I've added this to my Secret Bar Collection, because it's a cheap date night fun surprise and the $4 ferry ride is like a cover charge for a 1.5hr rooftop waterfront boat bar that serves $10 canned craft beer and seltzer with great views of downtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Rockaways. It's a way to enjoy a sunset or afternoon to just kick back and relax with a drink. That being said- the bar is not always open- so don't fully rely on it being open, but you can still bring your own drinks and snacks on board, which makes it even better than other bars with rooftop and waterfront views - huzzah! It will take you to Brooklyn Army Terminal and Downtown Rockaways if you like a stop there as well. It's not faster than the A train or S train, but way more relaxing and lovely and enjoyable- even in the rain through the dirty windows. read more

The Rockaway NYC Ferry is a great option to get to and from Rockaway Beach from the city! I usually take the ferry to and from Wall St Pier 11 for summer beach days. Pros: low cost, beautiful ride (especially during sunset, OMG the views!); wind in your face if you sit on the upper floor or not if you sit downstairs; bathrooms; concessions stand that serves alcohol; pleasant and convenient when you take it during non peak hours; can pay a fee to take your bike on the boat. Cons: long waits (up to an hour or maybe even longer) if you try to go at peak times (Saturday mornings from Wall St); very specific drop off/pick up locations so if you don't live close by, the subway may be a better choice. Overall, the ferry is wonderful! Hey, it's a nice $4 about an hour boat ride and you end up at the beach! I would recommend it if you aren't trying to hustle/aren't on a specific schedule. read more

My wife and I traveled to Pier 11 Wallstreet from Rockaway Beach on Saturday November 21st 2023 when it was raining. The ticket indicated an Expiration date of January 19th 2024, not too shabby First off the parking was easy for us because we planned to take the 8AM ferry and arrived early. No cars were on the street for an early Saturday Morning. Free Street parking no metersbut who knows how long that will last...LOL Street sweeping signs read no parking between 7AM till 8AM but there weren't any police writing tickets nor street sweeping vehicles, at least when we arrived which was 6:50 AM. Kiosks were easy to use and took credit cards or cash, but looked very weathered from the salt water air, i guess time to change them out. If you have to use the bathroom? "Uh Oh no bathrooms at the pier!! **Fix: drive WEST 5 mins on Beach Channel Drive to STOP N SHOP Supermarket on the LEFT (map in my photos) walk in and use bathroom in back of store, you can also pick up a snack for your trip while your in there. Dunkin Donuts across the street and was open. Ferry was prompt and left on time. No bathrooms on board my ferry and I didnt see any signs that stated mens or ladies room, at least when I checked but then again I also didn't ask a boat attendant daaa. If you stand up while the boat is in motion you may be hit with some sea sickness so stay seated which to me the best way to avoid that. *Sitting outside on the second floor (top) of Ferry, VERY WINDY and you may be blasted with cold air depending on the month. Recommend bringing a heavy hooded sweatshirt, jacket and hat if you plan to sit up there. It was raining hard outside today and nobody was allowed upstairs. *Keep in mind passengers aren't allowed to use a speaker phone, nor amplified sounds coming from any devices while on the Ferry. *NO DOGS nor animals on board unless in a kennel box, THANKS!!! Dander and Urine makes for itchy eyes and sneezing for most of us. They do sell snacks and drinks on board so they say but it was closed when we rode. This is when Stop N Shop Supermarket came in handy. *You can bring a Bicycle and Surfboard on board from what I saw today but they stay outside on deck, so bring either a bungee cord or lock to keep your bike in place. I didn't see any luggage racks inside and I am not sure about *electric scooters? You'll have to call ahead on that one All in all a very inexpensive 57min rocket ride to NYC @ 4 dollars per person. Who knows how long that will last when the hotel across from the pier in Rockaway beach is built? LOL it may jump to 8 bucks per person?, just saying. Dont quote me. Great subway alternative for traveling to and from the Rockaways. For $2.75, the Rockaway NYC Ferry will take you from FiDit to B108th Street in the Rockaways, with one stop near Sunset Park. I believe the trip from the Rockaways to FiDi was about 45 minutes. Unfortunately, you cannot use the $2.75 fare to transfer to the MTA subway or bus systems. The ferry has an outdoor upper deck and indoor bottom deck. The bottom deck has a concession set up so one can grab a small bite to eat and/or something to sip on. You will have to venture to the upper deck to get nice photos of the NYC skyline. The windows on the lower deck were a bit dirty. This ferry is definitely a game-changer for my summer commute to the Rockaways. read more

This isn't going to be a long overview but it doesn't need to be. Recently a friend of mine had suggested hopping the ferry to spend a little while at Rockaway Beach and since this was a day with not too many important agenda items I was all in. The schedule said the ferry was arriving at 10:30 so we headed down to 58th Street near the Brooklyn Army Terminal with just enough time to purchase the ticket and catch the boat. It costs the same as a regular MTA fare and you cannot use your Metrocard in case you didn't know that. It would be nice but nope. Once the boat arrived we secured a space at the rear of the craft so I could watch us heading out. The top was crowded and I didn't want to stay inside. It gets windy so if you are planning on wearing a hat or bandana you might want to put that aside for a little while. I enjoyed passing my Bay Ridge neighborhood and going under the Verrazanno Bridge and passing Coney Island's famous rides. I didn't bring my conventional point and shoot or concert DSLR and opted to just use the mobile for this first time jaunt. Among the many sights, a dolphin swimming by as we got close to Coney was probably the highlight. Sadly I wouldn't be fast enough to snag that and he was heading one way while we were going the other. It was a smooth ride and the onboard crew was friendly. You had a wear a mask the entire time but I am okay with that. I think it was about 40 minutes to get to the Rockaways. It was refreshing as an experience overall and I recommend that anyone with some time on their hands give it a try. Things To Bring Along: A bottle of water, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, extra mask and perhaps some snacks if you wish to eat when you hit the destination and don't feel like purchasing anything there. read more

Had a great time taking this ferry from Rockaway to Wall St. The ride was about 50 mins. $4 for one way which seemed like a good deal for such a nice ride. The weather was beautiful and we got some great views from the water. A great way to get to/from the beach! read more

Other than being an open air terminal (it's easy to get cold), it's compact and functional enough to be satisfactory to get on and off at. The East and West bound free Shuttles are parked directly out front so you can miss them as you get off. read more

Excellent, and cheap ride either to Manhattan, or to the beaches in Rockaway. I loved the scenery as well.

I was so excited to finally go out to Rockaway! Usually my beach is Brighton or Coney, and believe me that's long enough of a train ride, so I never wanted to take the A all the way to Queens. Enter, the ferry! 11am on 4th of July weekend was not even really a long line at the seaport nor on the way back from the beach. It's CHEAP! I couldn't believe that it was just the cost of a subway ride! The ferry had bathrooms, comfortable seats, and you can ride up top or down and look at the scenery going past. The beach is a short walk away, bathrooms are cleaner than Coney, beach is much cleaner than Coney and there's food, boardwalk, etc. Watch out for the waves! We got knocked under several times. It is less for swimming than frolicking. Keep an eye on your kids in the water. read more

Wow looks like I'm the first review for my favorite ferry! This thing is more dependable than a brand new Toyota and definitely the preferred way to get back and forth to the Rockaways. Why pay the price of a subway ride to actually sit in a subway? Also, really great that I'm able to bring my bike for $1 extra. Worth it to never have to deal with holding it on the subway, there's bike racks in the front of the boat. Hands down the best way to get around, the captains and staff are legends. read more

Great scenic ride fo $2.75. I stand on the stern and listen to those German diesels roar. You are basically covering the route of the immigrants in New York harbor. When the waves are big in the Atlantic Ocean, the twin aluminum hulls cut right through. read more
