This is still an active cemetery with just a handful of graves on it with much more room for future residents. There is an access point on Caldwell Lane, but unfortunately it looks like someone just drove right through the gate destroying it. There is no sign denoting the name of the cemetery but there is another cemetery nearby called Comanche Cemetery North. Considering its location I was surprised to see that the grass was well mowed and the graves were well tended. However being such a small cemetery there is no road of any sort leading into it so you'll just have to park just past the gate. The primary name that I could find here was Haws and in the corner of the cemetery is a large oak tree that obscures some fallen older gravestones. I did not spot any historical names here, unlike the nearby Hainy Church cemetery. It should be pointed out that just a couple hundred feet south of the cemetery lie additional headstones in a field along Caldwell. However, they are not as easily seen because this field is overgrown with weeds and the graves don't appear to be cared for. There's not a whole lot to see at this site, but there's room enough to make it your forever home.

This is still an active cemetery with plenty of room for more decedents and the most recent graves are from 2022. The cemetery is easily accessed and has a dirt lane that circles the cemetery. It occupies roughly about 4 acres and most of the burials have taken place in the last 50 years. There are quite a number of service members buried here, but I did not find any WWI vets. One other thing you notice is that almost every grave is adorned with flowers and personal trinkets. This is still an active cemetery with many recent interments with plenty of room left. Quite a number of the headstones have porcelain photographs of the decedents. The majority of the headstones appear to be Hispanic in origin. I did not spot any headstones that went back before 1930. There is no Texas historical sign or informational kiosk at this location. Should you decide to make this your forever home, the photos included might help with your choice.

The sign pictured below will tell you more than I can say. This is still an active cemetery with some recent interments. Many of the graves are still adorned by visiting family members. There is a gravel lane that runs through the property and there is space to park outside the entrance. The cemetery itself is not especially very orderly with graves appearing to be randomly located around the property, but there are some family plots. There's also a mix of new and old markers along with those cast in concrete and a number of graves with no marker other than the one left by the funeral home. Still plenty of room for future interments, but there is no information on the property. You'll have to check with the Mount Olive church which sits close by. Informative photos and video included.

There's quite a few stones that have weathered away so badly that they can't even be read. There was a couple of headstones from the late 1800s but most are from the 20th century. This is still an active cemetery, although there's very little room left. With all of the loud traffic directly next to the cemetery, I would not call it a peaceful rest place. This burial ground is a wonderful, beautiful, natural wooded area with wildflowers, winding tree…read moreshaded hiking trails, and natural stones marking the graves. Ellen takes excellent care of the grounds, information, and families. The information that animals are buried in this wooded park is openly advertised so it stands to reason that if you purchase a plot in an area where animals may be buried, you may expect to have an animal buried near your plot. This burial park is so peaceful and lovely, I purchased my plot today.

I looked for information on Mortuaries and cremation for the Smithville and Bastrop area. I talked to many of the places and eventually settled on Gipson Pendergrass-People's. They are a tiny family style place. They took care of everything. They did not try to pressure me into buying extras or add ons. Not only that... they went out of their way to help our family with many aspects of the funeral process like helping us with the burial insurance, setting up the honor guard for the funeral, handling the cremation process quickly, and even going out of their way to work with my father and step mothers local pastor to set everything up. I just can't say enough great things about them.

Most of the graves that sit within this 2 to 3 acre enclosure are primarily from the 20th century and later. There are a handful of stones from the 1800s. This is still a very active cemetery with many well adorned gravesites from the surviving family members. The cemetery looks relatively well-maintained although a handful of older headstones are lying on their sides. There is still some space for future interments, but it is mostly full. There are three entrances to the property with a single gravel lane winding through the property. For the most part the graves are laid out in neat rows and some family plot areas, but there is still a little bit of randomness in some of the graves as to how they fit in. I did spot three historical names here that are tied to Austin/Round Rock history. There were several graves dedicated to the name Gattis (Gattis School Rd) and Boatright and at least one to Bohls. The Boatright name seemed to be the most prominent name in the cemetery. Two other names that I found in number here are Templeton and Summers. There are some service members buried here along with 3 confederate soldiers, 2 of them are of the Boatright name. If you're looking for a forever home or just want to check out some names of history, this place is worth a visit.
