For the first time in a very long time I was very pleased with the cleanliness and the overall appearance of the Cheektowaga DMV. It appears to be freshly renovated as well. The staff were very pleasant. From the moment I chimed in to get my number to the moment I got called and conducted my business. Very pleased. Nothing about coming to the DMV is fun. You are coming here understanding that you will be waiting and waiting and actually waiting some more. I suggest if you can take care of your business online than do so. But other than the wait times being long, the service you receive here is fine. I am quite impressed that the customer service reps. Almost everyone here is, rude, arrogant, nasty, disrespectful to a degree I've never seen before anywhere in all the states I've lived in. You people have no idea what a gem you have here! I live in California, my local DMV is no different from any other DMV here in the state. If you don't make an appointment...it's a 4-5 hour stay, minimum. My last visit, I waited in the California "cold" ... outside in line for about an hour and a half, until I finally got the customer service counter to get my ticket. I then waited another 3+ hours to have my number called...and I was just picking up personalized plates. Seriously, we're screwed here. On my last trip to Buffalo, my daughter had been procrastinating about getting her NY drivers license. So I took a day out of my visit w/ her we went to the DMV (or whatever you call it there). While she was getting the license, she figured she'd get the REAL ID version. We walk in and get into the customer service line for a short wait. She had recently moved and didn't have her new address on her latest utility bill. Instead of sending her back for a return visit, we had to vouch for her new residence and all was good. Quick photo, some more misc paperwork and she had a ticket. Immediately, like all others in line prior to her, her ticket number was called. She goes to the window, does what she has to do and we're out in 20 minutes, max. We still had the whole day together...no wasted day. This was mid-week, late morning. You people should not complain one bit about this location. If you want to gripe, you can come to California and kill and entire day waiting in line for me next time I have to go. It might be worth it for me paying your airfare too. read more

Well it was a Saturday but not very busy at all. just renewing my license and said it should be 15-20 but the lady who gave me my number gave me an appointment number instead of a regular number. As I sat and waited and waited. I went back up to where I got the number and said when is your appointment and I said I am just renewing and the told me you have the wrong number and need to get back in line to get a new number. this after I waited over an hour. It was there mistake. So I went to the lady walking around answering questions she moved to to the front of the line got me a new number and moved me to front of line to get my picture taken. The picture taken asked me who have me the 701 number, pointed her out and said she does that way too often and said I shouldn't have to wait another half hour to pay and sent me to the supervisor. She was the first one to apologize but sent me to window 16 and said they will take care if me. No one was there and just told me to wait for my number. Thank God for the associate who was working window 15. He finished up with his customer and pulled me in and took care of me. He was so pleasant and was very kind and understanding. This is why you got 3 star. All other associates were robots just rushing everyone through. It was not busy for a Saturday but just incompetent people working with no customer service skills. read more

I recently had (another) 29th birthday, and it was time to renew my divers license. I received an email in advance to remind me of my upcoming expiration. I was hoping to just renew online, but the eye exam makes that difficult. Making an appointment to renew was easy, with a good amount of availability, and convenient early-AM pre-work slots. This DMV is located in a strip-mall plaza, with plenty of parking. Walking in, it is clear where to go to reception. The receptionist on the day of my visit was friendly, took my photo, and moved me along quickly and kindly. Then the window clerk who processed my renewal was even nicer, very sweet wishing me a happy 29th birthday (again). I'm docking a star because the cost of renewing your license is out of hand, like the price of just about anything these days--OVER $90! Besides forking over my ninety bucks, I had a very good experience at this DMV for my renewal transaction. read more

My friend went for dinner with me. I started talking about explicit sex, and she had the Cheektowalkout on me. Can you imagine? I've been to this location maybe 3 times in my life. Mostly when I lived in East Buffalo, but once more recently (about 2 years ago I think) to help get the friend (who I shared a car with) sorted out and back on the road. We were processed slowly, and without much attention or care from the employees. So basically, this DMV is nothing special, pretty typical. The people are not too friendly (but then when are DMV employees friendly), and like every other NYS DMV, they will rip you off and nickel & dime you in every conceivable way that you can imagine. Other than that, it's awesome. It scores 2 just because I've seen worse. And in some states, it's even more extortionate. read more

Ok, I was ready for the hour long wait at the DMV to turn in plates from a car I got rid of. Pulling in I was already preparing myself to get in to a bad mood due to the frustration of waiting. What a surprise! I walked up to the customer service desk and figured I'd need to get a form and stand in line. Instead the lady took the plates, turned around to the computer and had a receipt in my hand in less than two minutes. I was shocked! 11:30am and no wait?! I'm sure there are times it gets busy but I have to say the trip to the DMV is nothing like it used to be. They are friendly and efficient, the last thing I expect from a govt office. This is the 3rd different state DMV I have used, and the first one in NY. The thing that's nice (but unusual) is how this branch is open until 5:45. Not 5:30, not 6, but 5:45. Yelp can't even accommodate the proper hours! Anyway, I like this because I was able to make it after work. The people I have dealt with were all very friendly and nice. At least for me, it was not busy at all and I waited perhaps a minute to get help. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely go back to this DMV office in the future. read more

I can't really compare this DMV to any other locations since this is the only one we've ever gone to (it's the closest to our house), but I don't know if any location could get any better or even worse than this one. The DMV is notorious for standing in lines, waiting, standing in more lines, ect. You go there, tell them what you're there to do, they give you a number, you wait to be called, business goes smoothly. I will say that the employees there were efficient and relatively kind. The only super long wait I had to endure was waiting for my number to be called. We were probably there for less than an hour or so. It was my first time handling something at the DMV all by myself, and I think the atmosphere did help me feel a little less nervous about what I was there to do. Definitely go during the week, before the afternoon if you can. I know a lot of people take advantage of the fact that this location is one of the only few that is open on Saturdays, but I would keep that in mind if you really don't feel like sitting around for a very long time. I had gone on a Tuesday before noon, and even then there were a ton of people waiting around before I had got there. read more

I can see why there are low ratings for this place. However, it is the only one open on Sat so you don't have a choice if you need something done on a sat. It's very busy here. Just like the other 2 DMV I have been to in Buffalo you stand in line to get a number and the right forms to fill out based on your need to be here. While there is a lot of seating sadly none has a back so very uncomfortable to sit on. But for me no issue because it's standing room only for me. The people are moving in and out though so are being helped fairly quickly it seems. It's warm in here but I imagine that's hard to control on a day like today with tons of people and rain pouring outside. This is in a strip mall in Depew NY. There's a Wegmans near here, a MMA place next door and a Chinese restaurant on the other side. While parking was fine the restaurant does have spots blocked of for them only. So not as easy as it could be. read more

This is a far cry from the DMV trips of my youth. Very electronic. Pretty seamless. They keep everyone either sitting or moving . They have people walking around helping. The employees are very happy and pleasant to speak with. Not a bad scenario at all. I mean , it is still a LONG wait. However , not horrible at all. What is horrible, is the lack of respect that some of the customers have. You are at DMV. If you are older than 16 , you should know what to expect. Don't be impatient and rude to the employees who are trying to help you ( when you didn't do any research or come prepared in the least ). Here is my special gift of feedback to the customers...it is rude to talk on the phone in a place of business, especially with people sitting all around you !! Have some respect. I guess this is a review of how much better New York DMV is than Florida's DMV. I have only gone to two DMV's in NY. Prior to that I lived in FL and compared to FL NY DMV is a dream! Yes, on a Saturday is going be hectic, but it still doesn't compare to any day of the week in FL. I have never spent more than hour or even 45 minutes waiting in line. Every one that I have help me has been really nice and when they take your picture they even ask if you are ok with the picture they took. Ha! You should has seen my FL drivers license, they don't give a £#*!. Anyway, my point is you will never see me complain about having to go to the DMV in NY. read more

Came here desperate to register my car on a Saturday morning, since this is the only DMV that is open on Saturdays in Erie County. Walked in, took the place in, and walked right out! First, you have to get in a line so that you can get a ticket to get in ANOTHER line, before you get your actual number in the OTHER line that'll get you to where you need to be to get what you need to have done... CHAOS. The first line was about 30 people deep. The second line was about 100 people deep. I don't know what time you have to get here on a Saturday to actually get to speak to a helpful human being that will process your paperwork but I wasn't about to stick around to find out. Second, this place smells like feet, is loud, and is jam-packed with a lot of ummm... INTERESTING looking people. If you work M-F, 9am-5pm like I do, you'll just have to use some PTO or sacrifice the pay during the week if possible to get service at a DMV. I would not recommend this DMV to anyone!!! read more

If you don't have experience with busy DMV offices, I can understand the frustration. Similar to other government social services agencies, you are given a number based on the type of services you need SO THAT THE RIGHT PERSON HELPS YOU instead of wasting your time and frustrating the process further. Is it busy on a Saturday? Yes, but that is to be expected since it is the ONLY office open on a Saturday in Erie County. They are open from 7am until 1pm. We walked in to find a busy crowd but there was plenty of seating. We were almost immediately greeted by a DMV employee who was standing by the self-service kios. He was friendly, professional, and had a nice sense of humor. He pulled people from the customer service line when the self-service line wasn't busy, and helped people with their paperwork and obtaining an appropriate number. He also answered random questions with a smile. We arrived at #497 and were issued #512. Everything moved fairly quickly. Thank you county employees for giving up part of your weekend to help make our lives more convenient. read more

Recently came here to get a new license. The girls working the customer service desk were very friendly. Making small talk, smiling, they even asked everyone if their photos were okay after taking them. It seemed they gave every elderly person (anyone with grey hair) what they called a 'fast track' number. Not sure if it was simply due to the nature of their transaction or a courtesy due to the fact that they were elderly. That made the wait time extra long. I noticed at least 10 people who came in after me get called before me. Otherwise it was a pleasant experience with friendly staff. read more

Very patient and helpful staff not a typical DMV setting. For the dump of the town it's in I was surprised how nice it was on the inside.

The best way I can describe this experience was somewhat organized chaos. You enter then wait in line to be given a number based on what you are there to do. I'm not sure what the different types of numbers mean, but there appear to be different numbers for renewals, written tests and other services. Then you have to wait for your number to be called. In my case, it was a two and a half hour wait. The seating is bench seating and NOT comfortable. Why not provide seats with chair backs?! There are only a few with chair backs and they are designated handicapped. When I was finally called up to the desk, I had my paperwork and license in hand for my name change. This included my social security card with my new name, banking card, credit card, health insurance card and work ID with my new name, my marriage license and my old license. After looking at paperwork for a few minutes, the clerk went in back for about 5 minutes. She came back and told me she needed to check with a supervisor to see if she could do my name change. I had looked online in advance of my visit and, according to the NYS DMV site, had more then what I needed to make the change. She came back and asked a few more questions, then went to the back room again. Finally she reemerged asking for my payment and saying I was able to complete the name change. She gave me a slip of paper and then I had to go wait in another line to get my picture retaken. I had just retaken a picture in October, so I was surprisd about this, but I was told it was because pictures are tied to signatures and since I had a new signature, I had to get a new picture. After getting a new picture, I had to go back to the clerk, fill out another paper and was FINALLY sent on my way. I understand that this is the only office open on the weekend and that is the reason it is so crowded, but that doesn't mean things can't be more organized or more people couldn't be working to assist with the lines. They either need to open more locations on a Saturday or have additional help on duty to expedite the crazy lines. They also need more comfortable chairs. read more

My advice to anyone: do not go here on a Saturday. I know. They are the only dmv in the area with Saturday hours. I get it. But just take a weekday morning and go. Suck it up. Because it's worth it to not have to deal with the Saturday madness. The staff seems to be all over the place. The woman at customer service didn't give me a number when she helped, she just shipped me off to get my photo taken, which resulted in me being thirty numbers behind my husband. Yes, it was that busy. This location is also not the largest. They do have a station with clipboards and pens, which I was surprised to find stocked pretty well. Went today around Noon. I had to renew my registration. I was out in 5 minutes. I had teller at window 16 and she was very pleasant. She was smiling when I walked up. I was there last month with the same results pretty much. That is why I decided to give 5 stars. Thanks DMV! read more

What a great experience! 2-1-18 5:20 pm the customer service:greater on the left side was crabby while handing me a number but the rest of the experience was a joy! The nice guy #9 was patient, friendly and extremely accommodating plus lots of fun. I was registering an older car and they even went above and beyond with my silly request to find a plate that matched the year of the car. His supervisor went searching for one for me. Went there from Niag. County because of the Sat. hours. Walked in and the place was packed. Met by a security guard who said no worries it will go fast. Renewed license and was out the door in just 10min. The womentire at both windows were plenty and helpful. This place is run very efficient and would recommend it to anyone. read more

This DMV Office went down hill. 1. The place is a smelly mess. 2. The information girls should be more accurate on what you need. 3. They need to change the office hours on the web site (9 am instead of 10 am) The office has a sign that it's 9:00 am but the web site says 10;00 am. I went on a Thursday I had to go in person this time for a enhanced driver's license. I had the form that was mailed,my SS card,proof of address (2), old license, birth certificate and my eye exam card. Was told since I was married and needed my marriage license and was given the same form that was mailed to me to fill out. Drove all the way home fill it out got my copy of my marriage certificate, came back to found out I needed the original NOT a copy. This why I wish I could of mailed it!! You need to get better help and I'm sure you could of use the copy I had more than enough information for you to see who I was. I guess some people just do NOT want to work read more
