The only thing I eat here is their beef carpaccio! It's the best I've ever had and served with several pieces of French bread. Delicioso! Strangely, in their outside patio, they only have tables for 4,5,6 so when I go on my own while I'm out running errands, I end up sitting at a large table. Who knew SMDA had some of the best fresh baked bread in the world? Everything on the menu here from the perfectly balanced aperol spritzes to the flaky croissants and sweet jams are just perfection. There are two tables that seat two looking out to the street that make for perfect people watching. We did this the first day with spritzes and an order of Camembert cheese with jalapeño jam and bread. Came back two days later and enjoyed lattes & croissants. Perfect way to pass a couple hours. Totally obsessed with Cumpanio and also their bakery Panio. I inhaled the BAGUETTE WITH TAMAL. It's a chicken tamale with green sauced in a baguette. Their CONCHAS are also really nice with coffee. ENJOY! The wait can be long. Get there early. read more

Companion reminds me of the patisserie's you find in little villages in France. Great ambiance, friendly staff. They brought a serving tray full of pastries to the table. The Apple pastry was absolutely delicious. Flaky, light and filled with apple and as good as the best you'll find anywhere in France where they are called Chuisson Au Pom. This restaurant is located conveniently close to the parroquia, so if you want to stay close by but not deal with the hustle and bustle of the centro histórico, this is a great option. I ordered the spinach ravioli, which was a smaller portion than I anticipated, but I devoured every single thing in my bowl. The pasta was so thin and delicate, it melted in my mouth. It was SO good. I am not sure how this place gets so many great reviews but this was one of our worst meals in all of Mexico. We ordered two dishes. I had oatmeal and the bowl was 1/4 just water on top of cooked oatmeal with 5 berries. Completely unappetizing. My fiancé ordered a baked dish with poached eggs and it was also full of water - almost tasteless broth. When I asked if this was normal they were very rude to us. The egg Benedict's were delicious! I also tried the chilaquiles with both green and red sauce. I preferred the red it had more of a pleasant taste with a little bit of spice but overall they both were good. They bring out a piece of bread for you while you wait for your drinks. Once you've settled in look at the menu they have a few time you will be familiar with like waffles and omelettes but if I were you I would try their delicious chilaquiles or the crepes con chicharrón. The crepes were thin and soft while the chicharrón brought the bold, hot flavors only thing missing was a creme of some fort to help bring the two together. After a few minutes, we noticed some sewage smell from the back. We ordered 2 desserts at around $10 usd each, so we expected something a little bit more than 2 mouthfuls. Tasty but very very small. My mint tea was delivered lukewarm and with no teabag and no flavor. I did mention to the waiter who did nothing about it and didn't take it off the bill, though I did t drink it at all. Omar was awesome...very attentive and even insisted on taking a few photos of me and my wife... he went outside the cafe and shot in through the window. The soft boiled eggs served with some rustic bread were spot-on. The tables and chairs perfectly situated at the window (for both morning view and some exhaust fumes). Have to say that the second visit was on a much busier morning... Omar a little more swamped, eggs not quite as spot on... but still so nice. And the Cumpanio bakery portion (where you walk in, grab your goods and go)... oh man, oh man... we grabbed a bunch of stuff and had the greatest breakfast of scone and fresh bread and coffee back at the house. read more

Absolutely loved the food and the service at Cumpanio! I sat at the bar to dine and right away I started chit chatting with the bartenders. I stayed at the front however the back was more of a nice formal sit down place to have dinner. I ended up talking to other people at the bar who would come in for drinks. I ordered the cheeseburger and the parmesan/truffle fries. The burger was tasty and done well, it came with the trimmings on the side (lettuce, tomato and onion) and they were drizzled with some sort of vinaigrette. The bartender made a few drinks for me with whiskey and mezcal that were very unique and were not even on the menu! I also liked their attention to detail because the minute I ordered mezcal neat, they brought out the sal de gusano and the sliced orange. I know a lot of people rave about their pastries and even though I didn't have any for dinner I did come back for breakfast for some cold tea and awesome pastries!! Delicioussssss breakfast! They brought out bread with butter and a guava jam that was super good. Afterwards we had the Croque Madame and the Chilaquiles. Both were fantastic. I didn't want my sandwich to end. The egg on top of the sandwich was literally cooked perfectly so it didn't run too much when you cut into it. No idea how they did it but I loved every bite. I loved loved loved loved this place! We passed it several times when we were walking to the market, and I kept trying to find excuses to stop in. I was finally able to convince my companions to pop in with me to check out the bakery, and from that moment on we were hooked! The pastries were excellent and well priced. They had lots of options, we wound up taking home a huge variety of pastries. That initial excursion was so successful that it was easy to convince my husband we should have breakfast in the main restaurant the next morning. The coffee was wonderful, and the pastries we ordered were delicious. Sunday 8/18/19 6pm ish Rarely does a bar have reserve seating or a waitlist for a table. We moved to a table with a better view in the bar when it became available. Later the manager told us a couple at the bar was waiting for that table. We told him the couple came in after us. That should have been it but no. The manager approached us a second time and said the couple asked for the table, was put on a waitlist, but then went into the bakery. I asked the manager to show me the waitlist entry on the ledger by the door. He couldn't. Upon leaving the manager said he was told by three employees the couple asked about getting the table. Three employees? Doubtful. If any of those stories were true, why didn't he mention them the first time? Clearly the manager sided with the couple without investigating the situation and then tried to cover his mistake with nonsense. Who knows why he did that but the couple was Mexican and we are gringos. You decide. Beside that, the food is mediocre. read more
