AMFA exhibits, represents and has inventory of the finest quality post war and contemporary art by the most important and historic artists. I have not (yet) visited the physical space in San Francisco; my direct experiences are limited to the most prestigious exhibition venues. Specifically, the last couple of years at Art Basel Miami Beach and the ADAA Art Show at the Park Ave. Armory in NYC. In addition to the Gallery presenting remarkable examples by the most recognizable mid 20th through 21st century artists, it is also a launch pad for important, rising mid-career artists. Anthony Meier and his staff are approachable, genuinely courteous and knowledgeable. Given the opportunity, and if one listens intently, the Gallerists unhesitatingly discuss and educate with passion. AMFA is all about the presence of the art and artists. Anthony Meier himself is of vast knowledge and experience. And, through a recent acquisition, I've become more personally acquainted with the staff, all of whom are exceptional professionals. My personal dealings were outstanding on every level, particularly communications. I look forward to future acquisitions through AMFA and a visit to the Gallery's west coast exhibition space. My highest of recommendations.

And that big metal gate is a little intimidating. But this hidden gem is more than worth it. The Gothic Revival architecture is a rare treat in San Francisco. And the woman working in the gallery (Kristin) is friendly and knowledgeable, offering useful information when asked, but giving me my space to wander too.

The day of the wedding Christopher and his staff were OUTSTANDING and the space was a perfect set up for the wedding. It was intimate, inviting, festive, and the art was beautiful. All of our guests have told us how much fun they had at our wedding and "what a cool/unique location we chose for our wedding". This is a perfect space for all kinds of parties, meetings, and other small gatherings. It is also a great place to come and check out local art.

All we had was a small shopping bag from the store next door and her small purse, and after looking around and not finding anything, the lady working was waving an empty hanger accusing us of stealing when she was watching us the whole time. After that we felt very uncomfortable and left the store. My girlfriend offered for her to look into our bags but she declined and continued to follow us out the store and stare us down until the crosswalk.

I also wanted to leave a review because I know the artwork was curated through this gallery, and Nikita and the ERIA team had nothing but wonderful things to say about how great they were to work with. I always love supporting local businesses, especially when they're collaborating with other local businesses in the community. After picking up our piece, we spent some time walking through the gallery to see everything else they had on display, and there were so many beautiful pieces. You know when you walk in, and it's just the guy who runs the store and his friend, and its too quiet, and you realize you don't belong there? This was the opposite of that. Well, it was the guy (Zio) and his friends, but they were nice. Very polite but warm. Breezy ocean photos, vibrant photos/art, fanflippintastic T-shirts. I enjoy looking at art and the display piece in the window immediately drew me into the gallery. The current exhibition at the time was paintings by Jeffrey Long. I found myself in awe of his work, standing in front of one piece for many minutes. I had neither the budget nor any background in art or art history, but I knew what I liked when I saw it. I was greeted warmly by the gallery owner, Emebet Korn, and instantly felt the chemistry between us. Emebet is warm, welcoming and incredibly knowable. She made me feel like I was enjoying art with a passionate curator who spoke from the heart. She took the time to speak with me, to share the history and vision of each artist, giving me a finer appreciation of her exhibit, each piece telling a story. She listened when I told her of my limited art background and allowed me to explore the different works with her while offering insight and answers to my many questions. There was no hard sell, she knew that at the time I was not in a position to buy anything, but I was eager to educate myself about art, and to develop an understanding of why I was drawn to some of her pieces so intensely. I thanked her for her time, and she handed me a very expensive gift as I walked out, a hardbound book about the visual history of art. How wonderful to have such an enriching experience that didn't make me feel like I was out of my league. Sixteen months have passed since that first visit, and I have recently acquired my sixth piece of art!!! I love the ever-changing displays, about every 4 to 6 weeks, often featuring emerging as well as established artists, all brilliant in their way, giving you a reason to visit the gallery many times each year. She showcases a range of contemporary artists, and the gallery makes use of its space in a thoughtful and flowing manner. She hosts frequent artist receptions, highlighting socially relevant themes in an inviting atmosphere. You can meet the local artists as well as socialize with people who all have an appreciation for art, but without that pretentiousness, one can feel in galleries that are only out to make money, designed for the tourist, purely run as a business with no personalized relationship. The events allow for learning, innovation, and conversation, passionately and chatting with artists allows for a full understanding of what inspired each piece. Emebet cares about the community, the environment, animal and human welfare, and is deeply involved in spreading the word through fundraising events. Whatever the time of day, Desta Gallery is worth checking out. Because of Emebet's connections worldwide, if you have a theme in mind or a piece you're in search of, she will find it for you. She has done this for me on two occasions. What I've learned about acquiring art it, is that it's important to build a lasting relationship with the owner, one that allows for a strong connection as well as trust. Desta is now the only place I will purchase art, not to mention that it's in a fabulous location in one of the nicest places to shop in Marin County.

For 250+ dollars. What a joke. And to make it worse, the woman I presume is the owner is rude and does not like kids. Needless to say, not only will I not be purchasing from here but will tell everyone I know what a poor experience I had on multiple occasions.
