. I couldn't be happier with my visit and will definitely return (tho they are about 15 miles from my home) for sewing needs. read more

I bought a nice sewing machine there. When I purchased it, I thought the sales person said I had 2 years of free PM service. I would be emailed as a reminder. The sales person did a good job of up-selling me on a better machine. I even took a class after purchase. I never got any notification of the 'birthday' of my sale and brought the machine in to get checked. I was told since it did not happen on or before the 'birthday' the offer was void. I asked the lady why they had not sent a reminder out. With a curt smile, she said they have been known not to send reminders out - 'oh well.' I do not understand why no reminder was sent out, and the attitude of the person was pretty poor. They lost a client - not honoring their word about a simple PM checkup. Very disappointed. read more

I am so happy that I found this place! It is so much better than any of the other fabric stores in SLC. First of all, they sell Berninas (including used refurbished Berninas)... so you know they have to be good. Second, they are staffed by a ton of great ladies that know sewing, know their way around machines, and are a wonderful help to the novice! Finally, they have a wonderful supply of fabric and it is well organized. I found some great Halloween themed and Science themed fabrics. Love it! They also offer sewing classes... which I will certainly take advantage of. In sum, highly recommended for service, fabric, sewing machines, and education. This is a hidden gem in SLC. read more

weird things in there. that's what i'll say. lots of things too so it can be hard to find what your looking for. the ladies who work there are the absolute sweetest but they don't know what they are talking about half the time and are super slow. the place to go if you need sewing stuff. with all they have in there i bet they'll have whatever you need. customer service was great. they were willing and pleasant and the place was clean. needs a little bit of an upbeat spirit or something in there though. overall great. read more

Three times into this place: once when it was in Ivy Place, once when it first opened at the new location and once yesterday looking for fabric. There won't be a fourth time. Each time I have been met with condescending, curt employees that act like you are putting them out the second you walk in the door. Makes me miss The Cotton Shop that much more. Asked where there solid quilting fabric was located and she said over there. But the tone was like she was annoyed. Asked someone else to help to no avail. I guess if you aren't spending thousands on a new machine they have do not want you in the store...even if you already bought a machine from them. It was a pleasure to shop at Nuttall's Sewing. I was looking for a new sewing machine. Not only do they have them on display, they will come show you how it works and let you test it out. They seem to really know their stuff. They were honest and told me both the good and the bad of the machines. So well, I walked out with a much more expensive machine than I had intended and I am so excited to get started using it. As I was walking out the lady that helped me called me over and said, your receipt doesn't look right. I had paid and she could have just let me walk out, but she stopped me. Checked the receipt and reprocessed my transaction with the lower amount. With the purchase of a machine you get free classes also. I was impressed by their fabric and notions selections also. We decided to invest in a Bernina after learning on one in our community ed class at East High. We went down to Nuttall's and we were helped by Lisa, she was fantastic. She sat down with us and showed us all the features for 30 min. We brought our 1 year old and she was friendly and kind to our child, gave her toys and didn't mind her fussiness. She was patient with us and didn't mind explaining things to beginners in a simple helpful manner. She gave us an expired discount on the machine and let us know about the upcoming free classes. I feel totally comfortable calling her up if I have questions. Exactly the service you would expect for an investment like this one. We had previously shopped for a machine at different stores and this one by far exceeded expectations. read more

I would have like to have met the people the other reviewers met. My experience with Nuttall's Riverton and Ivy Place were totally opposite. Riverton employee wasn't interested in selling me a long arm quilter and because of time restraints and family pressure I was sent to Ivy Place to see Denise. I saw Denise and she rapidly sold me a long arm quilter with many promises that I have been unable to get them to fulfill. Note to self....always get verbal promises in writing like one on one instruction...etc. I was understanding about the Fair being in full swing and would have to wait for delivery, but 7 weeks? They come set it up and leave with just a booklet of instruction that comes with the machine. Here I have this wonderful quilter and no idea how to get started. I call Denise and am told that because of the holiday they are not having any classes until after the new year (this is the beginning of November) I asked about my one on one training promised and am told they dont offer that. I of course told her that at point of sale, this was promised which she denied. I hung up and was disappointed. After the first of the year, I inquired about classes and none were being offered. I called and spoke with Denise again and asked if I met with her could she answer some questions I had about the machine. She picked the date and time. I showed up at appointed time and she wasn't there yet. I waited a half hr and she showed. Rushed through my questions like she didn't have the time to spend with me. Denise gave me her website address and told me to watch that. I left the store after ordering missing parts on my machine in January and have yet to get those parts. (I have called several times to check on the status with no luck on delivery status) OH and by the way....talking with Eric, the manager, did no good. Still waiting on promises he made and don't see those coming true anytime soon. For the thousands of dollars my father and I spent in that store I would think service would be the most important. Not at Nuttall's. Contacted Grace company and they indicated that they have had complaints too about Nuttall's and had no plans to offer any services. Thanks to YouTube, I can find what I need. If I knew that's the route I was going to have to take to learn my machine, I would have bought it on amazon cheaper and been less frustrated. Delete Yelp from your wife's phone before she finds Nuttall's or you will need to build an addition to your home for your wife's ever expanding material stash! I have used this store off and on for many years. I puchased a bernina from them many years ago. They are great if you buy your machine from them, they include classes that you can take to learn how to use the machine. If you don't purchase the machine from them, they make it extremely expensive to take classes. They charge almost $500.00 to take 3 education classes if you puchased your machine elsewhere. They don't seem to want anyone who hasn't purchased from them in there. So disappointing. read more

I have been into a lot of fabric shops and this one beats them ALL! The fabric selection is incredible. They have a great selection of apparel fabrics and their new knits are to die for! The staff is super friendly and always very helpful. I bought my Bernina from the Ivy Place store and it was a great experience. Jennifer was a pleasure to work with and made sure I was getting the right machine for me. She helped me through the process of deciding just want it was that I wanted and then got me the best price on my new machine. She even took my crappy old Kenmore (that was almost going to get thrown out the window) and gave me a great trade in offer for it. I was shocked! I've started my classes to learn how to use my new machine and the teachers and knowledge they have is wonderful. I plan to take some FUN quilting classes as soon as I master my machine. If you need a great machine, a great selection of fabric or just a great customer service experience you should make this store your FIRST stop! read more

I wouldn't trust Nuttall's. I bought a sewing machine cabinet from them with an electric lift. When I came back to pick it up from the lay-a-way program Nuttal's had switched it to one with out a lift. When I protested they refused to refund the money. Nuttal's said to read the fine print. Today I brought my inexpensive sewing machine in and a few of the ladies took it right off the counter and started working on it right away. About 30 mins later Joni had it running good as new and they didn't even charge me! I was asking Joni about other machines (just in case mine was a goner) and I told her what I used it for and she showed me some super reasonably price machines and didn't try to upsell me! Went to Nuttall's new Murray store grand opening 10-22-19. What a fiasco and a joke!!! Entered to win sewing machine where entry form clearly stated ONE PER CUSTOMER, two if instructor. Winner, "Judy," announced as winner of machine, with name drawn two additional times, for a total of about eight give-away items. "Pearl," she won twice! What happened to ONE ENTRY PER CUSTOMER? RIGGED CONTEST! Also, prices through the roof! What was once "on sale" now appeared at newly inflated prices (fabric), with yellow, green, pink stickers where employees clearly attempted removing, with new labels slapped over them. I guess they need to pay for all that space in their new location. Guess I have no reason to return. My friend who came with me was absolutely appalled! As a popular hairdresser at a posh location, she is guaranteed to pass her opinion of "DO NOT SHOP AT NUTTALL'S" along. For me, as a university staff member, I share the same sentiment! read more

I initially came in because I thought my relatively new machine was broken. It just needed a bit of oil and dusting coupled with user error. Then I discovered they offered beginning sewing classes for a very reasonable price plus the cost of supplies (very minimal). TAKE THE CLASS. I was so frustrated just trying to hem my husband's pants and it turned out I was using the wrong needle. I had never known before I needed to use different needles. The class gave me so much more confidence to tackle a variety of projects. We made pillow cases with French seams, a table runner, and pajama pants. I'm really hoping to sign up for a quilting class soon. The classes can seem kind of daunting as they are 3 hours, 4 saturdays in a row, but you will use the time. People of all ages, with all kinds of machines are in there. Some were in there with machines that were probably 30 years old, others were in there with machines that were under a year old. read more

Do NOT take your Pfaff to be serviced by these people! I brought my 2144/2170 to be checked over for a buttonhole problem. When I went to pick up the machine I was told the problem was solved. This was where my issue with this store began. I asked the salesgirl if I could hook my machine up to verify for myself, and I was told NO. I explained that maybe I had been doing things incorrectly (I'm a costumer and I've done a few buttonholes in my time); after all, maybe I had done something wrong. If I had been doing things incorrectly I was in the store and the service guy could show me what I was doing wrong. Again I was denied. As this was going on, the service guy walked right by us and the girl had the gall to say the guy was not in! Needless to say the buttonhole problem has not been fixed. These people also kept telling me how Pfaff is in trouble and this was not the first time this same issue was addressed by them. Now WHY would I buy from these people?! I am interested in a Bernina, and I REFUSE to buy from this store. Unfortunately they appear to be the only distributor in Utah at this time. If I have to order my machine online or go out of state, I will. read more

Nuttals has great customer service until you stop spending money in their store. Even with a machine still under warrantee they were very rude and kept my machine for nearly 3 weeks. I had a friend who has spent $1000's of $'s there and they repaired her machine for the same problem in 2 days. My advice--find another store to purchase from. read more
