We ended up driving to a different location in South Bend to do business. I have never had anyone just walk away to check text messages in the middle of a conversation, but the employees said it happens constantly. There are too many other locations, and options, nearby to tolerate such unprofessional behavior. Great paint, but they should get rid of management who clearly don't care about the bottom line.

I came in recently intent on light gray for my living room. I asked what they thought when I showed them my chair fabric and they immediately picked out a light creamy beige with gray undertones and I was amazed that it was perfect. I had the same experience a few years ago with my bedroom and they found the perfect color to compliment my bedspread. Douglas & Sons is a Kalamazoo institution.

I tell you what, the associate "Mike" was extremely knowledgable, friendly and kind. Recommended a paint that I used solely on his recommendation- Wife loved it and will be going back for more and for future projects. The prices are a bit higher then other Lowes,not sure about Menards, but for the piece of mind, that these guys know there stuff and have used the product, its well worth it. The staff was friendly and attentive and the customer service is much better than you would get at a retailer like Lowes but the guarented paint matching was off and ended up ruining my walls. I ended up having to paint an entire room rather than just a wall because the color did not match. They pride themselves in their color matching and training of staff to do this but I didn't have the best of luck with that. The paint was good but super thick, way thicker than I've ever seen. This is possibly what makes a great paint, but it required so much more than usual and was more work to get it to stick to the walls.

When I wanted to buy Sherwin-Williams paint my husband was like, I bet we can find it cheaper. I wanted their colors. After we were done painting my husband put leftover paint in the basement. In 2012 our dog knocked over a lamp and gouged the wall beside the couch, we said we'd live with it until we decided to repaint. Fast forward to November 2025. We had to repair around a window. My husband decided we might as well repair the wall while we are at it. Two different colors. We had both colors in the basement. The color from the lamp damage he had mixed up in a small bottle and he thought this is never going to work. Both are painted and our house looks brand new. When we do decide to paint the house again I will once more be traveling to the Sherwin-Williams store on M-43 in Kalamazoo.

Even though the number of employees greatly outnumbered the customers, nobody seemed very interested in helping me locate my item. First, they told me that they were in the building so I went and searched through the buildings didn't find them. I went back to check in and was told: they're here somewhere, you just have to look around. Keep in mind this is a huge place. I walked around the outdoor garden center multiple times looking at every tag of every fern and not finding what they said they had in stock. I had to seek out help from multiple workers. Most gave vague answers and were disinterested. There was one attentive employee, she said it was her first day so even though she was willing to help, she didn't know about the inventory and where items were. So frustrating! I'm here. I'm ready to purchase, but nobody can point me to the item that they said they had in stock that I would like to purchase. I probably won't come back. What a time dump. I still don't even know if they actually have my item in stock. The staff seems very confused about their inventory and not super eager to help customers.
