No, I couldn't use any beech trees, but I loved looking at them, along with the weeping cherry trees. I did eventually go in and buy the bigger pot that I needed for my Blue Bottle Rocket plant which I eventually killed. But that's a tragedy, and this, friends, is a comedy. Lots of parking, everything under the Sun from trees to small houseplants and all accoutrements, including stones, vases, etc.!

Most of the year it's open by appointment only (exceptions exist in that they have periodic open houses), and if you do go, the best signage you can expect en route are a couple very understated "plant sale" yard signs. They do maintain a good website. But clearly most of their effort goes into cultivating native Kentucky plants. In fact, I'm not sure any other nursery in the area can claim the same reputation among the biggest gardening nerds in Louisville. The selection of native plants isn't overwhelming, but it's varied enough to give anyone plenty of options. Lots of sun-loving plants as well as shade-loving, and everything from trees to ground cover. And the grounds are lovely.

This is a small nursery located on a beautiful twisty wooded road in Goshen, KY. It was easy to find and the folks who own and run this nursery are extremely personable and know what they are talking about. Their two big dogs will greet you as you drive onto the property. With the owners help I chose several plants (wish I bought more) for my plot of land. I was told how to plant and how far apart (use a ruler) each plant should be. It was nice to be in such a peaceful atmosphere. If you are looking for "real" Kentucky Native plants you won't go wrong by shopping at Dropseed. This is not your huge BB store, but a small nursery established by people who care about keeping Kentucky's native plants alive.

Get ready for an overload of photos because I'm adding them. It's just too beautiful not to. The garden plants are well cared for and moderately priced featuring a wide array of annuals, perennials and house plants. We purchased two spider plants @ $4 each to revive a hanging basket which is now is thriving. The indoor section features local fresh produce much cheaper and certainly more attractive than commercial retailers. It is also a kick to support our local farmers. There is a big assortment of home-made jams, jellies, candies, honey and other natural food products. They are gearing up for Fall by starting their hardy Mum seedlings. We will certainly return for those when they mature and the Summer heat wave begins to taper off.

I was on cloud nine walking through the outdoor plants. The plants appeared unscathed by the miserably hot temperatures of the current heat wave that we are experiencing in the area. They had definitely received excellent care. The selection is astonishing. They have a large selection of herbs, annuals, perennials, and ready-made hanging baskets. Browsing through the indoor fruit market is a step back in time. The market has been in business since 1978! Small but chock full of garden fresh fruits vegetables from local farms, locally made honey and jams, locally canned pickled okra and garlic, Amish goods, natural products, and much, much more. Oh, and my favorite, many varieties of old-fashioned candy! The garden center prices beat those of the big box stores and also a few nurseries and garden centers that are closer to our home. The market prices were higher than local grocery and big-box stores, but garden fresh is always better, and supporting local businesses is the way to shop! We needed to replace an old, lethargic spider plant hanging basket and bought two small spider plants that were so healthy and full of pups! Getting in and out of the center was a bit tricky as it is located on the corner of two very busy roads, but it was worth it!

The manager and assistant manager were great- they allowed for creativity, but also provided some guidance. We wound up making beautiful wreaths complete with ribbons, pinecones, and several different types of greenery. The manager told me that they were very welcoming of people who didn't know much about plants/plant care and that every so often they offered their customers the ability to exchange cuttings or gardening material (soil, pots, etc). It was clear they were closing up because several rubber plants were heavily discounted. I'm planning to go back since they obviously know what they are doing, and I don't!
