I'm not as young as I used to be and I hate moving, so this gave me the perfect opportunity to try out a moving company. I asked around, did some Internet searches, read some reviews and O'Connors Moving's name kept popping up. Heck, my storage unit even put in a good word for them. I called and scheduled a time to move what amounted to a one bedroom apartment's worth of items. O'Connors said three guys could do the job. Then they quoted me a price for three hours with an additional cost if the move took longer. I took their advice and away we went. The day of the move, the guys called and gave me about 15-20 minutes notice and then met me at my storage unit. After we loaded up, we went to my old place and got the rest of my things. Then we all drove to my new place and unloaded. The total time for the move was just over three hours for a fee of around $415*. I added a tip. I admit, I could have moved by myself for less money. At the same time I would have had to ask for volunteers, some of whom would probably flake, and it probably would have taken longer. ThenI would have had to find some way to compensate said volunteers. In this case, O'Connors made it easy, they did the heavy lifting and I was at work after only having to take the morning off. Trustworthy, professional and easy to work with. I'll probably move again one of these days. When I do, I'll call O'Connors for a quote. *Note: Not a huge thing, but O'Connors charged a small fee to drive to and from my move. I'm not sure if everybody does this and I honestly don't remember if it was mentioned when I made my quote, but I wanted to bring it up. It won't preclude me from using O'Connors again, because they were fantastic, but I thought a possible end user who is shopping around might want to know. read more

I believe a human only has a limited number of moves in them. Since I've far exceeded that number and I'm too old to recruit friends willing to spend a valuable Saturday to help, I was forced to pony up some money to hire pros. John O'Conner came highly recommended by a friend. His company is not the first moving company I've hired (for the record, the only thing I remember about the first was that they used the leg to my girlfriend's massage table as a wheel chock). I had a lot of angst about moving - there's nothing really fun about it. I took several evenings to pack and then two full days of vacation to finish. I spent a fortune on boxes and packing material - not to mention all the new stuff you have to buy for a new place. The only two good things about this experience is that I have a house I'm starting to feel at home in, and I met John O'Conner. A pretty bright guy once shared with me his theory for hiring great people by simply saying he appreciates a list of accomplishments but what he looks for is someone he'd let watch his kids. John is that guy. I'm sure I'll never move myself again, and I'm sure I'll never hire anyone else besides John and his company to do it. read more

I have moved a few times in my life and it has never been pleasant. However, if you must take on a move here in Metro KC and need professionals, I must highly recommend John O'Connor and his crew. We downsized from a three bedroom to a two bedroom apartment on the third floor and had to have a huge bed taken apart and reassembled. All was done with skill and our items were definately handled with care. We got quotes from 5 other companies and Mr. O'Connor was the only one that offered not two but three men and a good sized moving van not just a truck-for LESS than his competitors. All that and great service-it doesn't get better than that. Truly a good decision on our part and if we have to move again, we will call them in a flash. John came prior to the move just to scope things out, and his crew followed his cues and they never stopped moving (except for having some pizza that we provided). I hired O'Connors to move me from Midtown to Overland Park. From the initial call to establish an estimate to the day of the move, the process was seamless. The 3 men were prompt the morning of the move and were courteous/professional and, most importantly, careful with our belongings. This was my first time using a moving company and I will NEVER move myself again. They made sure to arrange our boxes in the new place according to room and made sure to ask if any items needed to be relocated before leaving. Very happy with my moving experience. I moved (during COVID) from midtown KC MO to southern Johnson County. I interviewed three movers who were highly recommended by friends or neighbors. John O'Connor was the only one who came to look at my apartment and talk about what I needed. His estimate was comparable or better than the competitors. On moving day, I did not see John, but the crew of Anthony, Chase and Alfonso were terrific. Careful and competent. I had a slightly complicated scenario, with one furniture piece going to the curb for trash pick-up, some to the basement, and some to the garage for future pick-ups, a few things remaining in place, and the rest going in the truck, headed to two different drop-offs. This is my first Yelp review. I am pleased to let anyone know O'Connors was professional, fair, thorough, and respectful. This was the first time I have ever hired professional movers. I gathered five different bids to move from a townhouse in Union Hill to a Tudor in Brookside. I narrowed it down to two - O'Connor's and a couple of guys and a vehicle. At that point, I put the question out to social media. I got some good reviews back on O'Connor's - but nothing negative - so that led me to commit to this locally owned company. Fast forward to moving day. They wrapped up our furniture, never complained, asked questions when they weren't sure how we wanted something handled, and never acted like my requests were annoying. I was very impressed with O'Connors Moving. I had a team of five guys move a lot of very heavy furniture to a new house that we recently purchased. They wrapped, loaded, unloaded, and placed the furniture without any issues in three hours. The team was extremely professional, courteous, and had a very cool work dynamic. It showed, because they were extremely efficient. This was my first experience having a moving company and I don't think I'll ever do without movers again! We have used John and his crew three times now. The first time was in moving some heavy and unwieldy items including a vintage Steinway upright piano that professional piano movers had refused to move claiming that it was the most difficult-to-move piano in the industry. John didn't flinch and brought the right guys for the job, moving the beast over many steps and varied terrain to get it where we needed it to go. The second time I needed some minor help moving large furnishings from level to level and he sent over a couple of his most experienced guys and it was a breeze. The third time was the most intensive as we moved an art studio across town. There were many heavy items as well as valuable fine art and we were dreading the move. However, John and a big crew showed up and knocked it out. Everything was moved carefully and with precision. John shows a lot of forethought in his decisions about how the process should unfold and it pays off. I saw this during the piano move and knew he was the right person to handle this tricky job. Well done, guys! At the beginning of the year I had moved our primary residence and used another moving company that has more ratings here on Yelp. They were good and I would give them a good review, too. However, they prioritized speed over care and weren't willing to think through challenging items. I'm glad the painter I was using at the time recommended I call John to handle the items they didn't take. We were really happy with our entire moving experience. Everyone was so professional - from setting the appointment until the last piece of furniture was moved. I just moved May 2010 and O'Connor's did a fabulous job. The owner John was there, along with three young guys. They were all very friendly and stayed on task. When it was time to pay I had cash tips for each person, but John gave all the tip money to the guys working for him, I thought that was pretty nice. Good experience with these movers. John is a good owner - very communicative and upfront about costs. My only complaint - and its a small one - is that we started with a budget for three movers and ended up with five movers on moving day. You pay a higher rate per hour based on the number of movers - which in theory makes the move go faster - but in my opinion five movers was too many for my move. So I ended up paying a slightly higher rate than expected. This can be avoided in the future by asking only for a certain number of movers. That being said, I would highly recommend them like the other yelpers have said. read more

John was hands on the entire time and each member of his crew was professional, personable and polite. I recently had a FANTASTIC experience with O'Connors moving. Both of my locations were challenging - I was moving from a third floor walkup to an older apartment in the Westport area with a tight stairway curving into the apartment, and I had a BIG challenge with a several hundred pound china cabinet which would NOT go up the stairway. I discussed my concerns with John on the phone when I first called, and he quickly offered to come to my apartment that weekend to take a look at the cabinet. He was very professional, and I was really impressed that he took the extra time to check out what I had before I had even hired him. The day of the move I was very impressed with John and his moving staff. They prepped all my large furniture to ensure that it would make it with no scratching, and the speed with which they moved everything (I have a lot of stuff) down 3 flights of stairs was really impressive. John also had large wardrobe boxes he let me use for my clothes for free, which was awesome considering how expensive those types of boxes can be - it made moving my entire closet very very easy. At my new place, the movers had no problems navigating my stuff up the tight stairwell - anything that wouldn't fit, they brought over the second story balcony, including my very very heavy china cabinet. I really thought I was going to have to sell that - I never thought they would get it inside, and the fact that they did was amazing. I have used other moving companies in Kansas City, but I will never go with anyone else ever again. The price was an EXTREMELY good value - they were cheaper than other companies I've used, and the quality was MUCH better. I used O'Connor's Moving for an in-town move and was exceptionally impressed. John, the owner, came by when I called to see what I would be moving so that he could give me an accurate estimate. Then on moving day, he arrived with his crew to make sure everything was good to go and then left me in the very capable hands of his team. I was very impressed by how efficient yet thorough the guys were. All my furniture was wrapped in pads and then plastic to ensure there would be no damage. Some pieces were even put in large cardboard boxes. The guys were friendly, weren't afraid to ask questions to make sure they were taking what was mine (I was moving out of a place that also had a roommates stuff) and took me through the house to make sure everything was covered. Once we arrived at the new place, they unloaded just as efficiently as they loaded, and set up all my rooms for me. I would highly recommend O'Connor's. They made my move stress free and super fast. This was the first time I've hired professionals and I would definitely use them again. This is the third mover with which I've had experience in KC, and by far the best. A crew of 4 arrived on time and with the right equipment, including plenty of clean moving blankets and wrap for pieces like an enormous china cabinet. The movers were friendly and professional and efficient.. They were also fairly patient with a little indecision at the unpacking stage. Billing is transparent: it's by the hour, and the efficient organization of the movers, none of whom ever seemed to stop working or even gripe quietly along the way, left no room for questioning the final bill. We just moved a couple weeks ago, and chose to use O'Connors moving after a friend recommended them to us. We definitely made the right choice! We were very pleased with their work from start to finish. John, the owner, and his staff were super accommodating and flexible. They worked quickly, were super careful (nothing broken or lost), as well as very patient with us and our indecisiveness. I was most impressed with their flexibility and willingness to move and re-move furniture and other items until we decided where we wanted them to go. Impressive! The best part of O'Connor's moving was there price! I have used movers for two other moves and O'Connor's Moving was the most reasonable by far! They even did some packing for us and our bill came out considerably less than previous moves. My only reservation with O'Connor's moving would be the size of their moving van. Perhaps we have more stuff then most people (might have a bit of shopping addiction...), but John was concerned that all of our furniture and boxes would not fit in the moving van so he scheduled 1 1/2 days for our move. I REALLY wanted to get everything done in one day so this concerned me a bit. John and his movers, however, worked it out and got all of our stuff moved in one load. They had to use a couple extra pick-up trucks to fit everything in, but they were able to do it and that's what matters! These guys are hands down the best moving experience I have had. I found them on craigslist and would refer them to others. The communication from John was great and even was able to reschedule are move date because of us not being ready. His crew was professional and even called us by name. I have worked in the trucking business and can say their equipment is top notch with plenty of blankets. We litterly had zero items scratched or damaged. We had zero parts of the house get damaged. They moved super heavy items including working a heavy double recliner couch down a tight basement stairwell. They didnt even stop to take one break in order to keep moving and the time spent to a minimum. I would suggest getting a min crew of 3 if not 4 or all 5. They were even able to use tools to break down furniture that was to large to take out of rooms and when we go to our new place they put it back together. Top notch read more
