I work in Marketing for a large corporation out of DFW that does lots of business with several full-service print and packaging vendors, so I understand the value in utilizing a local print shop for printing needs. Their attention to detail/color management, quality standards and the machinery they have are much better than places that don't specialize in art prints like OfficeMax/Depot, CVS, etc. So I knew I wanted to use a local shop when printing the cupcake toppers for my daughter's birthday party even though it was an extremely small job (literally just 4 pages of cardstock). Mike had my order done within 10 minutes and refused to charge me for it since it was so small of a job. I felt bad, but he wouldn't take any payment even after I insisted. I thought that was so kind and spoke volumes about his character. As a designer, there's not much better than been able to work with a high-quality print shop that pays attention to detail and produces high quality work. Fast turnaround time, great pricing, and close proximity to my office makes for great icing on the cake. Chain printing shops just can't compare. Mike has always done a great job for me, even on short notice. He was able to do a small printing/cutting job this week for Baby Shower invitations and Thank-you cards that my wife is coordinating even though he was in the middle of the course-packet printing rush for local schools. I just got all my "stuff" here for setting up my new business. I got lovely professional letterhead on recycled paper, envelopes and beautiful business cards and I love them. This is a great "ma and pa" establishment, except that "ma and pa" are quite young and determined to make a go of a pretty old-fashioned business in a refreshing way. When you walk in, there is an old printing press in the corner which makes you think one of their parents must have been a printer. These are really nice people who will take good care of you. They personally helped me pick paper and fonts. Then they set it up and sent me mock-ups for approval before they printed it up, so I could change my mind a couple of times before finalizing it. All this only took a couple of days until the whole thing was ready for pick-up. It all turned out lovely. This was 100 times better than my experience getting business cards at office depot. I know its tempting to just fill out the Office Depot forms. However, you won't get personal service, your lay-out will be extremely limited, unless you spend a lot, mine took about 2 weeks and then they never called me when they were in and I had to just keep going in and checking. The final product was beyond crappy and I ended up not using any of these cards. Your cards and letterhead are part of your first impression so I think you should really make them count.
