This is yet another cafe that I was so happy to be introduced when last visiting home.
With its hole-in-the-wall setup, like many other places in Porto, I never even went inside - and that is one of the many great things about this place!
First impression - you see several tables set up outside overlooking the river, and a grill in its full glory. As the weather couldn't have been nicer, the place was packed, but unlike what is expected, there was no wait time whatsoever! People came in and out at a pretty steady pace which made it all the more enjoyable.
Also, the view certainly doesn't hurt in this place (see pictures).
As soon as we sat down, our water cups followed and the daily specials (most of them freshly caught fish, as in, that morning!)
There is no better fish than in our coast, therefore, my choice was simple - gilt-head bream.
I know there was no wrong choice, but boy, was that just what I needed!
They grill your order right in front of you (beware of the hair smell you'll carry on for the new few hours), and make sure you are happy with its cooking before serving it on the plate.
The gilt-head bream was delicious, as is to be expected, cooked to perfection, with their "secret" sauce, boiled potatoes, and a S*** ton of olive oil.
We were also served a few glasses of wine as they are part of their daily lunch special.
And this is where it gets even better - a bowl of soup, an entree of either grilled fish or meat, any drink (alcohol included), and a coffee (ALL OF THIS) for 5,50 euros = around $6!!!
I can't wait to go back to this gem!! read more
