We knew we would run out of cell service so quickly found Sally and Scott's B&B. It worked out that they had the honeymoon suite available that had its own separate french doors and own bath. Sally had pictures up of her mother in her wedding gown and also some old wedding gowns from brides past. There is a common area downstairs that has a dining room table, fridge, sink, couches and also a library of their personal collection. For breakfast we walked upstairs where we were greeting by the dogs- so friendly and the rest of the people staying there. Breakfast was probably the best ive had in years, bacon, sausage links, jam filled muffins, hash brown casserole, scrambled eggs, spinach quiche, biscuits, coffee and OJ. Both of the owners work at or for chateau morrisette which is a lovely vineyard down the parkway. The decor, people and location really made our anniversary special this year and all of it was unplanned which was the best part! Not only do they have rooms in the home but they also have a couple of rustic cabins that you can stay at on the property with a little more privacy if you wanted it.

He even booked a reservation for the Squad Car Tours for us and the other couple staying there (if you're a fan of the Andy Griffith Show, this is a must). Our room, The Coventry Suite, was great. It looked just like the pictures except it was decorated for Christmas which was a nice touch. The 2 person jacuzzi easily fit my wife and I. The bed was super comfy as well. The location could not be beat. It was only a 5 minute walk to Main Street in downtown Mt Airy. There was a lot of little shops and neat places to check out. I highly recommend this B&B.

Owned by Patti and Bernie Pizinger, this century home was restored by Patti in the early 2000s and has been operating for over 10 years. There are many shared spaces including a library, conservatory and a wonderful side porch complete with a beautiful swing for two. Hot coffee served in a community parlor off the rooms then a three course breakfast iz served in the formal dining room under one of the three elegant Austrian crystal chandelier. This was perhaps the best experience we have had in a B&B in the 25+ years we have been visiting them.

Basically, just check in, relax, sleep, and wake up to a beautiful breakfast (included in the price!). As a side note, the coffee bar was amazing. Absolutely delicious coffee. We were a little nervous that breakfast would be awkward with strangers, but we had a great morning with the other guests! Anyway, We had an amazing time at the Claiborne house. We come to rocky mount a few times a year to visit family and find that the current accommodations around town are very much lacking. I am so glad that we found the Claiborne House. First, the rooms were absolutely adorable. We stayed in the Cottage room which is actually its own tiny building separate from the home nestled in the back garden. Second, This room was extra private and I liked that we were the closest to the back parking lot. Also, There was a bonfire pit in the garden with plenty of seating. This would be a great place to open a bottle of wine and relax with your partner. I recommend the Claiborne house for anyone visiting the local area or anyone from the local area that is just looking for a beautiful, relaxing, getaway!

I guess I kind of thought that a B&B owner would keep checking in, kind of like an overbearing restaurant server. Amy and Matt had a perfect balance of making us feel at home while also giving us privacy. Their house is beautiful! Although it was a large house, it was super cozy. We stayed in the Cottage, which has a private entrance from the parking area as well as a walkway from the main house. And one of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. Amy prepared eggs, potatoes, bacon, homemade pumpkin bread, and homemade rolls. It tasted amazing with some fresh coffee and orange juice - just what we needed before we hit the road for a 4 hour drive. P.S. My only single ~slight~ concern was that the wifi was a little unreliable in the Cottage (BUT to be fair, you should stay off your electronics and enjoy your stay instead of having too much screen time). Again, this was only a tiny concern, this had no influence on lowering my rating... easiest 5 star rating I've ever given. This quaint B&B…read moreis only a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway (maybe 5-8 minutes driving) and about 15-20 minutes drive to the Stone Mountain park. It is out of the way down a long driveway, and most likely you'll be greeted by their super friendly dog, Hunter. Jim and Margaret are great hosts, providing freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and lemonade upon arrival. The check-in process is short and sweet and they are available when you need them, but the place is big enough to give enough privacy despite the community spaces. I surprised my bf for his birthday and we came up just for one night. We stayed in the Yosemite room and it was perfect. The king bed was super comfortable, and the room had a ceiling fan, flat screen tv, electric fireplace (for ambiance and/or for heat), and the bathroom had a shower and a jacuzzi tub. It was right around the corner from the kitchen, so in terms of noise, you do hear the clinging and clanging of cooking and cabinets/drawers closing, but it wasn't a major issue for us. If you're sensitive to noise, then I would suggest getting a room on the second floor instead. Our room leads off to an external entrance to the back balcony/porch area so we could come and go from the back door instead of going through the house/common area which was nice. There is always access to coffee (fresh brewed in the morning or a Keurig for afternoon) and hot water for tea or hot chocolate. Upstairs, there is a small fridge that has complimentary can sodas and bottles of water for guests to have. I put our bottle of champagne there to chill. The highlight of the stay of course was the breakfast promptly served at 8:30a. We woke up to a beautiful spread and shared a nice breakfast with nice conversation with 12 other guests. It was family style, so we passed the food around and around until we were all miserably/happily stuffed. Margaret's famous cinnabuns were really delicious - super sweet and fresh. Overall - Everything was clean and just really done well with nice subtle touches throughout the B&B (ie. light music in the background of the common areas, fresh cut flowers in the bathroom and bedside, foaming bubble bath by the tub with a pillow, several candles in the room to assist with creating a romantic ambiance, super plush robes and Bath & Body Works shower products (soaps, shampoo, etc) to use... We definitely hope to come back and enjoy/relax again in the near future :)

This cozy little cabin has a loft bedroom with one bed and a half bath. Downstairs is a living room that is equipped with a pull out sofa bed, perfect of an eight-year-old. The grey stone fireplace and chimney occupy the center of the structure and are beautiful. The full kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, coffee-maker, cups, coffee, tea and there was a plate of fresh-baked cookies waiting for us on the table when we arrived. Just off the kitchen is a full bathroom with a fantastic Jacuzzi tub. But the piece de resistance: the most perfect "settin' porch" overlooking the creek behind. No kidding, the perfect spot for your morning coffee! In the mornings, we walked up the hill to the main house log home with another amazing porch. The innkeepers make a homemade sumptuous breakfast every morning. On the first morning, there was fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, baked grits. On the second morning, we had shirred eggs with ham, waffles, Moravian sugar bread, fruit salad. We enjoyed the breakfast at a common table with other guests, sharing our stories of our journeys and adventures. Delish!!
