Beautiful view. Fun place. Did 2 verticals. One with Pinot noir and one with Tempranillo.

5 Stars - A Perfect Anniversary Getaway!…read more My wife Tiffany and I stayed at the guest house at Cooper Ridge Vineyards over the 4th of July weekend for our anniversary, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The guest house was spotless, very reasonably priced, and gave us the complete run of the vineyard once the tasting room closed. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The property offers both 1- and 2-bedroom options and has gorgeous views overlooking the North Umpqua River and the vineyards perfect for morning coffee or evening wine on the patio. Steve and Paula, the owners, are wonderful, warm people who were incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home. Their wines are superb, especially the pomegranate sparkling wine, which quickly became our favorite. We also loved the complimentary charcuterie board! The guest house was well-equipped with a washer and dryer, iron, full refrigerator, coffee maker, and plenty of dishware -- everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Located in beautiful Douglas County wine country, it's conveniently just minutes away from many other wineries, making it an ideal base for exploring the Umpqua Valley. Do yourself a favor and book a stay with Steve and Paula at Cooper Ridge Vineyards. You won't be disappointed!

We didn't have a reservation, but we lucked out on scoring a table. It was away from the live music, but you can still see/hear the band. What was so breathtaking was that gorgeous view! I wasn't feeling well that day but the view was a total zen vibe! There's an inside bar area, ample seating outside. It's best to get a reservation or get there early for the outside tables. Restrooms are inside, parking is on the vineyard. The day we were there, they had a taco vendor for food. Overall, this was one of our favorite wineries to visit and hope to be back when we're in the area.

So, my objective was to just find a winery to visit on our way from Newport on the coast to a BnB…read morein the little town of Glide on the South Umpqua River. We had an hour or so to spare before check-in, and I found this highly rated winery on Yelp, so I thought it would be a good place to stop for a break. It was an enjoyable drove along narrow country roads from the main highway in late October, with the trees showing their fall colors and fields of grass waving in the sun. Our GPS guided us to the front entrance, after which it got a bit confused as the paved, one-lane access road wound this way and that. We followed the signs to the tasting room and entered the medium-sized, stonewalled tasting room. We hadn't called ahead for a reservation, given the time of year, but the attendant welcomed us with open arms. He provided a great description of the vintner background, the winery, and the diversity of wines they grow. While I had tasted several Pinot Noirs from the Umpqua Valley, I wasn't aware of the other varietals. The attendant was very accommodating, letting us taste several different wines, especially as my wife is not as interested in wine as I am. I'm not a big fan of most white wines, although they are known for their Grüner Veltliner. I wasn't keen on the GV, but their Sauv Blanc was quite good for a US offering (we both like NZ Sauv Blancs a lot). On the darker side, their Syrah was just okay, but their Tempranillo was the best U.S. example of this varietal that I've ever had, and just a bit below some of the amazing ones I've had the pleasure to taste from Spain. It was so impressive that I decided to sign up for their quarterly wine club, which had been the farthest thing from my mind when I entered, but I've been very impressed with the shipments I've received so far. Lovely wines from a pretty vineyard in the Umpqua Valley of Oregon.

We also enjoyed walking around to the property. They did a beautiful job creating this winery! We thought we were going to a wine cave, it's not a cave. It's a building that looks like a cave in the inside, but regardless it was beautiful. Our wine attendant was kind and knowledgeable and we really enjoyed talking to him. The food pairing was a nice touch. I found the wines didn't match the atmosphere and were average. We will for sure come back when in the area again.
