After a hike in the Connemara national park, I was famished. My friend drove to Clifden and asked…read moreme to choose a restaurant of my liking. It was almost 4:00 pm and some restaurants were ready to serve dinner. I saw Mitchell's was to serve lunch until 4:30 pm. So we went. The servers and the manager (could be the owner) were very friendly and quick. Both my friend and I ordered the Hereford beef burger. I ordered a seafood chowder and pistachio cake for dessert. The chowder truly hit the spot. It wasn't thick and full of seafood. The burger was good, but I think the fries cut was too thick. It was nice the burger came with a small salad, which we didn't know and my friend ordered a small side salad. So we ended up with lots of salad. The fresh cream on the dessert plate was delicious. It went well with the pistachio cake. However, it was a bit hard to taste the pistachio. We chatted up with a couple who bike to Clifden once a year and they always come to Mitchell's for lunch, especially for the seafood chowder and crème brûler. High praise indeed. Highly recommend this place. I picked the right place.

And it's rare that I Shazam a restaurant playlist, but this one -- sultry vocal jazz versions of iconic pop hits -- was irresistible. Confirmed with our waiter that it's custom. Try the seafood sampler. Outstanding spot in a charming Irish town. Reasonably priced. Romantic. Great date spot.

A mile or so (technically a couple of kilometers) from the Cliffs of Moher is the Stonecutters…read moreKitchen. A wonderfully picturesque bistro with spectacular views of the County Claire countryside along the Wild Atlantic Way. From the 100-year-old cottage that the restaurant is situated to the beautiful patio and deck around it, Stonecutters provides the ideal scenery if you're visiting the area when you want to enjoy some delicious cuisine. We started with a bottle of Sangiovese while I noshed on some homemade brown soda bread, which was divine with Irish butter. The seafood tagliatelle was delicious and creamy that I savored every bite between the mussels and prawns and squid. The banofee dessert was magical between the biscuit on the bottom topped with bananas and drizzled with caramel and topped with ice cream. Enjoying our meal amidst the glorious setting was equally as memorable, if not more. No pictures can do justice to just how breathtaking it is to enjoy a meal in such a beautiful setting. Stonecutters is an ideal choice to enjoy dinner that has endless amounts of scenery to enjoy a wonderful outdoor dining experience.

The bright yellow house, turned restaurant is easy to spot on the way to/from the Cliffs of Moher. You pull in to a small playground and a friendly dog roaming the grounds. This place is unusually kid-friendly, while not being child-centric, particularly given the size. By that, I mean, on entering the public toilet area, there is a nifty baby changing station - WITH supplies. Anyone who's had a child can relate this to a restroom having toilet paper! I found it to have very thoughtful touches like that, the special room & playground equipment - I also heard staff tell a patron that the kids get a toy to keep with their meal. I didn't view the kids menu, tho I heard a parent talking about some options with her child, including fish & every child's favorite fun food "spaghetti"! Adults were not forgotten- there were candles on the table and nicely plated meals and home-style options, with a lovely selection of wine and beet to choose from. The service was friendly and helpful- food was well seasoned and properly cooked: fingerling potatoes were crisp outside and tender inside. I wish we'd skipped attempting the cafe at the cliffs all together & just started here!!

This was my FAVORITE meal in Galway!…read more It was my first time in Ireland - was visiting for business trip and we stayed in Galway for a few days and got to try several restaurants in the area. This was my favorite restaurant because of the AMAZING seafood. The raw oysters were super fresh and it was fun getting to see the manager show us how to shuck oysters (he used to compete in oyster shucking contest and was ranked pretty high!). The steamed mussels and crab claws were also delicious. Ending the meal with cheesecake was great! The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you are visiting a friend's home for a nice meal. Highly recommend checking out this restaurant if you are in the area and are looking for amazing seafood!

People after us were directed to the bar for open seating. The seafood chowder was rich and filling. Mixed oyster plate came with three Gigas and three natives (5 years to grow) but we couldn't agree on which was the best. Moran's featured half a dozen different cold platters and we ordered the smoked salmon which consisted of plate sized slices topped with a salad and a scoop of crab. The Marie rose dressing was delicious and made this salad one of our favorites of this trip. Lastly their Irish soda bread was the best we've eaten and wished we could've gotten a loaf to take with us. The good service, great food and eclectic ambiance made for a nice Easter Sunday meal.
