Oakland finally has its sports bar back and it came back better. The Oakland Athletic Club reopened just in time for the World Cup, and it did not miss. Walking into a packed house cheering the soccer match on any of 40 TVs with 20 independent sound zones felt like exactly what this neighborhood has been missing. The space is cleaner and sharper than before with fresh energy. Seating covers every vibe: bar stools, booths, high tables, and a mezzanine VIP area ideal for larger groups. There isn't a bad view in the house. The upgraded menu earns serious praise. The half chicken is a standout -- juicy, well-seasoned, the kind of dish that's both satisfying and comforting in the best way. The bean and rice bowl is equally impressive: fresh, hearty, and far above what you'd expect from a sports bar. Real food. What ties it all together is the staff and management. Genuinely welcoming from the moment you walk in, and attentive throughout, even on a packed game day. You never felt like just another table. Whether you're coming solo, on a date, or rolling in with a big group, OAC handles it all with ease. This is Oakland's living room. It's back where it belongs. Will be back there again.

Dining here on day two of the new Oakland Athletic Club, where an ambitious group of six took the site of the dearly departed Athletic Club Oakland and gave it fresh life. Upon our arrival at a bar full of folks cheering for the Americans in the World Cup, we were greeted by the hostess, Lisa. Color me impressed by the crowd and the upgrades to the space. Cleaned up and with a few coats of paint. Best of all, I love the upgraded Menu. I can easily say that this is the spot in Oakland to eat, drink and see games live with 40 TVs, 20 sound zones, and every sports package available! Here's what I saw. Tons of folks celebrating the USA soccer win over Paraguay. Oakland Athletic Club elevates the game by coming back to life as an everyday joint with a full food program, a private event space and a mezzanine VIP area that I want to use for Warrior's season. I think the new kitchen and new menu are the biggest difference makers. There's a much better selection of salads with a lineup of: Baby Kale salad, Chopped Chicken salad and a Little Gem Caesar. The Buffalo Wings (with avocado blue cheese dressing) and 36-hour Brisket, which comes with tasty corn bread, are what I went for. My boo got the Mac & Cheese and Baby Kale Salad. Top notch deliciousness across the board! I'll be back for the Brisket and Mac & Cheese especially!! The Fried Burrata was recommended by the bartender. I want to get into the Burger and Tacos from the everyday menu next time. Pork Loin and 1/4 Roasted Chicken were recommended on the dinner-only menu too. Lots of beers to choose from. Just cans and bottles while they're opening. A pilsner did me right. You can order beers by the bucket! Lots of taps soon. I didn't check out the wines. The cocktails were impressive though. The Drop Top was a sophisticated tequila lemon drop with Luna Azul reposado tequila, passionfruit liqueur, lemon, simple syrup and cardamom bitters. The Blow the Whistle offered spicy goodness in a balanced mezcal drink with, lime, grapefruit, maraschino, and hellfire. Somebody call Too Short! Oakland Athletic Club is the official bar partner of the Oakland Roots & Soul soccer teams and the Oakland Ballers baseball team too! So many TV's there are no bad places to sit or stand. If your game isn't on, just ask. I haven't tried it yet, but I think they might even let me watch the Dodgers. Ha! I wasn't here for day one, when the place must have been going nuts for Mexico's win in the opening match of the World Cup. I like the staff and service. Reasonable prices too. What's not to like? Hours will be 11am to midnight, 7 days a week. Currently, the full kitchen open during dinner service from 5-10pm only. Kids, teenagers and young adults are welcome to join your party until the kitchen closes around 10. Reservation recommended via Toast or their website at oaklandathleticclub.com. Just a few blocks from 19th Street BART. No reason to drink and drive.

I almost forgot to talk about the drinks: the menu is solid. Good cocktails, reasonable prices, well made.

We stumbled across this spot on Google and decided to give it a try. Luckily, our party of four was seated right away. The cocktail menu is on the smaller side, but between the four of us, we ended up trying a good portion of it. Honestly, every drink we ordered was really good, and there weren't any complaints from the group. I think we ordered Actual Proof, Sun Goddess, High Heel Sneaker, and Moonglow (mine). My cocktail was definitely my favorite because I love sweeter drinks where you can barely taste the alcohol, and it was exactly that. The rest of my friends' drinks leaned less sweet with a stronger alcohol presence. While I could appreciate the flavors of those cocktails, they just weren't my personal preference since I tend to like sweeter, fruitier drinks. I'd definitely come back. Very nice vibe and ambience. I'd probably order the same cocktail again since I enjoyed it, or try one of the other drinks I had my eye on. Between my friends and me, we managed to try almost everything that initially caught my interest, and overall it was a great experience.

Can't quite describe it but it didn't feel like an SF bar, felt more open and like a community watering whole. On to the food and drinks. I'm vegetarian so was so excited to try the dogs - which are vegan. And I may be biased but you cannot tell that you're missing out on anything with all the flavor packed combos. The bun was fluffy and soft and you have multiple fun themed options to choose from. My partner and I ended up getting the deli dog and truffle meltdown. Deli was perfect - classic mix of spice and crunch with the spicy brown mustard and giardiniera peppers. And the truffle meltdown was so savory and decadent - totally different flavor profiles from each dog! We were only going to grab one drink but the menu was so inventive we ended up getting two. I ordered the banana hammock (which comes with a fire show) and espresso martini slushee which was is up there with the frozen Irish coffees I've had in New Orleans. Man writing this has my mouth watering... definitely coming back for more dogs, drinks, and vibes!

It is a unique layout to a bar, and probably better concept for earlier hours, when it isn't as crowded during the night. It can fill up really quickly, since the area to order a drink, dance, and mingle is narrow, since the bar is literally in the middle of the room. Some of the staff can be extremely nice and kind, and there are some who you can tell are fed up, upset, and don't have the best attitude. I get it, though. It's a cool bar to check out or be the first stop of the night. The djs they have always turn up. Good luck getting a drink under 15 minutes though!

They also have nice swag ~ we took home a hat that resembled a Kirkland hat that spelled out "Oakland Viridian" (IYKYK). Drink-wise we ordered the Soy Sauce Old Fashioned and the Café Sua Daddy, which essentially is an espresso martini with a fun twist with black sesame and an egg cream foam. Both drinks were outstanding and presentation was beyond..I wished we could have stayed for round two, but duty calls!
