They ended up offering me $18,500 for my car, which seemed a little low, so I decided to sell it on my own. I continued checking the Elliff website looking for a truck. The following week they listed a car just like mine, 1 year newer but with more miles and less options. The blue book value on my car was higher by $500. This car was listed at $26,900. So now I know they pay about 70% of their list price on vehicles. I went back to Elliff in June 2014 ready to purchase a truck. I reminded the salesman of my previous visit and the car listed the week after. I was looking at a truck they had listed at $27,900, which I assume they paid around $19,500 for. I told the salesman this and offered him $23,000 for the truck. His manager refused to even counter-offer and they became somewhat rude at that point. Obviously they don't like people knowing their margins, as it affects their profits. Well, now you all know their margins as well, and will hopefully use that knowledge to your advantage. I guess this dealership must be under different management compared to when my grandfather was a customer, as I definitely did not have the same positive experiences he did. My suggestion would be to visit Cardenas or Frank Smith as they seem to have much better deals on used vehicles, and their salesman are also much more laid back.
