According to staff reports and community awareness, these concerns have been raised more than once and are not new. What's deeply troubling is the pattern of response. Instead of a permanent resolution, the approach has reportedly been temporary suspensions followed by reinstatement--after which similar concerns continue to surface. If accurate, that is not a meaningful safeguard but rather a cycle. When an organization is aware of repeated allegations involving minors and continues to allow the same individual back into that environment, it raises serious questions about judgment, oversight, and priorities. At a minimum, it suggests a failure to put adequate protections in place for staff. This is not about one incident--it is now a repeated pattern with clear evidence that the executive director and board do not care about the safety of the young women they employ. Anyone considering employment here, or parents with kids working here, should be asking very direct questions about how harassment is addressed and what protections actually exist in practice. The parl district's mandated sexual harassment training for their staff while doing nothing to protect them from harassment from their precious paying members. Wow, what a great place! We took the kids here the other day for a respite from the heat and some fun in the sun. I thought that we'd end up staying a couple of hours but we were there all day. Our kids had a blast there's so much to do inside and outside for little people, and they both fell asleep in their car seats on the way home. Thanks for a great day. I had been to the Aquatics Center for a seminar in one of their meeting rooms, but never the pool itself. Recently my cousins rented the whole place out for a birthday party. I was impressed. We had the entire pool room to ourselves, with two giant pools, one shallow for the kids with a slide, and the other with lanes for more serious lap swimming. They also have a large hot tub which I enjoyed immensely. There was room for our food, gifts and seating all in view of the pools, and their locker rooms, showers and restrooms were well maintained. The doors lead out to a nice patio area in the back, where there are outdoor pools and beautiful scenery. I'm sure we were inside because it had rained that day. I don't know what my cousins paid for this private event on a weekend, but it was worth it. Fun was had by all. read more

Open swim is a nightmare. The pool is filled to capacity. My daughter paid $56 for her 2 toddlers and herself and we had to leave. The bigger kids are wild and there's absolutely no room for the little kids. Additionally they charged me $14 to sit on the pool deck. Overall, an awful experience! read more

I was in town from New York and was able to walk in and swim laps in the indoor pool. The staff was very efficient and friendly and were quick to check me in. The place is very clean and I was even able to sit in the hot tub after. The cost wad very reasonable at $12 and there is a big parking lot. I would definitely recommend this spot and I hope to come back. read more

This review is solely for the playground. The playground equipment is nothing out of the ordinary, but the reason why I like this particular park is because there is a lot of SHADE! So parents and caregivers can just relax and watch their kids play and not be beaten down by the hot Midwestern sun. It's so nice. Actually, there is a pretty neat feature about the playground, and that is the rolly slide. It's like a slide that looks like a conveyer belt, but instead of a belt it's made of rolling tubes. Oak Brook Rec Center Review This place is awesome! Our family came to celebrate our grandmother's 90th birthday during the summer 2021. There was something for everyone. Our family of 35 people ranging in age from 3 months to 90 yrs thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The kiddos played in the indoor water park area most of the time while the grown ups enjoyed the covered picnic tables outside playing cards and cut chatting. Our group of young adults made their way over to the indoor basketball courts for some young adult time. We arrived at 11am and left at closing at 4pm. In terms of food we brought our own potluck style lunch however there are vending machines including the kids' favorite, the ice cream bar vending machine. Last but not least the staff were amazing especially Katie at the front desk who patiently took our family photo! read more

I come her for my sons swim lessons and was very rudely treated by the front desk attendant. Some grumpy old man behind the counter was very disrespectful and demeaning talking down to me and I did not appreciate that! I was asking some questions, and right away had a chip on his shoulder the minute I started asking the question. There were other people that were around working side by side that continued to allow this person to talk down to me acting as though I was invisible or not important. So I ended up here on one of those hot ass days this Summer because it popped up on a search I was doing for splash pads. And from the search it appeared this was a free one but I got there to find out I was very wrong! The building as a whole was SUPER nice, clean, fresh and upscale feeling. So walking into the building, which the sign outside said I had to to get to the splash pad, I instantly loved the feel of it. Then I walked up to the desk to be greeted by a semi-friendly lady working behind it. I asked which way we had to go to the splash pad and she then informed me that it was not free. Oh. But since I already dragged M&M around the building and back, I decided to just pay and go in. The lady told me that it was going to be $20+ dollars (don't remember the exact amount) and I was floored!! She then informed me that we had access to the indoor pool as well with the admission fee. That made it a little better but I still felt like I got ripped! Overall, the splash pad was just okay, the indoor pool was nice but not spectacular but the workout rooms/equipment was super nice from what I could see. Maybe down the line if I could afford a gym membership there, that would be something I would consider, but to pay $20+ for 2 hours of fun with the boys...no thanks! read more

The facility here is beautiful. My wife and I went for a tour because we were very interested in taking our 2 year old son to swim on the weekends. We would of gladly signed up, but were told that the open swim in the really nice children's area does not open until noon on Saturday AND Sunday and closes at 5pm both days If you have kids and are interested in this place, most of you know that your kids need a nap from around 11am to 3-4pm based on how the day is going. Simply put, the place is beautiful, but sort of pointless if you have a child on a nap schedule who has to be sleeping in the early to late afternoon. When I asked why they do it this way, I was told they have swimming lessons on the weekend. Swimming lessons with a very long wait line. Sigh.... Now, I do not know about you, but the amount of revenue they make on swimming lessons cannot possibly exceed the amount of revenue they are turning away from people with kids that do not buy memberships because of their odd hours. If someone from the district is reading this, please consider at least making one day on the weekend open during the morning hours or extending your afternoon hours so that the facility can be more practical to use for a normal family. By not being open in the morning you shut out any family with a child that is under 3. They are also shutting out the older kids who have brothers or sisters that are younger and need to be at home sleeping. And if you cannot do mornings, why do you close at 5pm? I mean at least be open until 6pm so that a family can get their child up and enjoy an hour or two before you close. Again. Very nice facility. VERY poor planning on the hours of operation. read more

I love my park district. It has an indoor track which is so helpful since I am limited to walking (29 weeks preggo) and my hubby loves to run. The people at the front desk are nice and they offer an array of classes that you can take. My hubby has private swim classes with Jason to train for the triathlon. Jason is very knowledgeable and makes it easy for my hubby to learn better swim techniques. I have never seen this place too packed in the work out part of the building. Every machine or free weights that I can use are open. I can't wait for my baby girl to have birthdays here, I've seen a few and they look like fun. Prices are phenomenal. My hubby and I pay for a couple membership for the same price as a single membership at Lifetime Fitness. read more

Good facilities, the service, however is subpar. A few ladies at the front desk have a slight attitude and stare at you like you said something in a foreign language when you ask them a question. The classes are good and the instructors are all very nice and friendly. There is no way, however, to convey to members if a class is cancelled. They need to set up the website so people can check for any cancellations. I've rushed from work to a class only to find out it was cancelled. I just recently called them to see if they would be holding classes Christmas Eve, but no one knew. Thus, they are not very up to date with their technology. They also move around classes a lot without telling the members. Shouldn't there be an electronic way to get this information to people?? Most of the fitness classes are during the weekdays, so if you work, forget about it. There are some classes starting at 6pm (can you make it if you work downtown?) and on the weekend. My contract expires next year, and it's definitely not worth $45 a month, so I will be looking elsewhere for a gym. EDIT: Looks like they are trying to weed out the Bollywood/Bhangra Beats class . What's the purpose of having this class and Zumba at the same time on the same day? First they added a Zumba class on Thursday on the same day, and now they have changed the Zumba class on Saturday from 11am to 10am, to coincide with the Bhangra class, which very few people attend now. Pretty stupid logic if you ask me to have two dance classes on the same day. All in all, your class choices has been severely limited. read more

My daughter take swim lessons here for the summer and she and I both absolutely love it. Parking is plentiful and close. The facility is clean (which is an absolute deal breaker for me if it's not) and very well maintained. The locker rooms are spacious with ample showers and dressing/changing areas. The pool is very large, with different sections for various types of classes and for play. The instructors are nice and VERY patient with the kids. The lessons are broken down into different age groups and skill levels. Once your child age out of one group, they go to the next level. I like that It's a continuous swimming/learning curriculum. It's very well organized. The swimming pool supervisor makes sure that the pool stays orderly and while swimming lessons are going on no one can be in the pool unless they are a part of a lesson group. The price is very affordable, even for non-residents like myself. They have an additional pool and splash area with slides outside you can use for an additional fee, which can be expensive if you have multiple children ($12 adult - $8 kid if you're not a resident of OB) After the last group of swimming lessons (noon) they allow the kids to stay in the pool for open swim/play. This will be our preferred park district for swimming lessons. read more

Checked out the aquatic center for the first time today. The cost was $20 for non-residents which was decent. I was immediately turned off to the place by the woman at the front desk though. I greeted her with a smile and a "good afternoon" and explained it was our first time there. She literally acted as if she was being inconvenienced taking our money and didn't even offer us a towel or point out where they were (so we never got one). The actual place was crowded and a bunch of campers (from the same PD) came in with very little supervision. My daughter ended up enjoying her time outside once the crowds died down but the inside was very boring. read more

The OB Park District facility is both well-equipped and well-maintained. We've always found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. Training for a half-marathon is REALLY boring on a treadmill, and I'll admit that I'm just not hardcore enough to run outside in the kind of heat we've been experiencing this summer. The indoor track resolves my athletic conundrums. Amen. Our eldest son takes private swimming lessons here, which are surprisingly affordable and obviously effective - TJ had our little man swimming in 8 sessions! We're so happy with the indoor pool/slide, that we booked a swimming party package (also very reasonably priced) for his upcoming birthday. I have been a patron of the Oak Brook Park District for fifteen years! The staff is friendly and accommodating, especially for those (children and adults) that have special needs. The staff that works with those that need extra assistance is absolutely outstanding, and compassionate. The atmosphere is beautiful, and everyone is very friendly. Overall they keep the facility clean, and tidy. The pool is a blast, especially for kids, and the water slide is a huge hit! It's also been nice that there is a place to lay out outside since the splash pad has opened! If you're a resident of Oak Brook it is a great place to belong as an alternative to country clubs, as those can become rather cliquey! I'd recommend the Oak Brook Park District to all ages and ability levels, there is something for everyone there!! read more

Doesn't it seem like we just got thru with last winter? So thank god for Oak brook's indoor running track - outdoor running this year, with the frigid temps and mucho snow, is not working for me. I've been faithfully running here all winter, at various times during the day and evening, and I've yet to find it crowded. Mostly senior citizen walkers, who use the inside lane, and a couple of runners, who all are very courteous and down to business. The track is cushioned, so my knees feel fantastic even after running an hour. And, it's surrounded by windows and a beautiful park/woodsy area in Oak Brook, so I can gaze outside while running. They did raise the daily fee for non-residents to $4 but that is still a bargain. So, here's hoping summer gets here fast, but at least I'll be in shape for the outdoor season and summer clothes! read more

The Oak Brook Park District Family Aquatic Center is fantastic! I took my special education classroom here for a field trip. The manager, Joel Schick, answered my many questions beforehand and helped us plan our field trip. On the day of the field trip, all staff members were helpful since we were unfamiliar with this park district. Many of my students are nonverbal and/or were adjusting to the change in environment. We were treated like any other park district member. All of my staff members and the student's families appreciated it! This is the only place I have ever taken my children, that charges parents (full adult admission $11) to sit in the snack area and watch their children swim! When I asked why they charge parents to sit and watch their kids, they said it is because of "occupancy rates" They said they can't exceed the maximum number of people allowed in the pool area. So when I asked them how many people were there now they had no idea! I could understand if this was a water park or some type of facility that they could not keep track of people who "sneak in" but come on its a park district pool! On top of that if you have a birthday party there and parents want to stay to keep an eye on their kids THEY WILL CHARGE YOU $10 FOR EVERY PARENT WHO STAYS!! best part they don't tell you that until after the party! It is just morally WRONG to charge people for nothing. There is no family locker room and they let boys in first grade and older come in with their moms. When I mentioned that my second grade daughter did not want her male classmates to see her naked they couldn't understand why and didn't care about setting a 5 and under age limit. Nice facility, but crappy staff. Went to lifeguard office and found 4 women sitting around gossiping and laughing. I let them know that all the TP in the women's restroom was out and the woman who responded said "Great! Thanks, I'll get someone over right away." First, no, it's not great because all the TP in all stalls were out, which means you and your crew haven't been doing your jobs all day and you have people going back into the pool without wiping themselves. Second, your lack of embarrassment and remorse for being lazy and not doing your paid job is obnoxious. Third, 25 min later all the TP was still out!! The bathroom trash bins were all full and to still not have TP on top of this is unacceptable for the amount charged for this facility. Everything should be spotless. The babysitters do not follow directions. The place is absolutely filthy. OBPD has not made any effort to improve programming, clean facilities or improve staff customer service. I have take my children to Oak Brook Aquatic Center for swim lessons. The facility is nice, but their registration process is frustrating, especially for non-residents. I understand that Oak Brook residents get priority to classes, which I don't have an issue with. But, non-residents sign up online and then wait and wait to be notified whether or not they made it into the classes. They only allow you to pick one time slot (I'd be open to any time slots) and online does not represent always what is open. I have thought my children were all registered and never received notification that they were waitlisted...that is until we showed up for the first day of class and was told we were not in it. Email notification never was sent. Great instructors if you do make it in, but again registration is misrepresenting and frustration. They need to improve registration process as well as add more classes for young children. read more
