Are you new to BnB's? We were complete newbies when we decided to make our reservation, so don't worry! The Hostess put us at ease and let us know how everything works. Basically, just check in, relax, sleep, and wake up to a beautiful breakfast (included in the price!). As a side note, the coffee bar was amazing. Absolutely delicious coffee. We were a little nervous that breakfast would be awkward with strangers, but we had a great morning with the other guests! Anyway, We had an amazing time at the Claiborne house. We come to rocky mount a few times a year to visit family and find that the current accommodations around town are very much lacking. I am so glad that we found the Claiborne House. First, the rooms were absolutely adorable. We stayed in the Cottage room which is actually its own tiny building separate from the home nestled in the back garden. Second, This room was extra private and I liked that we were the closest to the back parking lot. Also, There was a bonfire pit in the garden with plenty of seating. This would be a great place to open a bottle of wine and relax with your partner. I recommend the Claiborne house for anyone visiting the local area or anyone from the local area that is just looking for a beautiful, relaxing, getaway! read more

This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast - Amy and Matt made an incredible first impression of B&Bs for us. I guess I kind of thought that a B&B owner would keep checking in, kind of like an overbearing restaurant server. Amy and Matt had a perfect balance of making us feel at home while also giving us privacy. Their house is beautiful! Although it was a large house, it was super cozy. We stayed in the Cottage, which has a private entrance from the parking area as well as a walkway from the main house. And one of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. Amy prepared eggs, potatoes, bacon, homemade pumpkin bread, and homemade rolls. It tasted amazing with some fresh coffee and orange juice - just what we needed before we hit the road for a 4 hour drive. P.S. My only single ~slight~ concern was that the wifi was a little unreliable in the Cottage (BUT to be fair, you should stay off your electronics and enjoy your stay instead of having too much screen time). Again, this was only a tiny concern, this had no influence on lowering my rating... easiest 5 star rating I've ever given. I spent the weekend at the Claiborne with my husband and we were extremely pleased! The new owner, Robin, was attentive, informative and knowledgeable about places to visit, the history of the town and its attractions. The environment was warm and friendly!! We drove up to the Claiborne House this past weekend and were welcomed with the most amazing breakfast. While everything was delicious, I had a second serving of the quiche which may have been the best I've ever had. That coupled with homemade cinnamon rolls and bread, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit and a large cup of coffee made for a great start to the day. The accommodations were lovely, large comfy beds with soft sheets, blankets and pillows and a really spacious bathroom. In the afternoon we were served a platter of chocolate banana bread and assorted homemade cookies and desserts. We spent the afternoon walking around the gardens and rocking on the front porch, which was every bit as relaxing as it sounds. We finally ended the evening with a dinner of burgers, Cajun tator tots and fried pickles just down the road at Bsides. We had a wonderful weekend and will definitely return. read more

The new owners, Amy and Matthew have southern hospitality down. We were extremely comfortable in the Blue Room. Quiet, clean, and tastefully decorated. Breakfast was delicious. Amy was flexible with our need to get on the road early (sad for us because we would have liked to socialize around the table a bit longer). This is among the nicest B&B's we have ever stayed in. NEWLY REOPENED 2018 UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. Amy and Matt are fantastic hosts, and the house has all new furnishings. I stayed in the Cottage, a lovely, small, private building adjacent to the main house. It even has its own patio. Small, thoughtful touches like snacks and water in the room. Amy could not have been more accommodating. The Claiborne was closed for 2 years, but Amy and Matt, the new owners, have worked hard to refresh everything. Give the place a chance! I generally do not write bad reviews for hotels or inns, but I would have to say this is the worst inn experience I have ever had. The owners of the inn were some of the rudest people I have ever encountered. After driving the whole day the day before and feeling sick, I decided to sleep in a little the next morning, and a friend informed the owners I could not make it down to breakfast. The owners took extreme offense to this, and ended up coming up to my room to personally note their displeasure. Shellie was extremely ungracious, even though I had never interacted with her before that moment. They then charged me a frivolous fee, to add insult to injury. For those travelers who expect their stay at inn to be friendly, carefree, and relatively flexible, I would not recommend this inn. While the inn itself is pretty and clean, the owners are not accommodating and take easy offense to small things. Essentially, this inn's business model is that the customer comes last. read more
