I visited for a yellow fever vaccine, which involves a subcutaneous injection (administered into the fatty tissue beneath the skin). The injection site seemed a bit unusual (please see the attached picture), and later became inflamed, red, and swollen. I am planning to travel to Africa soon, and the doctor mentioned he would prescribe medication for traveler's diarrhea. However, when I went to the pharmacy, they gave me a prescription for malaria (something we had not discussed) and did not receive the Z-Pak prescription for traveler's diarrhea from the doctor's office. Said my oxygen was low, said I should get this thing for measuring oxygen which he did not prescribe, said should go to Hospital. Two ladies at front desk in street clothes were cold and unfriendly, completely unprofessional and un empathetic. Seeing that this doctor, to me was not helpful, I literally walked out! No wonder this place is empty. Hours later, to cover his ass, he sent 4 prescriptions to the pharmacist. At least one was an antibiotic which you do not take for viruses. He did not take a chest xrays, just ordered a crazy number of prescriptions without tests. I called my primary care doctor and the WTC 9-11 Program to follow up. My primary care doctor saw me the very next day, today, took a chest xray. No pneumonia- don't need any prescribed antibiotics. Dumped 3 of the 4 prescriptions that were not needed at all!. My background: whole family is doctors and Sector Chiefs. I am first aid trained for years. As a WTC Victim/ Volunteer, I cannot take antibiotic without good reason or I can develop immunities to them. He gave me doxy, a very strong one-for no reason! My Dr. put me only on prednisone, which he did too. However he did not include how to take the pills. You can't make this up. I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN!

Someone else commented on here that they had a horrible Pap test. This was my experience as well. I agreed to it because the nurse kept pushing for it. I had no idea I was agreeing to have 8 people in the room. It was embarrassing to see them all poke their heads between my legs to examine my vagina. Had I known that I was going to be used as a guinea pig for the medical staff, I wouldn't have done it. I was so nervous and sweating so much that I sweat through my sweater. The medical staff were also all laughing at me like it was a joke. I spoke to the nurse and MD repeatedly about having my Vitamin D levels tested because I had presented with severely low Vitamin D levels before and even though they assured me it would be done, it never was. I told them I would like my second free visit in one year and they scheduled me for another visit within the next month, then told me that I am not allowed to schedule the second free visit. All the years of paying taxes to be treated like garbage by a place that is run by taxpayer money is embarrassing, degrading, and demoralizing. There were some negative things as well: 1) My friend came for regular Primary Care appointment and along the lines mentioned OB GYN issues to Primary Care provider (a student doctor who worked that day at the Practice under supervision of senior doctor). This student doctor was not OB GYN doctor, however he remained present during pelvic OB GYN exam and even participated in OB GYN exam - he put his long, sharp nails inside my friend's vagina in a quick and unexpected motion that my friend almost jump out of the chair. Friend told me later it was the most horrific OB GYN experience she had ever received. Also, during this OB GYN exam there were many people present (2 students doctors - male and female, and 1 senior doctor - male) which made the experience even more awkward. 2) Free Clinic had to call my friend back with appointment information to see 2 different specialists at Bellevue Hospital. One specialist was marked for Urgent appointment. My friend never received appointment with that specialist, even though she called Free Clinic many times. She only received appointment with 1 specialist who was not urgent. This place is OK for regular primary care but not for OB GYN care or specialty care.

Really recommend to not come here. The first issue is communication. It is nearly impossible to reach a live person. Most calls end up at a recording directing patients to the website, and the only reliable way I've found to get someone on the phone is sometimes through the billing office. For example i just tried to call twice because they mixed up my medication. It's 10:45am EST... full business working hours... and their answering machine said they will get back to me within 1 business day. The second issue is continuity of care. The office now seems to function as a revolving door of students and trainees. While I fully support medical education, it becomes frustrating when a different person handles every appointment and you have to repeat your entire medical history from scratch. Even more concerning, my patient information often appears to be incomplete or inaccurate despite multiple prior visits - again just this week completely mixed up dosages of medications I've been on for years, should clearly be on my sheet? On more than one occasion, I have received recommendations that seemed far more extreme than warranted for the issue being discussed. Follow-up is frequently promised but rarely happens. Never once getting a follow up call on outcome of test results. The biggest problem has been prescription management. I have been on the same medication for years and needed a routine refill. The prescription was not sent, which is something that has happened now multiple times. When I finally reached someone by phone, they proceeded to ask me (the patient) which medication and dosage I take because my chart apparently did not contain that information. Thankfully i obviously know what i take - but that should be confirmed and monitored by the doctor - after all that they sent in the wrong dosage to the pharmacy and doubled my daily medication. The lack of communication, poor recordkeeping, missed prescription requests, and inconsistent follow-up have made this practice difficult to trust with ongoing medical care.

Not too fond of the front desk when you walk into the hospital, those nurses not so nice, they made the 4 star review. They didn't even take us to the emergency part of the hospital they put us in this little area with his open wound. How is that safe? No gauze nothing just while we wait. We didn't even get a bed to sit in like they normally do in the hospital. Put us in triage with blood everywhere. You're joking right? This is the same place that sent us home when he had previous injuries and said he was ok. Thankfully my significant other saw Gandhar. He was a very nice man. He got him all cleaned up in the hallway. The triage was not packed but the hospital overall was very quiet. We didn't get to go into a room to clean the bleeding wound yet. Normally you go behind a curtain in the triage area. We couldn't because a nurse was being treated because a patient hit her with a needle, pretty scary. I just didn't like the fact he was sitting in pain for like 2 hours before someone came over to us. This place wasnt packed either, not sure why we had to have his brother wait outside. The room we were in had people coming and going quickly. We checked in at 1:15am and was finally seen at like 2:30am/2:45am. It took about 10 mintues to clean out the wound. With no pain meds this procedure had to happen. Still waiting thirty minutes/hour later for Tylenol. Then to make matters worse the room smells awful because someone just waxed the floors with harsh chemicals. Terrible, it feels like hospital purgatory. Then theres 3 other patients here besides the nurse. One gentleman keeps passing gas, I can't. The first dr. Gandhar was super nice he gets 5 stars 100%. Stars dropped because sitting in pain with an open wound is no bueno. Where's the boys Tylenol something for his pain? American hospitals are the worst. Its almost 5am and we been here waiting for some type of treatment, anything to cover the wound. Now that it's almost 5am they put the tylenol order in and they say he needs a stitch. Really? We couldn't have done this 3 hours ago? I'm sorry 4 hours ago? Now we are put in a room after 4 hours????? Really? Nice doctors but cmon. To be fair they were short staffed. I'm thankful that doctor Lambert double checked his finger. Still here for the last 4.5 hours. Hopefully they finish this soon. The nurse who gave him a vaccine was super nice. Finally got his Tylenol! Ok but watching them put the stitches in was amazing to watch. Pretty cool watching Dr. Gandhar do the stitches. He had to have the senior resident watch because he is 3 months on the job, I looked it up. Everything was wrapped up at 6:45am we were here for 5 to 6 hours. Then it just gets worse from there. 2 - You have to wait 5-10 hrs for a ("more appropriate welcoming hospital room") to become available. 3 - our daughter was taken in a stretcher IN 14 degree temp (no coat allowed "for safety reasons") only a SHORT SLEEVED thin hospital top and a THIN sheet. 14 Degrees!! 4 - I noticed a previous patient was rolled out, wrapped in a comfy blanket and warm hat. 5 - If they think they are keeping patients with mental illness "safe" by making them FREEZE.... this is torture! 6 - Once she arrived to Gracie Square Hospital (horrible place) they took her out of the stretcher and made her stand there IN THE COLD, while they scratched their heads over not knowing how to carry the stretcher over the snow. They did not have the empathy to cover her up or at the very least, leave her in the ambulance while they figured things out. 7 - This happened last Tuesday afternoon. Its taken me a full week to write this review because I was focusing every breath on my daughter. 8 - THIS and Gracie Square's hospital only goal is to not get sued over a suicide. They rather torture a patient then provide adequate compassionate care that would in itself prevent a suicide. 9 - If your loved one is suffering a psychiatric emergency, Call 988, or simply bring them into the emergency room but OPT FOR OUTPATIENT CARE. DO NOT LET THEM ADMIT THEM. The hospital experience felt like a 1900's asylum. Come on NYC. get your act together. This is a sad disgrace.
