Every room is historical yet modernized enough to provide extreme comfort and a peaceful state of mind. Our host/ chef, Agnes made us feel like we were family. Her culinary skills are amazing as she prepares an delicious breakfast on the weekends. We also hosted a pre wedding cocktail party at the Inn that was catered by Agnes and staffed by Toni and Chelsea, all of whom kept the guests well fed and everyone's glass full throughout the night. They really bent over backwards to accommodate us when my daughter's wedding party utilized the cottage to get ready for the ceremony. Can't say enough about this place. Highly recommend you stay here when you are in town.

So we packed our bags, brought some car games and hit the road. Arriving we didn't see any signs to the Inn so it was a little confusing and weird driving up to the Inn. We were welcomed inside by Keri and she apologized for the confusion and said they were working on signage. Keri was fantastic and first thing she did was show us to our room and took us on a little tour of the place. She gave us a lot of insight onto the house and its previous owners and how old it is. There is so much character and each room and the way they have each of them setup brings our the personality of each room. We were staying in the Wanderlust room and it was a beautiful with a great view of the open grounds next to the estate. It really felt as if we were staying a close friends house for the weekend. Keri kept us engaged, made sure we had anything we wanted, opened up the kitchen to us if we wanted any snacks. And there is nothing like waking up in the morning to have breakfast made for you when you come downstairs. I loved our stay here, we never slept so well, and I thank the comfortable bed for that but, I also think we were made to feel at home by a very friendly innkeeper. I stayed here at this Baymont hotel in Rocky Mount, Virginia for 2 nights in March 2026. I was glad…read morethat there was a brand name hotel in the area and I did have to commute from Roanoke. Baymont hotel is owned by the Wyndham hotel brand, which is synonymous with comfort and economical luxury. It was nice that there is accommodations here in Rocky Mount, Virginia. I found this hotel thru online searching on hotels.com and found the pricing to be favorable. The prices per night was around $100 ish per night, so I booked 2 night here with 2 double beds. The photos on the hotels.com website looked good. Upon arrival at around 645pm on a brisk Friday night, we headed up stairs and entered the room. The reservation was on point and we got our room keys within 3 minutes after checking in with the front desk. Checking out was the same. I just told the front desk that I was checking out and handed back the room key and I was basically all set to go. The front desk staff was friendly and professional. It was a very nice stay here and while we didn't use all the amenities here at the Baymont hotel by Wyndham Rocky Mount, just the comfort of the room and a good night's rest is what matters most. The continental breakfast each morning was good. I really enjoy a hot breakfast served in heated trays says something about the quality of the hotel. On the menu both days were eggs and link sausage. Along with various bread and make your own waffles, you also have your choice of juices and cereal as well. I must have overeaten on the eggs at one point on Saturday morning, but it helped me with my day in Rocky Mount for sure. I believe this hotel is one of the closer hotel properties to Waid community park, which is where some of my other friends were staying the same weekend as I was. The overall experience here at this Baymont Hotel by Wyndham was very nice and comfortable. It has all the hallmarks of a complete and wonderful stay at an affordable price. The hotel itself is small enough to be cozy but large enough to have maybe 75 rooms on 2 floors, complete with ice machines and a space for guest breakfast area. The guest breakfast area was nice, although best to get there early enough to enjoy it before everyone else comes down and swarms the area. My friend and I arrived close to 6am both days and there was quite a bunch of people there. The room itself was good and comfortable. It was clean and typical of what a hotel room would look like. Everything worked well including the tv and the shower, and it was generally okay. For the most part though, my stay here at the Baymont hotel by Wyndham Rocky Mount was good and definitely worth coming back, if my future plans permit me to do so. I don't know if there was a guest elevator here, but I knew we walked up stairs during my stay here. The WiFi was spotty, so I didn't care to really use it during my stay. If you are in the Rocky Mount, Virginia area and want to stay away from Roanoke, consider coming down here to Baymont by Wyndham for your next hotel stay in Southwest Virginia. They'll be glad you stopped by. I know my friend and I did. We had a good amount of rest here both days for sure. Need that rest if you were going to run and survive a 24 hour endurance run nearby. This Baymont hotel by Wyndham is located in Rocky Mount, Virginia. It's physical address is 1730 N Main Street in the heart of Rocky Mount, Virginia. Like the majority of hotels in the industry, they accept online bookings and reservations with a valid credit card. Not sure if they accept bookings with cash, but most people book and pay online these days. As far as parking goes, there is a generous amount of parking stalls around the hotel property to park during your stay here. As far as public transportation goes, there is a way. You take route 26 from the Roanoke airport to the 3rd street bus terminal. Then wait for the Ferrum Express bus, a free shuttle bus service from Ferrum College in Rocky Mount. Not sure how frequently it runs to and from Roanoke, but it's an option. Of course, renting a car is ideal but not required. Uber and Lyft can also help you get you here from wherever you decide to start your adventure to Rocky Mount from. For best results, come here and stay for the evening and have a good nights rest here at the Baymont hotel by Wydham in Rocky Mount. They have pretty good prices, but check ahead online for a good deal. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Probably the closest hotel accommodation to Waid recreational park. Support local! A+

Basically, just check in, relax, sleep, and wake up to a beautiful breakfast (included in the price!). As a side note, the coffee bar was amazing. Absolutely delicious coffee. We were a little nervous that breakfast would be awkward with strangers, but we had a great morning with the other guests! Anyway, We had an amazing time at the Claiborne house. We come to rocky mount a few times a year to visit family and find that the current accommodations around town are very much lacking. I am so glad that we found the Claiborne House. First, the rooms were absolutely adorable. We stayed in the Cottage room which is actually its own tiny building separate from the home nestled in the back garden. Second, This room was extra private and I liked that we were the closest to the back parking lot. Also, There was a bonfire pit in the garden with plenty of seating. This would be a great place to open a bottle of wine and relax with your partner. I recommend the Claiborne house for anyone visiting the local area or anyone from the local area that is just looking for a beautiful, relaxing, getaway!

I guess I kind of thought that a B&B owner would keep checking in, kind of like an overbearing restaurant server. Amy and Matt had a perfect balance of making us feel at home while also giving us privacy. Their house is beautiful! Although it was a large house, it was super cozy. We stayed in the Cottage, which has a private entrance from the parking area as well as a walkway from the main house. And one of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. Amy prepared eggs, potatoes, bacon, homemade pumpkin bread, and homemade rolls. It tasted amazing with some fresh coffee and orange juice - just what we needed before we hit the road for a 4 hour drive. P.S. My only single ~slight~ concern was that the wifi was a little unreliable in the Cottage (BUT to be fair, you should stay off your electronics and enjoy your stay instead of having too much screen time). Again, this was only a tiny concern, this had no influence on lowering my rating... easiest 5 star rating I've ever given. Thanks Amy & Matt (and Braden!) for an incredible mini weekend getaway, we hope to see you soon.

I stayed here for my 31st birthday at the end of April and had a blast. I arranged everything about 1.5 months before with Cathy, one of the rental ladies on-site who lives there part-time and she was very friendly and helpful. I'm from Roanoke originally so SML has always been a place I've loved. Bernard's Landing is nice and secluded but has a very nice on-site restaurant, the grounds are well-maintained, and the gym, sauna, racquetball courts and indoor pool are all very nice and well-kept. We rented a 1-bedroom condo but because they weren't busy we were upgraded to a larger one right on the water for my birthday which was nice. We stayed for 4 days and really just enjoyed the peaceful lake life - it was very relaxing and quiet. We had a nice dinner the night before my birthday at The Landing where I had some yummy seared Ahi Tuna and a large pear salad with house-made vinaigrette. Our service was excellent and their menu offered some very yummy options. We drove about 15 minutes to Bridgewater Marina for lunch one day and rented jet skis. They operate rentals from Bernard's landing but don't begin that until later in the season - around May 15th I believe they told me. Very nearby is a Mexican place called Crazy Horse I think.... we weren't expecting much but it was very nice with a water view off their outdoor patio and fresh food with excellent service. They're building up the neighborhoods surrounding Bernard's Landing with several nice developments so I suspect traffic will pick up considerably once they finish the 100-200 houses that might be going in. We will def. come back and might make it a birthday tradition.
