The place on a Saturday was absolutely jam packed with locals, dancing, good music, and overall a really fun time that I was pleasantly surprised about. The bar itself on the inside is really long, so finding a spot was easy to order a drink. We ordered a couple of topo Chico seltzers and a modelo, and the bill came out to $19 for all 3. Most of their signature cocktails ranged from $10-12 , so affordable by today's standards. When we first arrived, we were able to snag a spot in their parking lot, which is dead ends at the end of the road, with no way of turning around. Since it was a busy night, all the spots were full, and needed to reverse all the way out. A little nerve racking but we made it through. Overall, pretty cool to see a free live show and band. Incident: My party of 7 came to Mad Oak around 5pm on Monday evening, 7/20. I did not have my ID on hand as I didn't realize I needed it for entry. I was not planning to consume alcohol. The staff member in charge of the outdoor entry let me in anyway after a little bit of friendly back and forth. One of our friends arrived later and similarly did not have their ID. The same staff member turned them away very rudely and dismissively. I went over to the staff member to let him know that our friend was with us and I also did not have my ID. He responded very rudely despite all members of our party being very respectful. He replied me saying, "What did I tell her?! What did I tell her?!", without explanation. Our friend who was turned away identifies as they/them and without explanation from the staff member, and inconsistent application of rules pertaining to ID, I suspect it might have been a situation where our friend was unfairly discriminated against for their appearance. To sum it up, it was not clear that IDs were required for entry otherwise I would have prepared my party ahead of time; the staff member inconsistently applied an already unclear rule; he did not explain why one guest was allowed and not another, even in the same party; and lastly, he was unnecessarily rude. Our whole party ended up leaving Mad Oak to go somewhere we could all be together. In my outreach to the restaurant a couple days later, I asked for a response to let me know that they have addressed the issue and there has been no response to date.

We sit outside when we eat out because we are still mindful of respiratory issues and, as I'm already dealing with long term health issues, I don't need to complicate matters by raw-dogging air by eating indoors. The strange thing is they apparently allow cigar smoking outside where they serve food, yet they closed their door because of cigar smoke coming inside the restaurant? Really? There's no point in my reviewing food beyond just saying it was great. Everything just got tainted by smoke. And this from a group of guys who were not even eating but just watching the game outside on a tv in the restaurant window. As I was walking in, I briefly stopped after recognizing someone I knew. At that point, another security guard began yelling at me and then grabbed me forcefully to move me along. I understand that security staff have a job to do and need to keep entrances and walkways clear. However, the way the situation was handled felt completely unnecessary. I was not causing a disturbance, and there was no reason for physical contact. Being grabbed so aggressively was uncomfortable and unprofessional. I hope management addresses this issue and speaks with the security staff about appropriate ways to interact with guests. First impressions matter, and this interaction immediately impacted my experience.
