Grounds

I would leave 2.5 stars if that were possible, but it's not, and this experience was closer to a 2 than a 3. We had a "private room" that was basically a converted attic on the third floor of the third building. The staircase was so narrow that I'm amazed we got our suitcases up to the room. I didn't bother to take photos, but the room was pretty dumpy - cracked tiles and soap scum all over the shower door. You had to let the shower run for 10+ minutes to get the water remotely hot. The toilet paper was so cheapo, it was painful to use. On the other hand, the air conditioner in our room worked great - which was much appreciated after climbing up to that attic and sweating in the hot, smelly building. The pool area is nice, but one of the pools was closed during our entire stay because it was only half full. It must have a crack or something? One of the employees at the front desk is rather rude, acting as if you're bothering him when he's just doing his job. The others were okay, though. On our last day, the ceiling began leaking all over the stairs and second floor. We notified the front desk. When we returned, the "fix" was a caution cone and piles of towels on the floor. In short - if all you want is a "cheap" place to sleep in Key Westx, NYAH will suffice. If you want something remotely nice, look elsewhere.

Mold above the bed
Marlene A.

The only reason they got two stars instead of 1 is because the staff was so nice at front desk. Our room was disgusting --room 216 filled with black mold and walls were all cracked. The bathroom was filled with mold. $725 for the most disgusting room and because New Year's Eve there was not another room. The manager never came out to talk to me. It's unfortunate because the grounds were beautiful and the breakfast every morning was great....I wouldn't stay in a mold infested room for free!!

Cockroachs everywhere in room

I would give those guys zero star if i could it was a late night i came in paid 200$ for just one night and found the room so nasty alot of black bugs made me itchy, checked out at 02:00am without getting a refund and didn't find any place to sleep Not recommended at all stay away from bugs. Edited: STAY AWAY FROM THIS NASTY PROPERTY; i had a conversation with that rude manager regarding my refund cause i didn't stay even for a minute he answered me " your case has been declined and i will call the police if you didn't leave right now " THAT'S FRAUD

The good: Price point was decent. Staff was friendly. Pool was nice. The bad: No parking at all not even handicapped. Getting to the room was a nightmare with 2 very steep and tall staircases. Room was a converted attic. Had to literally crawl under the roof to get into bed. (See photos) Pool deck was poorly maintained. Hot tub had one working jet. 1 TV in the room and in the master bedroom. If you wanted to watch tv, it had to be done from the bed. With the room offering 4 adult accommodations, I expected more. Breakfast consisted of cold hard boiled eggs, toast, bagels, Little Debbie style sweet rolls, muffins, coffee, water, and apple & orange juices. We left and went out for breakfast. Area: 1.2 miles fro Duval (main attractions) and a $15 one way Uber trip. All in all, if you're looking for an affordable place to sleep, it's a good value place. If you're used to decent accommodations, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Termites everywhere that made it into our luggage, our clothes and even into the seams of our luggage!

TERMITE INFESTATION!! I get there might be a few termites in an old wooden building but we had hundreds! They got into our luggage, our shopping bags, all over the floor by the window. It was disgusting! When we told the front desk the employee said there was a lady last week freaking out about the same thing. Why wouldn't they at least give us luggage racks to put our suitcases on so we didn't have to put them on the floor if they KNEW they had a problem?! When the manager, Michael Nicholas, came in and we told him, he was cold and snarky. Like he's heard it before. Not a problem solver. Would not refund us for the disgusting room they put us in. This place needs to be tented!! Or shut down.

The lovely wall

Definitely "Not Your Average Hotel." This might be the worst hotel ever. Let me list all of the things that were wrong with the room I stayed in. 1.) Huge unbalanced bump in the floor (Looks like they're trying to make this hotel a cash cow and are building things completely wrong) Sadly I couldn't get a picture of this 2.) Sink won't shut all the way 3.) My personal favorite: When you shower, you will be welcomed by a lovely puddle when you walk out 4.) The shower is gross 5.) Cracks in the wall 6.) The mirror...I will leave pictures 7.) The doors to the balcony's are completely locked in such a strange manner 8.) I opened the fridge to find residue from a sticky substance on my hand Hmm...I'm sure there's more to add but I'll save that for someone else to review. This was a last minute booking and never again! You get what you pay for.

Multiple pools, some of the room setups

NYAH is just that-- not your average hotel. There were a lot of aspects I loved and a few things I didn't. NYAH is set up like a bunch of little houses put together and they all have their own rooms with card entry. It's half "hotel", half hostel. It's great for solo travelers because you can share rooms with other solo travelers and safe money. In general, it was one of the cheaper options for hotels in that area. Honestly, it was a really cute set up. Rooms all look different in shape, but they all a locker per person and bunk beds. It's very basic-- TV, plain beds, no decorations or anything but it was simple and sweet. You aren't going to spend your whole time in there anyway! You are provided towels, soaps and bedding. You can share rooms with others or get a private room. Rooms, like stated, are kinda everywhere and anywhere. Cons: 1. When we arrived a NYAH, we were put in a room that was literally in the lobby. Why they have this room is beyond me. It's the first door you see as you enter NYAH. It's "convenient" but loud and seems like you have no privacy. The front porch light shines through. One of the light fixtures were broken. It was honestly a bad room. Looking at reviews it seems like some rooms are better than others (including a lot of stairs which is hard if you have a lot of bags). But, they fixed our issue with the room. 2. There's only on call security it seems. It's Key West so we arrived back late a lot. No one was at the front desk including security. Our first day we arrived late due to delayed flights and we called to update them twice. They had security check us in but he told us he was at many locations and we will be there soon. So really, no security. The front door was always open regardless of time, even though there was a sign saying it would be locked and to use your key card to enter. Pros 1. Room situation. Thank you so much to the hotel staff (I believe her name was Raquel? She gave me her card and lost it). She helped us find a new room. It was an issue at first but she called the hotel manager for us and understood our concern about the room. She moved us to a 6-person room! It was quiet and perfect. She said there was very limited two person rooms so please keep this in mind when booking. 2. They have a bar! It's tiny and at the front desk but it honestly wasn't too expensive for Key West. 3. They have 3 pools (one heated) and a hot tub. It was nice!! There's a ton of greenery so just expect some leaves. That's another thing I loved is all of the greenery. It's gorgeous (i wish I took more pictures-- i added one that kinda shows it). 4. The location was PRIME. Everything we wanted to do was anywhere from 5-15min walk. They also offer bikes ($15 for the day or $20 for 2 Days) and we biked to the beaches. It was great location to Duval St. 5. It's modern/updated. It's honestly a good location for the younger crowds. A lot of bachelor and bachelorette parties. 6. They offer discounted Fury trips through their website. We did a glass bottom boat tour (seemed a bit kid-oriented but it was fun! They have a ton of other options too). Overall, I liked this location! I had no issues with staff and the second room was great. I'm only hesitant to book as a 2 person private room due to limited rooms and we could be stuck with that one lobby room.

Our private little patio and bungalow style room.

First trip to Key West! Price - Weekday rates in May were about $500 including fees and over $1000 per night in weekends. Our room was around 200 square feet if that, included a Murphy bed, 2 sinks and a shower (very low water pressure), that's it. A little pricy for the accommodations. Amenities - Property came with 2 pools, one was heated. They offered cocktails from the registration desk for a fee and had a Starbucks coffee maker in the lobby which was nice in the morning. They also offered bike rentals for a reasonable fee. The modest accommodations made it difficult to justify the price. We moved to another hotel after the 2nd night.

Try lugging your suitcase up this stairway. Yea- there are 3 more to go

We travel quite a bit. Stayed in many rooms. This was one of the worst I've ever seen. We were given room 331. 4 flights of steps which were in poor shape ( no elevator ) we arrived to our attic room. The balcony has pieces of scrap wood thrown on it - no access- The bathroom sink leaked which flooded out the bathroom -the front desk was notified -there was also water leaking into one of the bedrooms - again not one care was given by management- . Because the room was in the attic , the mirror in the bathroom was all on a slant - so you had to bend backwards to see your face in the mirror. Master king bed was placed on a queen box spring . We slid off the bed when we sat at the end of the bed . Second bed was crammed into what appeared to be a closet . Impossible to stand up. So many issues and the staff was borderline rude . We needed towels for showers . The response "well aren't you checking out today ?" Does that mean we aren't allowed to shower ? 1 tv in one bedroom. Rusty micro fridge . A sad table with 2 very old chairs . Zero dressers or hooks - no closets-no storage . The bathroom door had to be slammed to shut correctly . Zero amenities in the room. The floors were slanted and bubbled. I could go on but you get the picture . We paid 750 per nite for this nightmare . I give it one star as that's the lowest i could go . Avoid this place at all cost . Find a park bench.

This is a built in nightstand with a door that won't shut.

Terrible hotel building with terrible customer service…read more Building is old and consist of few buildings combined. Need to change elevator 2 times to go to your room. Rooms are nicely decorated but not what you expect for $1000 a night. They are way over priced for the quality. Front desk staff is terrible. Don't know how to handle issues which you will have plenty. We didn't have AC 2 out of 3 nights and they didn't even feel bad about it. They said basically it is what it is and we have to deal with it. One night they moved us to another room and they were acting like they were doing us a favor. It was major problem for us. second night they moved us to our room which has broken AC And gave us boxed fan to cool off. Front desk manager is clueless and don't know how to handle issues and he has kids working for him who do not know how to handle anything. They are like teenagers. I would never ever stay there again and warn anyone not to there. Oh you will wake up 5am because of dumpster trucks getting the trash and it takes like 20 min. Another thing is their damn roosters , they start 4am and won't let you sleep. Jesus, it was 3 days of hell!

We wish we had checked out and stayed at Marquesa hotel instead. But everyone was at the same hotel for the weekend so we stuck it out. For the price point, ones expectations are commensurate and this place was not even in the same universe as other hotels charging the same rate. The hotel is right on the water but in key west, the same can also be said for a gas station. Right away you know there's a problem because the elevator to reception smells like rotting seaweed (sargassum). The reception area seems like a guest room that was adapted and its small and dark and doesn't work. Then you get to the guest rooms from the year 1985 with chair railing and crown molding that has never seen a magic eraser in its life. Covered in 40 years of dust and who knows what else. The blinds have never been dusted or replaced in 40 years. Are you getting the picture? The head board had mystery smears on it. Floors were filthy with 40 years of accumulated dust. We dared not step one toe into the murky pool. We watched as guests sat there for hours, drink after drink, and never got out. Not even to use the bathroom? Ewwww. Every day the streets flood with high tide and poor civil planning so coming and going from the hotel means wading in ankle deep water and probably sewage, which is probably why the elevator smells so terribly. No wonder all the associates there seem so sad. I would be too if I worked there. I was sad for the resources and time spent here that I wont get back.

Check-in was busy when we arrived, but the staff remained friendly, patient, and accommodating. We've stayed here several times over the years, including during the renovations, so we've seen the resort through all its phases. It's wonderful to see everything almost completed, and the property looks great. Throughout every visit, the staff has always gone above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. One thing we've learned is that if you have a special request, just ask , they're happy to help whenever they can. Our two-bedroom suite was perfect for our family. We love the layout and found it incredibly comfortable. While many guests prefer the ocean-view rooms, we actually enjoy them, even with the occasional cruise ship in the harbor. Besides, you're in Key West! Take a walk and explore, you'll find gorgeous ocean views all around the island. The location truly couldn't be better. You're within walking distance of Duval Street, Mallory Square, great restaurants, shopping, and so many Key West attractions. We also had dinner at the newly decorated Lolita's Coastal Cocina, and it was absolutely delicious. A special thank you to Damir K., who has been wonderful throughout our stay. His hospitality, along with the rest of the staff, is one of the many reasons we keep coming back. Keep up the great work, Opal Key...we're already looking forward to our next visit!

There are lush beautiful plants all around you and you'll often see little lizards scurrying by the pool. I would stay here again but during high season, the rooms get expensive. I loved room 3 but would love to someday stay in the cute cabin looking rooms up behind the pool. They have a covered porch, sitting room m, and a large bathroom. Overall, the service was solid. The grounds of the hotel are lovely, the bed was amazing, and the pools were a lovely respite from the crowded streets and heat of the city.
