This is a small but very beautiful and charming community garden made up of over 20 plots belonging…read moreto individuals in the area who want to have a space for their gardening pursuits. It's open to the public but please only look and don't pick the flowers or vegetables that the gardeners work so hard to grow. It's located behind the playground at the Decatur Rec Center and immediately next to the tennis courts behind the building as well. If you need a small slice of nature amidst the hustle and bustle of an urban center, then you'll be rewarded by beautiful flowers, vegetables, and other plants to sooth your inner soul. Each plot is rented by a different person, so there's quite a variety of plants to check out. It's quite an education to learn more about how veggies are grown. Just ask a gardener if you see one tending to their plot! If you're interested in renting a plot, then walk into the Decatur Rec Center and ask the front desk for details! The garden is open all year but the winter is when many people let their plots rest before the early spring time starts in March for the new round of more robust plantings.

Following the street address will lead you to a short dead end road (Dixie). From here, the preserve is accessed at the very end and is unmarked until you get close, where you'll see a wildlife sanctuary sign as well as the standard Atlanta city park rules sign. There is limited parking here. However, the preserve can be accessed from several other streets and one large parking lot located behind the Dekalb Human Services Complex at the SW intersection of Warren St. and Hosea Williams Dr. Look for the parking lot access road off the one-way street coming from Warren St. It's behind the Dekalb Community Services Kirkwood Center building. That parking lot accesses a trail into a separate section of the preserve. The trail connects to the main property. You can also access the preserve at a number of trail points on various streets surrounding the preserve but you'll have to park on the street. Google maps is a pretty accurate guide. I'd go for the parking lot or Dixie St. Now that you're on the property, you'll find a community garden, a picnic area and a bunch of interconnected trails that go off into the property. The garden and picnic area are located near the Dixie St entrance. There's not much else here except walking paths, tree, mosquitoes and unfortunately, still a lot of garbage (I understand the garbage situation is getting better through efforts by the city and community). The trails are a nice walk but I think it might be better during colder months when it isn't so muggy and the bugs aren't so plentiful. Mind you, it rained heavily the day before I came here, so that didn't help.

What Kirkwood has done with this property, transforming a once nasty dumping ground into a tiny secret garden and lovely forest with trails and a creek is nothing short of miraculous. There is a raised garden with labels on all the plants, a frog pond, and then the park descends onto thick woods with trails and wood swings and mulch paths. At the top of the hill is a small but adequate grassy field, perfect for tossing a ball with the fido. The only thing that I did not enjoy, is the home directly in front of the garden has several large dogs that are kept in a very small pen, who bark their heads off at anyone or anything. I feel really bad for them, to be penned up like that. And I think it may keep dog lovers a little cautious, since it does seem to upset my beasts. . .but then wind seems to upset my beasts, so I can't really get too judgy. I only ask that users pick up after your dog. Leaving a steaming pile in the middle of the trail is not cool!

Vacated the venue by 2 . Saw no one attempting to enter to clean before we vacated at 2 am.We Retrieved Corn hole boards that were on the patio by 10 the next day. Despite our best efforts the club withheld half of our 500.00 deposit. We've lived in Avondale for thirty years. Really can't figure how resetting the alarm has triggered this $250 damage. It's gotta be one of the largest splash pads in the area, and my daughter had the time of her life. I love that there is seating for the parents/guardians with built in bench seating and covered under the shade!! Perfect spot to also put your belongings as you have some fun with your littles. This park is endless with multiple playgrounds and tons of sports fields as well. I feel we barely scratched the surface of what's offered here at EE Robinson Park. They've been turning brown thumbs green since 2009 at their operation in College Park on the MARTA line between the East Point and College Park stations. I'd passed by before without paying attention but I wish I'd known about them before today's MLK Day service project. During our orientation, Mr. Wilson explained that they teach people in the community how to grow their own food. Adults and children can get hands-on experience at MAUF that they can use to cultivate organic gardens of their own. They learn which vegetables to plant in each season and how to nourish the soil. They also get information about cooking and preserving/canning their produce. MAUF is focused on self-sufficiency and farming of high quality produce. Everything they grow is non-GMO and is free of hormones, synthetic pesticides and fertilizer and the majority of what they plant are heirloom seeds. They have a well onsite and they're in the process of going off the grid with solar power. They sell fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables to the public, including to several of the restaurants in the area. Low-income EBT and food stamp recipients can buy $20 worth of produce for $10 through their 2-for-1 discount program. I encourage everyone to support this organization's work to educate people in the Atlanta community and help them eat nutritiously. Today we pulled weeds inside the hoop houses, tended the compost pile and stained tables in furtherance of their mission. I plan to return (when it warms up) to learn how to grow some of my favorite veggies at home! TLDR: I would not hire this company. Not only am I very disappointed with the diagnosis process and…read morethe repair that did not address the issue that I called them for but also with the failure of their management to address my concerns. I called Plumbing Express to investigate and resolve a water leak in my kitchen ceiling. The leak was directly below my master bathroom toilet, which my sister and I had already narrowed down by tapping on the kitchen ceiling downstairs while listening upstairs, where the sound was clearly strongest near the master bathroom toilet. The technician briefly inspected both bathrooms but focused on my sister's bathroom on the opposite side of the house after noticing a damp sponge under the toilet tank. My sister explained the sponge was there because she sprays and cleans the toilet regularly, not because of a leak. The plumber then cut open the kitchen ceiling drywall, stated the leak was coming from the water supply line from my sister's toilet, and performed a complete toilet tank rebuild for $450. After the repair, he gave me a card for a company that performs restorations and recommended I call them to inspect for subfloor damage. When that restoration company arrived, they immediately stated there was no way the ceiling leak could have originated from the secondary bathroom because of the location and no evidence of water stains. They recommended another plumber and a leak detection company come out to find the leak before they performed any work. I contacted a second plumber, who agreed the leak was much more likely connected to the master bathroom toilet directly above the leak area. Finally, I hired a leak detection company, and they also confirmed the leak aligned with the master bathroom location, not the secondary bathroom Plumbing Express repaired. At this point, three separate professionals have stated the leak could not have originated from the bathroom Plumbing Express serviced. I paid $450 for a repair that did not address the actual problem I originally called about. In Response to Ty G: Your response is totally incorrect. I would not have called the second plumber and the leak detection company if your recommended restoration company had not told me that the leak was not identified. The pictures taken are of the secondary bathroom not the master as we discussed in our phone call. It is totally "disingenuous" for you to now state that the master toilet was the issue. This validates everything I thought about your company. Others beware!

A Doctor you can relate to and trust. 2. Someone who gives a great haircut. 3. An auto mechanic you can trust and who does great work. I've found #3 in Decatur Pure Station. After my early check-in, I sat in the waiting area for about two hours, watching and listening to the manager interacting with customers. My observations? Friendly, matter-of-fact, clear. Andy explained everything going on with his client's cars. He made recommendations, and more importantly, noted what didn't need to be done. He gave accurate representations about when services would be completed. For my car, he got the part quickly and told me they had looked over the whole car and only found one repair that needed to be made (besides my originating situation). He was accurate in his honesty, because I already knew I was needing a new rear brake job in the next month. While my car was being repaired, I walked around downtown Decatur. I reacquainting myself with some old, and mostly new, businesses and restaurants. I arrived back at the repair shop in the mid-afternoon, just after they finished repairing the car. Andy explained everything they did, and gave me a very fair price for the service I received. Am I ever glad to have found Pure. Five Stars, and even higher.

Bear Creek Nature Center is a hidden gem in Chattahoochee Hills, GA. This is a small animal refuge…read more/ hiking location (with a waterfall nearby) / and conservation center. This non-profit organization is home to numerous reptiles, amphibians, and birds. They even have the only live bats at a nature center in all of Georgia. Admission is $5 per car/driver and $3 for each additional person in your group. This is a great spot for families. They even let my kids pet any small animal in the facility of their choosing. We were given a personal tour of the place and the hike was good for all members of the group. Since not too many people know about this place yet, there was no issue parking. The staff were friendly as well. You can also follow the latest updates of their animals on their FB page. I hope to go back again soon.

Many of them are free and others are typically low cost. Some sell out so sign up or purchase tickets well ahead of time. I usually check out the schedule in late January and then try to attend a few events each year. The ASF, founded in 2014, used to be one week and has expanded to two weeks with fun things planned for mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, all over metro Atlanta. The founding organizations include academic powerhouses Emory + Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. My only negative was that I signed up to volunteer but never was contacted about helping out. So either their system is dysfunctional or I fell through the cracks and was the outlier. My friends have volunteered without grief though, bah. So anyway, pencil in the science festival on your calendar for next March!
