I have seen Dr. O'Melveny for at least 5 years. She is kind, patient, a great listener, and attentive to your health. She is also honest.

My experience with Dr. Womack-Batzdorf ultimately met my practical needs, but it was not one that I…read moreregard positively. She appears to be knowledgeable and competent, and I believe her initial clinical impressions of my symptoms may very well have been accurate. She also ordered the lab work I requested, which I appreciated. However, what stayed with me most was not the medical advice itself, but how I felt during the interaction. I left feeling patronized, judged, and disappointed by what I experienced as a lack of empathy and consideration in her tone and demeanor. There is nothing wrong with being direct, and I understand that physicians may disagree with a patient's own interpretation of their symptoms. But those conversations can still be handled with warmth, curiosity, and compassion--especially in a primary care setting where patients often arrive feeling vulnerable or anxious. My impression was that the communication style lacked that sense of empathy. Rather than leaving the appointment feeling informed and supported, I left feeling emotionally deflated and without any particularly meaningful insight beyond having my requested lab work ordered. I don't believe Dr. Womack-Batzdorf is a bad doctor or a bad person. She may simply have a communication style that works better for some patients than others. For me, though, the interaction left me feeling unheard and emotionally sensitive at a time when I was seeking both medical guidance and compassionate care.

I needed to see someone before the next appt with my Dr was available, as I was having some medical issues that needed immediate attention. She was dismissive, uncaring, without any compassion or empathy. As one other reviewer here wrote, it was like talking to a wall. At one point, I held back from asking if I had offended her in some way, but I don't think I did, I was answering all of her questions and would have been HAPPY to get some support and help with my condition. Her total lack of empathy left me feeling like the appt was a total imposition for her. My 2 issues were clearly stated in my appt request and with the person who made the appt with her, and she seemed irritated to have to deal with 2 issues, not just a single issue. Both needed attention, and she wanted to move on quickly because she didn't seem to have the time or desire to explain what she thought might be happening. I walked out with referrals, which is appreciated, but I will never go back to her, and I would warn anyone who wants someone with a listening and compassionate ear to steer clear. I mentioned that I was scared, and she didn't even take a moment to address that fear, either to confirm it or allay any fears. No thanks, never returning to her care.

I have a complicated medical history spread among many doctors, and Sarah quickly became the nerve center of my network of care. I sent her all my records and updated her on everything that was happening, and I was able to trust her to be the one looking at the big picture of my health. I think this is what primary care is actually supposed to be like! As a doctor, Sarah has many qualities that built my trust. She treated me like an adult, listening thoughtfully, explaining issues at the right level of detail, giving me both her recommendation and the information I needed to decide for myself. She stays up to date on the latest science and gives evidence-based advice. She's not afraid to say when she doesn't know something offhand, and quickly follows up with expert research. She has a great network of specialists and referred me to a number of excellent practitioners. On lifestyle issues, she struck a good balance between meeting me where I was, and giving me a push to take care of myself better. And on sensitive topics, her calm, straightforward, non-judgmental demeanor made me feel comfortable. Working with Sarah has had a major long-term positive impact on my health and quality of life. Strongly recommend.
