I wondered if the food would be similar to what I had when in Siem Reap. It was a slow afternoon as the lunch rush was over, and I was given two broths to try. The seafood soup (tasted so much like fish amok) and beef soup. Both were rich and flavorful. After a few visits, I have tried the seafood noodle soup (limited quantity), beef noodle soup and chicken noodle soup. All were so good. The owner was so passionate about his food and personable. We chatted about Cambodia and his take on his food -- a bit of fusion Cambodian. So do not come here expecting the exact same things as in Cambodia. Eventually I will want to try the rice and sandwiches. For now the seafood noodle soup really called to me as I missed fish amok. Just too bad it is usually served during the colder months so it is not on the menu for now.

Per their website, they seemed to rotate between the River District, Mount Pleasant, and Joyce Station. However, every time they were supposed to be at Joyce Station (the only location I can easily get to), they would cancel, to my disappointment (they were good at updating their website, though). I had pretty much given up hope of ever trying Rice+Soup, but nearly two weeks ago, on Thursday May 6, I once again spotted them by Joyce Station after work, so I immediately called my husband and told him I was picking up dinner. For the both of us, I ordered two Nom Banchok Nam Ya (lemongrass chicken soup) and one Lemongrass Chicken Num Pang (sandwich) to share. The food was FANTASTIC -- the soup was flavourful, and the sandwich bread was delicious and crisped to perfection. I knew I would like the soup, but I wasn't expecting to like the sandwich so much! In addition to being DELICIOUS, the portions were huge! My husband and I are piggies, but even we couldn't finish the soup -- they were HUGE! At $13 per soup and $8 for the sandwich, I have no idea how they can make a profit with such generous portions -- the food is not only tasty, but excellent value. I highly recommend Rice+Soup and hope to visit soon; however, the owner (who is super friendly) indicated that they likely won't be returning to Joyce Station and will primarily be in the River District and Mount Pleasant.

NOM. I get excited everytime this truck rolls thru. It's interesting to see the pace the work and how quick and fast you get your food. Anyways I asked the organic produce farmer if he would recommend a place to get healthy food because I didn't want to start my morning with something sweet. He pointed at this lady who owns San Juan and said we all go to her because she serves the most delicious food in the market and super wholesome. I was excited to learn that and walked towards her food truck and even happier to learn that she uses organic meat which I wasn't too surprised given that she also was buying organic produce earlier. I ordered the chicken platter lots of meat, very tender and it was a coconut sauce over rice and some vegetables. It was delightful. I was too hungry and forgot to take a photo but it was also very well presented and the portion was very generous. The menu sounded promising (although overpriced for a food truck) with some nice classic sandwiches on offer. I ordered the "mumia" ($12) - which I have to assume is a play on Mumia Abu-Jamal who is from Philadelphia, home of the cheesesteak? Anyhoo... The description was very cheesesteak like with sirloin beef, pepperjack cheese, sauteed onions and peppers. The addition of garlic aioli moved away from the classic as did the usage of pepperjack instead of provolone. When I unwrapped the sandwich, I was torpedoed with an excessive amount of a watery oily substance dripping all over the place. It got all over everything - not in a good way. Biting into the sandwich was the next torpedoing. The bread was stale. I don't mean day old. I mean stale. Next torpedo: the beef was chewy, gristly, and very oily. The peppers were the best part - but they too were overly oily. Basically each bite gave you a mouthful of stale bread, a piece of oily gristle flavoured by an oily pepper and a drippy oily substance (perhaps a broken aioli?). I couldn't eat the bread. There was a small line when I approached the truck initially but their service was quick giving customers their sandwich within about 2-4 minutes of order, not entirely sure what the standard is for food trucks but for me that's good. The lady up front taking the orders was very friendly and was happy to help answer our questions. They only offered a few options but what I had to try was the jerk chicken sandwich as I had stopped a girl just minutes before and attempted to waft hers. Again service was fairly quick and I receive my sandwich within a few minutes. I don't think the picture I've posted will do it any justice but this baby was a beauty. The bun tasted quite fresh and almost melted in my mouth, the chicken and enough spice and flavour and the rest was just bomb. It is quite filling I found which is what you're looking for, good bang for buck. Definitely gonna track these down every time I'm downtown. Amazing experience for my taste buds.
