Horrendously Bad Radiology Center That Mistreats And Discriminates Against Patients For Having The Very Medical Conditions Needing Testing!
There is simply no standard of quality or training of technicians here, nor any professional supervision--placing patients, as we experienced, in a very dangerous situation.
"Edrick" (spelling may not be correct), the technician to whom we were assigned, immediately insulted the testing order from my doctor, who happens to be a highly respected surgeon in the NYU Langone system itself.
But according to Edrick, my doctor's radiology scrip was allegedly written incorrectly and "made no sense," which is absurd---as it clearly stated exactly what needed to be tested, with the required pictures to be taken.
As I attempted to explain my condition to this arrogant, unprofessional technician, and show him the areas of my body needing to be imaged as per the doctor's scrip, Edrick nastily snapped, "I don't want to see any of that!"
I was mortified! If the technician who's supposed to be a trained medical professional can't deal with the sensitive medical issues patients go to the hospital to have treated, doesn't know how to do the specialized radiology ordered, and despicably insults the patient for having the medical condition, the patient is placed in an impossible position.
There should be one standard--frankly, a high-quality standard--at all NYU Langone radiology locations for medical technicians who are supposed to be trained to do the radiology ordered, not to mention show respect and compassion to patients.
But no such standard exists here, as we quickly found out.
After being insulted several times by this technician, who could not perform the desperately-needed, time-sensitive test, I politely asked to speak with the radiology supervisor.
Of course, you can probably guess that this request was immediately taken as fighting words, prompting the technician to go into a rage, storm out of the exam room, and nearly knock me over in the process!
I was doubled-over in sharp, piercing pain at the time, and could barely walk. However, I did my best to get back to the reception desk, where I again asked if I could speak with the supervisor given the urgency of the situation--and my pressing need for the diagnostic test.
When the supervisor (an Indian-American woman, name not provided) briefly appeared, her reaction was to immediately blow me off, refuse to speak with me, and with one of her hands, rudely give me the shoo-away sign!!
I was discarded as if nothing more than a piece of trash by this woman, who had no desire to assist me whatsoever.
This prompted my friend (who had taken off work to drive me into the city from a considerable distance in the suburbs) and I to head for the elevators to leave.
Before getting on the elevator, I quickly called my surgeon's office to explain what had happened, and see if there was any way we could obtain this vital radiology at another NYU Langone facility that afternoon--since my doctor wanted me to have the test immediately.
(The process could have been made a lot easier if the rude supervisor at this location had only taken the time to talk with me, done her job, and offered to help).
Instead, this miserable excuse for a supervisor--while I was at the side of the elevator bank speaking privately with my surgeon's secretary--came over to us out of the blue and began badmouthing me to my friend, making an embarrassing, unprovoked scene!
As it turned out, my surgeon's office was unable to find any other location in Langone's radiology clinic network with an open slot that afternoon.
The net result was that I was left to SUFFER by this vile, unprofessional, mismanaged clinic , without a shred of concern for me as a patient or human being, or for the serious condition prompting my coming there in the first place.
There was never any apology for the horrific mistreatment I experienced; just a full-barrel effort to cover it up, and smear me for reporting it!
Both the technician and unidentified supervisor should be fired for their misconduct, and for leaving me in a very dangerous situation. I'm still suffering in dire pain and discomfort as a result!
Rabid dogs are treated better at shelters than what we encountered here!
