I submitted a price quote request through her Contact form on her website, providing approximate dimensions of the pouf and two pictures. She responded asking what filling I wanted and suggested cotton. I agreed to the cotton, noting that I just wanted "something that allows you to sink into the pouf a bit while also having some bounce to it." She stated that she is "an expert at cresting inserts to serve" [sic] and asked for the dimensions of the pouf. I re-sent her the approximate dimensions. She then asked again what I wanted it stuffed with (even though I had already agreed to cotton) so I asked what the price differences were for different fillings. She replied with a bizarre email: "I cannot figure out how to satisfy your request. You are asking for something that isnt possible." She reiterated that solid cotton filling would be the best and that other "people will do exactly as you ask, and when you see it doesnt look great, theyll tell you too bad" [sic]. I replied asking why my request was impossible (I already agreed to cotton) and that I was honestly just happy to defer to her expertise. She said that it would be possible with cotton, to which I agreed FOR THE THIRD TIME, and I sent it off to her. TWO WEEKS later, she finally emailed me back to DOUBLE THE PRICE, claiming "I have used an entire bale of cotton and I need to use and additional half bale." [sic] (Keep in mind that a bale of cotton is defined to weigh 500 pounds, but the pouf is only slightly larger than a sofa cushion.) Regardless, I asked her for an estimate of the amount of cotton needed, to which she tersely replied, "Cotton is cotton. Do you want a refund?" I agreed to a refund because I didn't want to pay $350 to fill a pouf with cotton. I sent SIX EMAIL REMINDERS over three weeks, most without any response from her, to even get her to return my pouf and issue a refund.

Beatrice took an AptDeco score ($150!) from 60s to timeless quickly and inventively. It is now a stunning red velvet. The seat cushion is that perfect balance between firm and comfortable. It's been well over five years now, and it still looks good. The good: Everything is solid, and high quality. The manufacturing is as local as local can get - as it is made just a few miles away, but you'd swear it was made in Italy, given the craftsmanship. The local manufacturing was a huge plus for me, as I wanted to keep my carbon footprint small. The installation went as well as could be expected - every major kitchen install is complicated and filled with issues. The could-be-better: There was a lot of conflict between my architect, my contractor, and NY Loft. I doubt you would have any such issues if you just use NY Loft as your designer, contractor, and installer. But if you need them to work with others, and have others work with them, stand back, because there will be major fireworks. In spite of that, everything got done. The bottom line is that they were trustworthy, and they got the job done, and it all looks good and functions well. They are headstrong and have tempers, and they may not always play nice with others, but when all is said and done, they are professional. The project might take a while, and there will be bumps along the way. Kitchens are complicated, and any kind of renovation in NYC is especially complicated. However, I would recommend NY Loft to anyone who is willing to go the distance in a renovation - they'll go the distance for you.
