Nyack Shell Convenience Store, Emigrant Gap

More than a Shell gas station, this is also a convenience store and a gift shop. I stopped in for my second cup of coffee and sort of hoped that the power outlet next to the post office was live. It was not. This is getting pretty high up into the Sierra Nevada mountains, some 5200 feet. You'll notice that you're maybe just a little bit out of breath from any exertion. But it's entirely passable and has been since covered wagons passed through here in the 1840s on the way to find gold in California. The young lady who rang up my sale was pleasant and while I would have loved one of those breakfast sandwiches, it's all carbs. [Review 17667 overall - 458 in California - 1188 of 2022.]

This is an excellent spot to stop for gas and stuff. Great selection of snacks, drinks, basic snow needs etc. and basic automotive needs such as windshield solution. Great prices they don't gauge you. All the employees are really nice and helpful. The bathrooms were clean. We usually stop at the exit with subway but this is now our favorite spot.

Bathroom smells really bad and not clean. Went to purchase some items. The cashier didn't offer me a bag. After I paid I asked for a bag, she bagged my items and said it will be 10 cents. Unfortunately I didn't have 10 cents on me, she said you can pay with your card. Are you kidding me? I spent $20 didn't get a receipt and $150 in gas! What is this world coming to? I went to my car to get her 10 cents, as I was walking back into the store she was watching me from the window! Handed her the 10 cents.

We stopped here to get gas driving back home from Reno. The store inside is super cute I love the decor and they also have so many things that you could grab for snacks on the road. They have hot chocolates. They even have an option for an abuelita hot chocolate, the Mexican chocolate. Anything you can think of for snacks, frozen sandwiches Icee drinks and lots of sodas to choose from ! Very big soda machine .They have clean restrooms, which is a must when traveling. On the side of the road where the gas station is they had an area where they had kids playing in the snow I seen that it says $25 for parking to play on the snow. I didn't even know they did that. I may have to bring my kids to play in the snow here! In the store they also sell a lot of things for the snow !! Which is pretty convenient if last minute, you see the snow and decide to just to just hang out for a minute you could just buy anything you need for the snow at this store! Overall, super fun store to look at things to buy like souvenirs, snacks, and to use a clean restroom.

This store shares the restroom with Burger King. This store sells a lot of Souvenirs And Gifts from the local area, too bad all the souvenirs were made in China.

Cool little gas station store. This is a place you can look forward to stopping at for needed fuel during a long car ride. Bathrooms were also nice and clean. Down side is men's bathroom is a one person only but at least us girls had the privilege of a 4 stall bathroom . Staff was friendly and helpful. Don't expect cheap prices though. It's a gas station after all and doesn't necessarily get loaded with customers year round.

Filling up here didn't get me far, I spent $21.00 here. I filled up a quarter of a tank more and I used it all up before I got to Auburn.

It's owned by the Wells family who also own the Nyack Shell. Why do I know so much? Last week, I was stranded there for over six hours waiting for a tow from AAA when my car broke down. (As an aside, AAA didn't come for 11 hours-- thanks for nothing). It was quite cold in my car, so I took frequent breaks inside the store. This is what I learned: *Donner Gas has a core group of people who are very nice and care about their jobs. They keep a very clean and well organized shop. *Bathrooms are accessed from the outside, and unlocked. You don't have to fuss with a pesky key. *The store has a variety of healthy food. Interspersed with the typical junk food are cheese sticks, raw nuts, cereal, bananas, and a selection of fresh salads and sandwiches. They also have some frozen meals (eg: burritos) and a handy microwave for defrosting your lunch. In other words, you can eat well if you want to! *Store also sells a variety of household and automotive items-- wine openers, motor oil, Tahoe souvenirs. *There is a large heater in the back that you can stand next to and warm up. Mostly, the staff were very welcoming and accepting of me and my teenage son. I appreciate that they let me hang around their store for so long! The store is also called "Sugar Bowl gas" for reasons I don't quite understand. Hope you get to drop by, but not because you have been stranded for hours.

Lame. No way, they put out of order signs on both their bathrooms on July 4th weekend?! Boo.read more

My move from Oakland to Reno turned into an incredibly long and exhausting day. An unexpected vehicle problem delayed my departure, and by the time I reached Colfax, it was already evening. During the chaos of the move, I had even misplaced my prescription glasses, making night driving through unfamiliar mountain roads even more difficult. After a half day on the road, I knew continuing would not have been the safest decision. After finding that nearby businesses had already closed for the night, I came to this Chevron looking for a safe place to stop. Although overnight parking is generally not allowed for moving trucks, the older gentleman working that night listened to my situation with kindness and understanding and allowed me to stay for the night. This happened late in the evening on May 1, 2026. I unfortunately didn't catch his name, but I sincerely hope the management recognizes him for his professionalism and compassion. Sometimes the safest decision is knowing when to stop driving. His kindness didn't just help a tired customer--it helped an exhausted driver avoid unnecessary risks on dark mountain roads. This experience reminded me of another Chevron station that helped me during a previous move. Twice now, Chevron employees have shown me genuine care when I needed it most. Small acts of kindness like this make our roads safer for everyone. Thank you to the entire team at Colfax Chevron. I will always remember your kindness. Highly recommended.

Great little gas station and mini mart…read more We were on our way to Hell Hole Reservoir. Stopped here to use the bathroom because I'm particular about where I pee. I'm not one to just pull over to the side of the road and pee in the bushes. I don't like to pee outside. I don't even pee in the ocean. I'm particular where I pee. This place is way up in the mountains, and as it turned out, exactly where you need a bathroom to be if you had multiple cups of coffee before you left Sacramento, as I had done. So happy to discover this gas station does have a public restroom. It's in a small building separate from the mini mart. It was clean and tidy, qualities we all appreciate in a public restroom. After taking care of business and washing my hands I popped into the Mini Mart to spend some money. I didn't actually need anything, I had snacks in the car. But when I stop at a little mom and pop operation like this I always try to spend some cash. I want this place to still be in business next time I'm passing through. The Mini Mart has mad snacks! Including many of my favorites, like Chili Cheese Fritos, Chicharrones, Trail Mix, Chex Mix and Pretzels. They had about ten or fifteen different kinds of Sunflower Seeds. Some weird ass flavored ones too. For example: Taco Supreme flavor, Zesty Ranch flavor, Dill Pickle favor, Jacked Pepper flavor, Takis Fuego Flavor, and BBQ flavor. For a hot minute I considered trying one of those bizarro flavors. I eventually decided to just get a bag of regular old David Original Jumbo seeds. My same old, same old. Maybe someday I'll try one of those exotic flavors. But probably not. Oh, and I love that the self service soda fountain featured Pepsi products, Love me a Pepsi with my Sunflower Seeds. In fact, there's a veritable plethora of drink options in this Mini Mart. In addition to the self serve soda fountain, there's also a slushie-type machine with two flavors (red and blue). They even have one of those push button automated Espresso machines. The Mini Mart is stocked to serve the local community as well as travellers passing through. Shelves were stocked with everything from pet food to BBQ supplies. You need Folgers Coffee, French's Mustard, Del Monte Ketchup? Top Ramen, Campbell's Soup, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese? Toilet Paper, Motor Oil, Insect Repellant? You need a Gas Can? You can find it all here at the Forresthill Valero Mini Mart. And I was impressed that the price of gas here wasn't that much higher than it was in Sacramento. So, yeah, I'm a big fan of Foresthill Valero. I especially appreciate that they provide a public restroom. I was happy show my appreciation by spending a few bucks Mikey C says: Forresthill Valero, 5 Stars all damn day!
