Dr. Engels wife Tiffanie took over. The most miserable woman on the planet. It's very sad. What was once what I described in my former review as "the dental Shangri La" is now the dungeon of hell. I have been very ill. My BP has been running 200/120. THIS is hypertensive critical and death defining. I asked Tiffanie to please provide me with my medical records with attatched afadavit to authenticate them for legal reasons and her reply was, "that's not my job and I'm busy". She was rude, belligerent and unkind actually sub human. Since Engel Dental Institute is not a corporation and has no medical records custodian it is the responsibility of the doctor in charge or the office manager. Since Tiffanie is Engels wife she holds herself up on a pedestal and not subject to anything she does not want to do. Not even to save a life. So as the court suggests that I bypass her and Subpoena Dr. Engel and hold him accountable and file a formal complaint with the North Carolina dental board. Dr. Engel has no choice but to comply with the court. If he does not he will be held in contempt and face jail time with hefty monetary fines. Doctors believe they are above the law and don't have to abide with anything. Wrong! This time that will not happen. Please beware of this medical practice and if u were a satisfied client you will be putting yourself in a dangerous scenario. Consider going elsewhere. What was once a place of hope is now a place of sorrow.

I was fresh out of college at 21…read moreand found a Groupon for a teeth cleaning & exam, which was wonderful because I was in the interim that I didn't have insurance. So, I bought the Groupon and went to see him that week. I was immediately impressed. Heather, the office manager, was so friendly and made me feel comfortable. At the time, Lauren was my hygienist (she's since moved after getting married) and she was so sweet, gentle, and thorough. Then I got to finally meet Dr. Martin after my cleaning. He was wonderful - to the point, but still since and cared. A question on the intake form was something like "If you can change anything about your smile, what would it be?" I wrote that I had always hated the tiny gap in my front two teeth (it was very small, but I didn't like it or my front four teeth really. I had considered veneers, but all other dentists told me "oh you'd need braces first to correct your bite (as my teeth sat right on top of each other - not any overbite at all) and THEN veneers to avoid potentially chipping them." Well, Dr. Martin told me I didn't need braces because my teeth were straight and he could do veneers easily and make it to were the bite wasn't flush on top of my bottom teeth but a small overbite (a regular bite, if you will). I got scheduled to get the process started the next week and I had a brand new smile 2 weeks later. He made my smile everything is ever wanted and he took his time. My first visit for the veneers was a late appointment and the office itself closed but he had no issue working 2 hours past close to give me exactly what I wanted. To this day, everyone at the practice is wonderful. It's a small practice - Dr. Martin, a handful of hygienists, Heather, and Kim (his wife) - but it's a beautiful, clean practice with a wonderful team. You can tell everyone loves their jobs there and are very happy. I have referred several people to him. I was working as a night shift nurse, just got off duty and went straight to my cleaning appointment scheduled for 9:30. Well, when I went in for my appointment I apparently grabbed my nursing bag and not my purse (which I had put my keys in). At 9:45 I go back to my car to sleep 5 hours and go back to work. I realized I locked my keys in the car or left them in the office. I go back inside to check and without any hesitation, Kim (Dr. Martin's wife) called AAA for me and told them I was her daughter who had locked myself out so I wouldn't have to pay for a locksmith since I didn't have AAA. She then took me to an empty exam room, made it dark and tucked me in with a blanket and told me to sleep and she'd wake me when they got my car unlocked. She didn't have to do ANY of that...that's just the type of people they are. She didn't ask "how can I help?" - she just jumped in and made my bad situation just go away. I responded back to the email at 4:14 pm asking to reschedule for the following week because it was my daughter's last week of school and also because my husband was out of town and I had my toddler who would be disruptive in their office. I received a text message at 7:49 am on May 29th stating that we had an appointment and they were wondering if we were on the way. I informed her that I sent an email asking to reschedule. She stated that I didn't cancel within 48 hours so they had to charge me $50 cancelled appointment fee. I wasn't trying to cancel - I was trying to reschedule. My biggest problem with this is the predatory nature of these fees. If you are going to charge someone for cancelling, you should remind the patient/client in enough time for them to cancel without penalty. Patients shouldn't get reminders 16 hours before the appointment with their only option to come or pay a $50 fee. This was my second time trying to reschedule and being assessed a fee. I will say they waived the first fee as a courtesy. We have already found another dentist and I don't intend on paying this predatory fee. They have already sent us to collections - for services not rendered with a late fee on top of the cancellation fee. We have perfect credit, pay all of our bills on time, and are highly responsible adults who were looking for grace and were met with disdain and flippant recitals of policy. Everyone from the front desk staff to insurance verification was quick and easy. My Insurnace was even verified before I arrived for my first appointment. Dr. Godwin was thorough and caring during my new patient exam and the X-Ray tech was gentle and patient with me. After my first visit I had a detailed treatment plan and got lucky and was able to schedule my fillings and cleaning for the following day. Kandiss was my hygienist and was caring and thorough. The assistant to Dr. Godwin ensured that the numbing was complete before I received any shots and for the first time I didn't even feel them. The work Dr. Godwin performed for my filings is amazing. They are perfectly smooth and unnoticeable. Overall I had an excellent experience and highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for a caring and efficient office. The dentist I saw was incredibly kind and thorough. She conducted a comprehensive checkup to ensure there were no signs of infection or inflammation, and even ordered a CT scan of my teeth to make sure nothing was missed. After discussing the numbness and its progression, she gently suggested that it might be Bell's Palsy. However, to rule out the very slight chance of a stroke, she advised me to have someone take me to the emergency room immediately. The staff were all extremely kind and professional, and they asked only that I call and update them on my condition after my ER visit. I felt genuinely cared for, and I believe that level of care is the best any industry can offer its customers. Oh and it is Bell's Palsy. I should be right as rain in a few weeks to a few months.
