This is a great Chevron station located at the Cisco Grove exit off the 80. I'm headed back down the hill from Reno and I could really use a restroom right about then. Some coffee would be good to for the rest of my drive. Lucky I don't need gas, as the prices here are way high, but that's to be expected at these remote locations along a freeway and especially cause it a Chevron station. Being a Chevron station you can expect clean restrooms and a store with all the things you might need for the road trip. Coke or coffee and Funyons! This place is filled with A holes The workers are jerks, we asked for help to remove our snow chains. And they were going to charge us the amount it cost us to put them on in the first place. The chevron stinks, it's a complete dirty mess. The workers rather sit and talk to each other and shovel the snow than help the customers. We were parked and the guy in the snow plow was angry at us for not moving our car when he wanted to plow next to us. Mean while we were parked out of the way trying to remove our chains. Then a women and her special-needs son were struggling to remove theirs as well. Not a worker in site to help. So my family and I helped to remove hers. Don't go here, they will watch you struggle, glare and judge you. And if you want help it'll cost you a hefty amount. For a crowded Travel Center, including big rigs, the Chevron itself is on the small side, as is the restroom. And, both are dirty inside and out. When I asked the cashier if there was a restroom. He just throws his thumb over his shoulder, without saying a word. In addition, the air and water machine is out of order. Words fail me to explain how bad it really is here. Stopped here for a pit stop on our way back to Reno from California during a wet afternoon - CalTrans was out in full force flexing its muscle, stopping traffic on a whim, requiring chains, not requiring chains, and the like. Those of you who rush to the Sierra mountains from Northern California on the news of snow must know what I'm talking about. At any rate, I was glad for this location and happily joined several people waiting in line for the unisex restrooms (they have 2), while my husband put in gas. The store is quite small but people in line were polite and workers were accommodating. Afterwards, I really wanted a cup of hot green tea, but the only choices were Apricot Green and Lemon something; I chose the Apricot Green - apricot smell was overwhelming. This gas station came in handy when I was low on fuel and energy. I gassed up and grabbed some pretty bad coffee. They did have cappuccino options, as well. Also, there's tons of chips and candy, etc... There was no line, so service was quick. Unfortunately, customer service was the worst I've had in quite some time. The cashier scowled as I entered the store. He was curt and seemed to glare.I'm pretty sure I've never met this guy before, so what's up with that? I asked a question about my receipt, and he snapped at me. He spoke aggressively to someone in the store. Maybe he had a really bad day? The gas prices at this Chevron is at least 20% higher than most gas stations. You're really paying extra for the convenience especially when there is heavy traffic and you're looking for the closest toilet. The line for the bathroom is out the door for men and women. If you can hold it for another 20-30 minutes I would recommend driving down to another gas station where the prices are more reasonable. Perhaps they won't charge $4.00 for a tube of Pringles over there. read more

Very disappointing. There was a sudden & unexpected snowstorm while going through Donner Pass. I and 2,000 of my closest friends were stuck, full stop, on the I-80 due to something, a crash? overturned truck? CalTrans put up "Chains Required" signs; I didn't own chains, and had never installed them before. I pulled into the Chevron, to have it professionally done. Another 30 or so drivers did the same. They charged $74.99 for the chains, $9.99 for the "rubber band" device, and $40 for installation. I know all these prices are high; I don't begrudge them for "getting what they can," since we'd all been stuck on the highway for nearly 2 hours; we were a "captive audience" for sure--plus CalTrans *required* the chains, so I had no real choice. Here's the part that irks me ... after the $40 installation, and I tipped the installer an extra $5 ... upon returning to the I-80, all traffic going about 20 mph, I started hearing a "thunk, thunk, thunk" on the right front wheel. I stopped at the VERY NEXT offramp in Kingvale, (a mere 7.2 miles east), observed the right chain was coming off. In Kingvale, I waited in line for over an hour, paid *another* $30 for installation (they wouldn't discount the fact that only ONE side needed attention; again with the captive audience)--here's the kicker--the installer said "No wonder this came undone, it was installed inside-out. You're lucky you stopped, some people don't, and the chain wraps around, cuts the brake lines--then you'd have no front brakes!!!" (we all know front brakes are 70% of the stopping capability) I really disappointed I paid $40 for installation, plus a $5 tip, and it was done WRONG!!! The whole purpose of paying the $131 was to have it done CORRECTLY. PLUS, I could have caused the NEXT accident, and ruined my car, and delayed my fellow travelers! SAFETY FIRST! read more

DO NOT BUY SNOWCHAINS FROM HERE! DO NOT TRUST THE EMPLOYEES! I wish I had read Chase R.'s review and the many others about their snow chain experience here (plus the reviewers on their previous Yelp page before they had partnered with Chevron https://www.yelp.com/biz/cisco-grove-valero-cisco-grove ) Due to the snow, we were forced to buy chains from the nearest gas station open, which unfortunately was this gas station. The employee gave us the WRONG SIZE (same incident that happened to the other reviewers). The employee was going around installing chains. Our chains looked loose on the car but the employee insisted that it was fine. They even went further to tell us that the chain will make a noise as if it's hitting our car, but it is not so we shouldn't worry. LIES! Next thing we know, the snow chains damaged our car that will know cost me almost $300. I came back to the store to ask for a refund for the snow chains and adjusters (which was outrageously expensive, cost like 100-200% above the average market price). They did give me a refund, but dismissed the idea paying for my car damages and putting the blame on me. The employee simply cut me off. Rude! I requested I speak to the owner and had to basically push the employee to write my number down. I still haven't heard back from the owner, which I'm not surprised. I hope he's not running away from his responsibility... THIS IS A SCAM/SHADY BUSINESS. The station knew exactly what those chains would have done, knew the chains were loose, and yet kept being persistent that the chains are fine. THEY literally even DECEIVED ME saying that the noise from the chains will sound like it's hitting my car, but that it is not and not to worry. LIES! The chains was hitting my car and damaged it. THEY SCAMMED AND LIED just to make money off of me. And now, I'm left with a damaged car. When your business is responsible for damages, the least you can do is reimburse me for the damages. I'm not asking for a million dollars, just $300 to be reimbursed for repair expenses. I have filed my complain to Chevron and they will be contacting the owner. I am HOPEFUL that at least the owner will show some decency and pay for the damages which happened as a result of your employee. This is the least you can do for this horrible experience that a customer of yours has had. And not to mention, you have other reviewers mention similar incidents. As the owner, please do the right thing and provide a reimbursement. Otherwise, I will have no choice but to sue. I have evidence of the damages and all conversations said to me. Decent place to stop on your way up to Reno or heading back. We usually stop for a few minutes to stretch our legs and breathe in the fresh air. In the winter, it's pretty to look across the freeway to the snowy mountains. The small grocery area usually is good for a snack and everything is kept clean. I've gotten gas here too with no issues. read more

Stopped here on our way to Reno. The restroom was probably one of the cleanest gas station restrooms I've been to in a long time. Apparently, this station is located in the exact middle of Reno and Sacramento so it was a perfect location for us to take a quick potty and snack break and get back on the highway. I am a trucker and Caltrans directed me here to chain up. It was my first time doing so and I followed other rigs in. Admittedly, it took me 20 minutes longer than a seasoned driver. I got the front chains on and was almost done with the rear duals and this Indian dude suddenly was yelling at me that I need to leave. I apologized profusely, explained that it was my first time, and pleaded that I only needed 10 more minutes. He didn't care, just kept yelling for me to leave immediately. There were a lot of cars and rigs there, I understand that he was trying to keep things moving, but we are all prospective customers. He was rude, rude, rude, and downright mean, to the point that he almost had me in tears. I had to turn my rig around and head back out westbound, which took over an hour due to the traffic and my dispatcher told me to return to Sacramento, rather than complete the run. My load was a TOTAL LOSS because of that Indian guy not giving me 10 more minutes to finish chaining. My company, my coworkers, and my friends and family all are surprised at what a jerk this guy was. He would have served his station better to show a little "customer service" and human compassion and/or diplomacy. Karma dude. read more

My family and I stopped in at the Cisco Grove Chevron station on Monday. It was snowing and there was chain control. The employees in the gas station were incredibly helpful. Having to purchase snow chains is never a joy, however, we obviously did not plan ahead for the weather conditions so it was a blessing that they were there! An added benefit was the new Subway restaurant located there. We were able to pick up sandwiches and continue on to Reno. The Subway was incredibly clean and the employees were quick and very friendly. Grateful that they are there and will definitely continue to stop there on our journeys over Donner Summit! read more

With family members spread out across the western United States, i am no stranger to road trips and truck stops, both summer and winter driving. Lucky's Travel Plaza is awesome, for starters they sell Chevron, so I know the fuel is high quality. But most importantly, I am always willing to stop here whether I am coming or going. The staff is very friendly, and when traveling with 3 children on long road trips a smiling face is always a huge plus. but most importantly, I feel safe stopping here with my family, some gas stations are quite shady which clearly not the case here, plenty land and easy access, I was even able to get help when I needed to chain up. This is a very nice and large truck stop, I feel safe stopping here and love the fact that he staff will talk to me in English and they are able to answer questions I may have. My only hold upon 5 stars is that there is no fast food establishment in the complex, don't really want to eat convenience store food for lunch or dinner. Add a brand name fast food chain to the travel stop and I'll upgrade my review to 5 stars. read more

I'm a trucker and while this place is little small compared to the Love's and the Pilot's, their fuel quality is next to none and the food store has items that you don't normally see everyday at highway stores from clothing, craft drinks, truck products, TV's, etc.. i've been coming here since i was a child. it used to be a highlight on my families' drives to the snow. it is no longer a highlight... i went in there in the am hours to get drinks snacks and smokes before going snowboarding. i had a nice chat with a 30 or 40 year old gentleman. We spoke briefly about how business has been lately; and then i went on my way with a smile on my face. later on in the day i decided to go back again for some drinks snacks and gas. All i can say is wow. One of the staff members was extremely rude and obnoxious. and to top it off he purposely bumped into me to get my attention. The awkward stares started when i walked into the door. The first thing i grabbed was my coffee and then my wife and i decided to just grab a cheap road dinner from here. after we lined up to use the microwave i noticed the worker was still staring at me. i just kinda shrugged my shoulders and tried to laugh it off. i went to the drink section to see if they had perrier and san peIagrino because i was thirsty. I looked to my left and the same worker that was staring at me since i walked in was standing 3ft away just glaring at me like i had already told something. I rolled my eyes at him and laughed; i chose not to get the water because i was getting annoyed and offended at this point. so i walked back to line up for the microwave and told my wife that one of the workers keeps glaring at me and I'm starting to get offended. sure enough the same guy popped up again in back of my wife and i. I was pissed off at this point already. he literally looked over my shoulder to see the hot pocket and breakfast burrito i was holding in my hand to warm up then glared at me again. i looked him in the eye and told him to quit staring at me and that my wife and i aren't going to steal anything so leave me alone! i turned my back to him and ignored him. Seconds later he felt the need to clean the coffee machine i was standing next to and knowingly bumped into me and then stared at me again. I quickly told him HEY MAN WTF?! MY SHOULDER IS INJURED WHY WOULD YOU BUMP INTO ME AND NOT SAY EXCUSE ME?! the worker simply stared at me like he new i stole something. i warmed up my crap dinner; then my wife and i went to pay for our items. i asked politely to speak to the manager. The older guy i was talking to stared at me and then awkwardly said we don't have a manager. since there was "no manager" i told the cashier that was "helping" us that his fellow employee should learn to be more tactful and less offensive. then a younger male decided to butt into the conversation and tried to justify his actions by saying, "a lot of stuff gets stolen from here." i asked him what does that have to do with me?! and did i steal something?! He then asked me why i was arguing with him. I quickly asked him do you not understand; I'm just telling you about my crappy experience with your obviously untrained employee. I'm not arguing with you and then he just looked down at the cash register. Then i noticed the same guy glaring at me again from behind the counter. i asked him whats your problem?! and why do you keep staring at me?! then the cashier and the employee started talking in another language and then the cashier said HEY DID YOU STEAL THAT HAT?! i literally said OMFG?! ARE YOU CRAZY?! SMELL MY DAMN HAT! then i slid my hat to him over the counter he smelled; and then threw my hat across the room after he noticed it smelt like sweat and cigarette smoke because i was wearing a 10 year old hat. I can't believe that mofo really threw my hat. I will admit i do look like a bum... but i'm far from it. My wife and i are hard working tax paying american small business owners. I told the workers involved that you guys are being unprofessional and were obviously not properly trained to do your job. To all the bay area and nor cal skiers and boarders don't wear typical urban attire in this store or risk being harassed and possibly battered by an uneducated worker. i will definitely be spreading the word at the local ski resorts about the way your employees treat different people. To the manager that does not exist according to your employee please train your staff better. if you get the right a hole with enough money in there don't be surprised if you guys get sued for harassment. I stopped by this enterprise late last Friday night en route to Tahoe. A blizzard was beginning, and I needed to buy chains -- and hoped to get some help putting them on my car. When I asked the proprietor if he had chains in stock, he told me that he would need my exact tire size and warned that I was being filmed on camera, so I would not be able to hold him responsible for mistakes. (He had clearly attended charm school.) He also curtly said that he had no one on staff who could help install them at that hour. I checked my tire size, and he had the appropriate chains in stock. He charged my $91.38 for them (more than CalTrans-approved installers charge for both chains AND installation). Right after I bought the chains, an installer stopped by the station to get gas, and I pleaded with him to help me install the chains. He kindly agreed, but the proprietor of the station then insisted that I pay him half of the installer's fee. Uncertain about protocol, I agreed and paid each of them $20. (I since have learned that what the proprietor did was completely unlawful.) An hour later, as I was driving -- slowly -- in what was heavy snow, one of the chains broke. I had to park the car in a random parking lot and hitch a ride with friends. When I tried to return the chains two days later -- and pointed out that they fall under the warranty of merchantability applicable to all sales of goods in California -- the shop refused to accept the return. The personnel said that all sales of chains were final and refused to contact the owner. Bottom line: if you need chains, look for CalTrans installers on the road. Under no circumstances should you stop at "Lucky's". read more

Rolled in here on a sunny afternoon on the way to Reno. The parking lot was overrun with tourists trying to sled on the tiny hill out back. It was an absolute circus with employees trying to marshall people into spaces and those trying to get gas (including commercial trucks) were having to weave around the multitudes, most of which were not even paying customers of the gas station. One employee was sympathetic, while another (who appeared to be his boss or a manager) was rude and rushed us away. On another occasion, my wife was there trying to chain up her vehicle (She is a commercial truck driver, as others were trying to do, since chain controls often happen just off the highway) and was kicked off the property by the manager for NOT BEING A PAYING CUSTOMER?!?! Seems he has no problem with all of these tourists clogging up his parking lot for sledding, but not for chaining up to get over the summit? DO NOT stop here. Great travel plaza! Clean station, friendly & helpful staff and great fuel prices, especially the diesel - lowest around, I believe! Piping hot coffee and good selection in the store. They have done a great job expanding this facility! I don't really understand the negative reviews others have posted here, but I think it probably has to do with that this location gets very busy during cold weather when there is snow and chain requirements are in place. I think the problem results when some vehicles are trying to chain up and don't really pay close enough attention to where they are parking while attempting to get their chains in place and end up blocking the access or exit side of the fueling operation - especially on the exit side for trucks, since this goes right behind the angle parking for the restaurant building. Also, it seems that some of the families who are sledding sometimes also park in the exit aisle way for the truck fueling canopy. This results in trucks not being able to get in & out for refueling and the staff I think gets a bit frustrated and overwhelmed - especially when they might have to try and hunt down the owner of the vehicle in question in order to get it moved and fueling operations unimpeded once again. I don't think it is reasonable to expect everyone else to wait 10 or 15 minutes while you finish chaining up while blocking the refueling business operation. I know that also when the snow is coming down it is also sometimes difficult to see exactly where the parking stall striping and traffic flow arrows are at. I think the staff probably should have told the one lady trucker who was blocking the truck fueling that she could finish chaining up after she pulled her truck out of the way and suggested where she could pull up to do so. However, if the place was busy, there very likely was not space available to do so. Ask yourself what would CHP do if you decided to chain up in the middle of a traffic lane because traffic had stopped and it seemed a good use of time and then traffic started moving again and they told you to move your vehicle and you asked them "can you just give me like 10 or 15 more minutes to finish chaining up?"! This is going to be an awesome spot to stop for gas and get a bite to eat and a hot cup of great coffee - in addition to other things: Fill up your personal tank as well as that of your vehicle! read more

We stopped at Lucky's Travel Plaza on a road trip and it was entirely perfect. We were able to get food, gas up, get some coffee, and snacks for the rest of our trip. The bathrooms were really clean, which as avid road trippers know is so important! It was also great that they sell winter gear because we were totally unprepared, my running shoes weren't exactly snow proof...We were able to buy warmer gear!
