After countless hours of walking, we arrived in this lovely oasis out of the street. You peer into the door way, in the back is an open courtyard almost like a secret garden. Beautiful ambiance and roof is open. The logo is a hummingbird getting Néctar from a flower and you see this on the menu, plates and small details. Clean place Service was friendly thou slow like a snail. Since we came in for a snack we ordered minimally: Mollettes with black bean topped with fresh avocados, tomatoes and feta cheese. I cannot say it was delicious because there was no flavor unfortunately. The presentation was lovely, yet no taste. Thumbs down. We ordered the chai tea, a pot and we were looking forward to tasting all the spices. We were sadly disappointed because the tea was bland. My friend and I questioned if this was the Chai and we didn't want to complain. We were exhausted. Would we return, there is so many lovely cafes and restaurants in town that it's a high probability we will not. The only restaurant in SMdA that we ate at twice. The courtyard vibe is awesome and it's nice to get out of the sun for awhile. It's not full vegetarian/vegan but the only meat options I saw were shrimp/fish choices. We tried the pozole verde, tamales, enchiladas, and chiliquiles. We also had the mango Lhassi and matcha smoothies. Everything was phenomenal and our meat eater friends were either happy with the meatless options or ordered the shrimp sandwich. They also have a surprisingly selection of hot teas and a very cool attached shop that sells interesting things including a ton of hummingbird feeders. You really can't go wrong here. The service was great as well. We had the same server both days and he recognized us when we came back even though they seem to stay pretty busy. read more

Our group was all different food restrictions and unrestricted eaters and everyone left talking about how great their meal was. Easily one of the best restaurants in town. Better than any rooftop we went to. Great for gluten free and vegetarian and vegan food. Be sure to get the flight of soups (they were all excellent) and the curry burger. I got the salmon sandwich without the bread which was perfect. We finished with scones and brownies (both gluten free and corn free and vegan) and they were way better than anything at the local bakeries. This secret garden is such a delicious place to grab a leisurely​ breakfast​ in San Miguel. ​The food is local, organic, ethically sourced, seasonal & delicious, and there are butterflies and hummingbirds​ flying about. The staff is engaged and friendly, checking​ in, giving suggestions, and being lovely. I would suggest this place for an excellent​ breakfast or as a respite from the heat (get the iced teas or an iced coffee). During our breakfast​ we had- Chilaquiles- In salsa Roja​, the chilaquiles​ are a delicious, organic version of chilaquiles. They come with a small serving of black beans, homemade​ cashew cream, and are made with sprouted grains or whole wheat tortillas​. I really enjoyed them. Breakfast Molletes- The molletes were also delicious. They included the same cashew cream and a delicious​ red salsa. As far as coffees go you have to make three choices- what type of coffee you want (part of the world), at what temperature you want your coffee (iced, hot), and how you want it made (french press, Moka coffee makers, etc.) The teas menu is out of this​ world. You can choose what temp you want your tea made at (hot or cold), the strength of the tea, and the type of tea. I had the pecado de chocolate (chocolate sin) warm and it was delicious. It's a black tea, rooibos​ tea that has a chocolate aftertaste. I had to buy some and bring it home. read more

Really cute hipster cafe with an open roof, a huge tree with bird feeders, and an adjoining shop filled with bird themed art and sculpture. It has an ex-pat vibe and feels like it might have been plucked out of Brooklyn. The feeders are frequently visited by hummingbirds and bees and it's just a warm, lovely ambiance. The vegetarian food was welcome for my family after a week of gorging on tacos. I got the burrito and other members of my family got the chilaquiles, tofu scramble, and frittata. All were great! Néctar really impressed me, not just for being the only place I found in SMA with a decent vegan breakfast, but for having a great, calm vibe and beautiful details. I ordered the tofu scramble, which came with toast and some roasted rosemary potatoes. I'm probably just used to US serving portions, but it seemed a little smaller than what I'm used to. Still, it was delicious and filled me up for the morning. They also gave us complimentary diced apples which had been steeped in one of their teas (rooibos maybe?) The incorporation of the tea elements in each dish shows how well thought out their menu is & really makes this place feel unique. read more

This is as amazing hidden place!! When in San Miguel, you have yo stop by to enjoy an fresh brew tea and listen to the wind chines and catch a glimpse of the "colibríes" feeding around the patio. I kinda of hate to keep giving 5-Star after 5-Star review but San Miguel De Allende is just a great place for good food and cozy cafes. I suppose the other reason is that I use Yelp and other review sites a LOT... so I'm not going to places that everyone thinks is only three stars. I've been here a few times and it s always been a truly wonderful experience. The loose leaf tea is of good quality and they sells it by 50 gram incrementas so you can pretty much get what you want. The more recent food menu is fabulous. They accommodate vegans and GF restricted folks really well with hearty, homemade food and tea concoctions. The tamales were second to none. I'm also a huge fan of their dairy free sorbet offerings. And the cookies... and the Mediterranean plate. They get busy at predictable times and service can be slow. But worth it.
