The support, kindness, patience, and genuine care they show their students truly goes such a long way. Over the past year, we have watched our daughter completely transform into a confident, curious, and bright little girl since starting in Room 23. Miss Kaelie is an especially kind and passionate teacher who truly uplifts her students and helps bring out their potential. I really like this school my son is 15 years old he does not Attend here but he does play AAU basketball for the summer league. The basketball courts are very nice and they do maintain their gym. Both of my kids attend this school (oldest on his 3rd year, youngest on her 2nd year). They love school! When I come to pick them up it's always "mommy, can we stay longer?" They truly enjoy their classes. The homework is not "busy work" but seems to truly reinforce key concepts.The teachers look very happy and appear to love teaching. The teachers have always been flexible with parent-teacher conference meetings, which is important as a working mom. I appreciate having the middle and high schools on the same campus. My kids love seeing the high school plays and sport events. There is a real sense of community. read more

We have joined the Oakwood family since my son was in middle school. My son is 11th grade now, and we are all happy with the school, the teachers and all the staffs. We love many parts of the school. This review is mainly focus on the STEM field for the High School. My son's middle school robotics teacher has inspired him to pursue engineering/computer science field. This teacher is also his AP computer science teacher. There is no other high school in the Bay Area has this high level of qualification for teaching CS class. She can actually work in high tech company and make so much more money, instead she choose to pursue her passion of teaching. If your child is interested in the STEM field for college, Oakwood has the right teachers and the right combination of classes to prepare your child for his/her pursue. Regards to the school's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are just so blessed with the great leadership of this school. The school had started different responding plans even before the beginning of March 2020. During the summer, the school even invested more on technology. So, the students can have a "feel like in class" effect for the online learning. The high quality of education is not stopping because of the virus. read more

Everything about Oakwood School has been amazing for our kids: the administration, the staff, the teachers, the academics, the extracurriculars, and the other families. Our kids attended Oakwood for high school and were academically challenged and were very well prepared to succeed in college. The small class sizes in the high school meant they formed personal relationships with their teachers each year and were able to really be involved in their educations. Our kids enjoyed participating in many sports and clubs during their high school years as well. We are sad our time at Oakwood is coming to an end as our last child is a senior. read more

The education and many of the teachers are of high quality. Be aware there are politics going on and bullying that is not handled appropriately. Unfortunately it can get in the way of the children getting an education. The school has some strong clicks within that do not foster inclusiveness. Some of the teachers do weave in their strong political positions as well without discussions on other viewpoints, tends to create some the toxic environment that exists. read more

When we first moved to Morgan Hill, we looked at every school from San Jose on down. Once we found Oakwood, we stopped looking. The principal said something that really struck us as important which was that they don't just develop academically strong students. They help the parents create great human beings. In our 9 years at the school, they have done just that. I feel like we are partners, with teachers contacting me when our kid needs extra attention in a particular area or is doing exceptionally well in another. They know our daughter as well as we do and have a vested interest in her, not just as a student there but as someone who will go out into the world with a well-rounded view of studies and hobbies. Because they are a college prep school, they are teaching kids things that public school students don't learn until way later, if at all. And they start very early teaching kids how to study, how to balance homework with enrichment, how to develop friendships, navigate tricky relationships and be socially responsible. Best of all, the school goes from pre-k (or maybe even nursery?) up through High School. Your child is never forced out. As our daughter was getting done with middle school, we asked her if she wanted to look at other schools. She quickly turned that idea down, having seen what happened to some of her friends who left along the way. It's easy to think that a bigger school with seemingly more options for sports or fancy campuses would be better but for us, it was nice to know that she was staying a community that she would not get lost in, especially during the really tricky high school years. Last year season, 2021 -2022 kindergarten ,room 25 ,teacher Mrs. Perez and Lower School precibal Mrs. Christine was unacceptably were very bad and unprofessional ,unfair to my little boy and to me as parent. I really ,sincerely and honestly think that ,this 2 person should take psychology test and training and personnel communication ,plus child education training again , i don't know if they ever revalued them self .I don't think so . In the morning or anytime something happening at school area, you can hear Mrs Christine voice ,showing off herself, and everyone to be noticed that she is here and acting like she is great ,doing her job best she can .But nobody knows her other side ,abuser/liar, disrespectful and more .As a parent I am still carrying drama from her. Mrs. Perez is completely weird .Way he stands up her classroom front door ,blocks door with her feet ,controls unprofessional way ,and she cant stop talking to individual some parents about her personal life ,or something else ,has nothing to the with class or children ,and for us as parent have to wait for her to finishes her nonsenses talking for us to drop our kids to classroom is nightmare .And for he to scream at 5 years boy saying like" get the hell out from my classroom " Mrs. Perez you need to get to hell out from educational job ,you are in ,plus you have your own little beautiful boy, This is how you teaching your own kid !!!!!) We love Oakwood but most important our kids love it even more.... The teachers are very unique both My 4 years old and my 9 years old are happy and learning. Our family has been a part of the Oakwood community for 6 years and I feel fortunate that we found such a wonderful school for our 2 boys. Both of my children started at Oakwood in middle school and are continuing through high school (currently 10th and 12th grade). When we first looked at middle schools for my oldest son, we researched several possible schools in the area. He attended a public K-6 school and had a good experience, but the step to middle school is a big one and we wanted to be thorough with our decision. We researched many options; public, private, charter, flex, etc. My goal was to enroll him in a school that met his unique needs. At first, I did not think Oakwood was an option because of the cost. I am so glad I did not dismiss the school because of that concern. Oakwood worked with us and made it financially possible to enroll. We are so grateful and have since seen that it was the perfect choice for our children and our family. On the first day of school, my husband and I walked on campus with our son. We were warmly greeted by the upper school principal who knew us all by name. In addition, I was impressed with the small class sizes, the variety of electives, easy communication with teachers and administration, attention to student needs, ability to volunteer and be involved on campus, and the incredible passion of the teachers to teach each and every child. Most importantly, as the school year progressed, it was wonderful to see my son happy at school and thriving academically! When it came time to decide where my second son would attend middle school, we researched his possible choices and let him choose. He shadowed at Oakwood and quickly decided he wanted to attend Oakwood as well. We could not be more pleased with his journey and the academic strides he has made. This is our 6th year at Oakwood and both boys are in high school. I can honestly say that my children are happy, thriving young men. They have both been greatly influenced by the positive environment and role models at Oakwood. They are supported by an incredible staff and team of teachers, they are provided with opportunities to travel the world (my older son has traveled with Oakwood to China and Europe), they are surrounded by a diverse student body, and so much more. For our family, Oakwood has clearly been a perfect fit. My 12th grader will be graduating at the end of this year and I can say with confidence that Oakwood has prepared him incredibly well to succeed in college and beyond! read more

In the "Not Recommended" reviews, Bea explained in great detail, how her special needs child was not "invited back" to advance to middle school. Our ADHD child was not a disciplinary problem. In fact he was achieving A's & B's. Apparently, private schools can discriminate against students with disabilities. My wife and I experienced the exact same issue when our older son was ready to advance to Middle School. We were preparing for his advancement, when in May, we were suddenly blindsided by the administration. They do this just before the end of the school year, so that parents cannot raise a ruckus. But it also placed a great burden on our family, to transfer our children into public schools. The public middle schools had already selected their courses for the following years. Also trying to get our students into the proper public school was difficult - gathering records, establishing a 504 plan, meeting with district psychologists, etc.... all within the last few weeks of their school year. Oakwood's short sighted approach really negatively impacted our family and placed a great burden and stress upon us. Their approach towards disabled students, goes against the Christian teachings of the very Mormon Faith the Schools Founders and Administrators practice. We were very disappointed in the administration's late notice and handling of their notifications. They were insensitive and callous. We withdrew our younger child as well. Both prospered in public schools, the oldest is now in College. As a high school freshman, the youngest son received straight A's and played on 2 Varsity sports. When our second son graduates from high school in 3 years, we will have saved over $600,000 by not paying Oakwood tuition. In fact. we have paid off our house and have SAVED ENOUGH CASH TO PAY FOR COLLEGE for both children ! Oakwood is a perfect place for your kids if you are looking for a 99% white Upper Middle Class School - so long as your children are PERFECT. It's all about the money. If your child requires extra effort on the school's part (tutoring, assistance, learning disability, speech pathology, hearing impairment, ADHD, processing delays, Turrets, Dyslexia, or other handicap) expect to be shown the door. If your child is attending Oakwood, do not ask for special assistance from the school you are paying $30,000 plus per year to. If you desire to keep your child enrolled in Oakwood, seek private outside assistance and keep it to yourself. read more

My daughter still attends Oakwood Kindergarten, but after the first trimester of sixth grade we withdrew my son so he could attend a public charter school where they use and follow 504 plans. As a parent of a child who flourished in Oakwood's Lower School (he attended 3rd, 4th and 5th) because of attentive teachers and small class sizes, I was sorely disappointed that the few accommodations we asked for would not be honored in Middle School. I feel strongly that my daughter will do well at Oakwood for the next few years, as she is neurotypical and quick to understand things. The community is good, but now I have a lower school 5 star/upper school 1 star split. Very sad that in Silicon Valley where 2E (twice exceptional) kids are becoming the norm, Oakwood can't adapt and help all students. read more

Our child was a mid-year transfer to Oakwood from a local public elementary school. What could have been a tough transition instead was seamless and incredibly positive. Within the first few days we knew it was the BEST decision we had EVER made. Our son was excited to talk about what he was learning in his classes. He found the curriculum to be interesting and the teaching style quite dynamic. He made comments like, "we get so much done because the kids aren't disruptive!" and "the bathrooms are SO clean!" At public school his classroom was full of kids that were continually disruptive slowing down and/or stopping the teaching process every day and the bathrooms were being locked before noon because kids were flooding them on purpose. At Oakwood things were clearly different. Children and administrators greet parents dropping off children by opening car doors with a smile and saying, "have a good day!" The administration is very visible on campus, hands on, proactive and responsive. The campus and facilities are impeccably maintained, beautiful, warm and welcoming. Classrooms are engaging and teachers are clearly excited to be teaching. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, full of rigor, and interesting. Students are engaged, attentive, and eager to learn. It is very clear that Oakwood teachers and staff are incredibly supportive and want their students to succeed. Respect for others, respect for school, respect for yourself are all hallmarks within the Oakwood community and are clearly evident on campus. Students are encouraged to be the best version of themselves and it shows. Oakwood is an incredible place to learn and grow. Now, three years later, we still feel that transferring to Oakwood was the best decision we've ever made. Our child continues to thrive and has truly blossomed into a confident, more independent, insightful, and engaging young man. He is excited to go to school every day and is incredibly proud to be an Oakwood student. We are always sharing our Oakwood experience with people we meet because we continue to be astonished at how different an Oakwood education is. At Oakwood student excellence is not just a goal. My son started Oakwood in 6th grade and we were a little shocked to find our once astute, head-of-the-class student was struggling with his grades. After a couple months, I wondered if I'd made the wrong decision with Oakwood and scheduled a meeting with the principal. To my surprise, three of his teachers were also in attendance at the meeting. While they were constructive in their criticism of where my son fell short, they were also encouraging to stay in the school and showed interest in my son rising to the occasion of bettering himself, academically as well as in character. So sixth was a bit of a struggle, but we made it. By 7th grade there was a marked difference in my son's confidence, efforts and esteem and by the end of that school year he was back up to Honor Roll status. Eighth grade has been a breeze for him, grade-wise and socially. Academically, the bottom line is that Oakwood will raise the bar on your child's educational journey. While it may be a struggle at first, the self-actualization your child will gain is tremendous. It's one of those lessons in life that babying your baby and paving their way for them is not in their best interest. As far as bullying, there is no such thing as the old standard beating-in-the-bathroom bully at Oakwood. If there is anything, it is a competitive school and the kids are going to try and outdo each other. My son became part of a guy's guy group. At first I was not sure about it...but realized that they were 'respectfully' irreverent to each other, and now my son can take a joke without withering into a pool of insecurity. This is resilience and something missing in today's sheltered culture. The one thing I did have to get used to were the other parents. The first year I just could not click with anyone and there did seem to be a bit of an air. It doesn't help that beyond the grade school years, you do not get to meet as many other parents as you once did and I am a bit on the shy side. But I helped out when needed/available and realized I am not the one going to the school, my son is and if he is getting along well with his classmates and is learning, this is what the school experience is all about. By end of 7th grade, I had begun to make a few parent friends and once again, this year has been especially rewarding as I have been more active in volunteerism. I have read the other reviews and do not fault the school for turning some students away. I do know there are ADD/ADHD kids that currently go to the school (they are well-behaved) so I know they are not turning away kids solely for that reason. I do believe that if a student is repeatedly disruptive to the learning experience of the majority, it is a problem that needs to be resolved. As we do pay a premium tuition for my son's education, we appreciate that our son's time and our money is respected enough not to have a repetitive problem left unaddressed. We have really appreciated the Oakwood experience and embraced the diversity. It is a 'non-secular' school yet reverent in character. We are so thankful to have found Oakwood and definitely recommend it as an exceptional place of learning. read more

My 3rd grade daughter was sexually harassed repeatedly and physically touched by a boy in her class at Oakwood school. My two daughters attended Oakwood from Junior Kindergarten until 3rd and 5th grades. The school made choices around curriculum and staffing in recent years that significantly changed the atmosphere. In regards to the harassment my third grader experienced, we worked unsuccessfully with the school, both the teacher and principal, to stop this repeated harassment from her classmate. Each time they assured us that it was handled and would not happen again. It never stopped. We decided at the end of the year to move to a different area and school because what was happening here was unacceptable -- and most significantly - bothersome. How is a 3rd grade boy able to get away with what he did without being suspended or expelled? Repeatedly. Though the school allowed us to withdraw from the upcoming year. We had to get permission from the school's business office to leave and not be charge for a full year tuition! However, the school, which is going through renovations, demanded fees to be paid and refused to acknowledge what happened to my 3rd grade daughter though it was documented in many emails back and forth to the principal. No effort was made to resolve a situation in the best interest of all parties and the business office engaged in harassing me over questionable fees and ultimately sent me to collections. After dealing with other schools, I can say that a school that harasses parents over dubious fees is not in a situation to stop harassment from students and in my case it failed to address my needs and the needs of my child. You should be able to trust that a school that is able to properly handle a situation of sexual and physical harassment from one third grader to another - especially when it was a repeated occurrence over the majority of the school year. Go back to focusing on the children over the bottom line. read more

My older child attended school here till 5th grade. My younger child was there till 2nd grade. This review is only for the ECE and lower school. The school has middle and high school as well. ECE is a great program. It is comprehensive and provides lot of opportunities for social emotional growth with a right balance of academics. My children thrived. Preschool, tk and kindergarten program is highly recommended. Elementary school PROS: The school offers preschool, elementary, middle and high school if you want that consistency. The campus is very open and spacious. The campus is growing so even better. The school really develops a sense of community. Children take pride in being oakwood hawks. Staff have great communication. Any concerns, questions are addressed promptly and teachers are really supportive. CONS: Academic program is not what we expect out of private school. School focuses more on fine arts, like drama music etc than core science math. STEM is weak. We had to supplement to keep our children on track Children are made part of way too many events at school. There is always a play to watch, sports event. This would be fine if it did not take away from the core subjects. All teachers are not same. Some are fully qualified professionals while others are not qualified to teach. School should really invest in retaining and recruiting fully qualified staff. The campus is OPEN. They spend fundraising and lots of other funds to expanding campus but should seriously look into having a closed campus and security on site, especially during the times we live in. The lack of diversity in student body. Majority of the families/kids are Caucasian. The school we are currently has children that are white, asians etc. just helps children develop a worldview. So many children are redshirted. So in any given grade there will be children who are sometimes even more than year apart in age. Our current school most children are same age in a grade and it makes a huge difference . The children are developmental similar in physical, emotional etc domains. I never realized this till we left the school. Overall, it is a decent school but there is definitely room for improvement read more

I did not choose any schools lightly. If you followed my previous preschool reviews, I've gone to THREE parent-participation coops concurrently just to compare which is the best for my child. I went to IVF clinics up and down the coast to compare protocols of every doctor to see who rules supreme. Choosing a Lower School for my daughter is no exception, we went to almost 20 schools from Menlo Park to Morgan Hill to see which one fits her profile the best, and I am happy to report I landed at Oakwood. I live in the catchment area of the highest performing public K-12 schools in Santa Clara County, and I give them up over a heartbeat to drive south 30 miles every day. Let me first elaborate on the criteria of selecting a school. I don't want a school where knowledge is packed and compressed to be crammed into these fast developing little brains. I don't want a school full of competitive tiger parents who are constantly comparing which kid can master math operation by age 6. I don't want learning to be turned into a series of drills, and my daughter can only derive satisfaction from scoring a 10. And I don't want a child stressed, depressed, basing her self worth entirely on whether she can get into an Ivy. However, I do want a serene, expansive campus basked in the morning glory, where classrooms are spacious, bright lit and facilities abundant. I want discipline, respect and honesty to be instilled at a very young age, and most importantly an inspired mind that always churns out inquisitive, original questions and rejoices in the process of finding an answer. I want a very small class, a true luxury nowadays, that fosters strong bonding among the children and ample attention from the teacher. I also want supportive and more laid back parents who understand that bringing up children is half work, half going-with-the-flow; and our parenting goal is not about where they go to college, but how they find their unique calling and inner strength. Oakwood has delivered for me. I am not saying the school is perfect. Those who are Challenger fans may find the academic curriculum less, well, hasty, but Oakwood's Lower School is by all means much more advanced than my high performing public school. Incidentally, Oakwood is also adapting very quickly and ramping up academic rigor, it recently switched to Singapore Math and revamped Lower School language art curriculum. What I particularly like is the plethora of opportunities to be exposed to performing art from preschool onwards, hopefully it will round out the edges of my daughter's STEM-oriented DNA. Oakwood also reminds me of my coop experience where parents are enthusiastically involved and supportive of each other, making it more of a tight-knit community than just an institution where you drop off your kid and be done. I find this little gem very precious amidst the cut-throat, intense academic jujitsu of many so-called high performing public and private schools in the area, while the percent of clinically depressed students keeps escalating. Don't get me wrong, I don't want my daughter to shun competition, I just want her to be grounded in her pursuits and compete on her own terms. And here is where the grounding will happen. read more

Choosing Oakwood for my children has hands down been the best decision I ever made. The school is beautiful, the staff is amazing and my son has made leaps and bounds academically since starting last year. From the front office staff to the teachers who work with my son everyday, I am incredibly thankful for the warmth and support they have shown him. I cannot speak enough wonderful things about the ECE program, although I am sure that elementary and beyond are just as stellar. We moved both of our daughters out of the public school system to Oakwood. Our older daughter started Oakwood first, in 4th grade (and is now in 5th grade), and our younger daughter followed this year and is in 1st grade. The choice to make the move stemmed from a variety of reasons. One was that our older daughter wasn't being challenged enough at her prior school. She was always looking for more information, more input, more things to learn. The teaching methods at Oakwood, the teachers, the enrichment classes (loves drama and art especially) and the curriculum seem to have allowed her to do just that. She is thriving and thoroughly enjoys her time at school. The teachers are attentive and creative and genuinely care about the students. In general, I don't feel like the homework is too heavy and it isn't just busy work. Our older daughter is also a bit reserved and can be shy. After only a few months at Oakwood, she seems to be coming out of her shell and showing more confidence. I think she feels safe with her peers at Oakwood. After only a few months here, she told me that she had so many more friends at this school than she did at her old school (where she was from Kinder through 3rd and her best friends went there still). She further explained that she felt like all of the kids in her class were her friends and her old school only the few close friends felt like friends. She doesn't feel very comfortable around kids that bend/break the rules or are otherwise "naughty" and I can say there aren't many kids like that at Oakwood. After a great first year at Oakwood for our older daughter, we decided to move our youngest as well. I can't say we were unhappy with her prior school, we were actually pretty content and our daughter was very happy. The choice to make the move was based on our older daughter's success there (both academically and emotionally) and the culture we were starting to learn more about at Oakwood. The positive environment won us over and we were eager to have our youngest start. She wasn't sure about the move and was very nervous, but also excited to be going to school with her sister. She is, of course, enjoying Oakwood just as much as her sister and is excited about all of the enrichment classes. She's made some good friends and loves her teachers (as do I). read more

This is our 5th year at Oakwood. My daughter is now a 4th grader. The teachers, staff, and the safe environment Oakwood provides are the main reasons we picked Oakwood, and we are so glad we did! My daughter continues to thrive at Oakwood. She is so happy and confident! She has such a bond with her classmates. We love the hands-on learning and the things she's learning outside of textbooks. I just wanted to get this off my chest, we were trying to get into this school and the middle school principal single out my son for the school he went to prior and made a whole slew of accusations about my son, none of which were true, so just letting you know that you passed up on a great child who would have brought a whole lot to your school, as he is a straight A student and on the principals honor roll, I would say to everyone looking at this middle school to run. read more

The community at Oakwood was one of the things that impressed me most when deciding on a school for our children. I was looking for a preschool where they could continue seamlessly to higher grades, would be challenged academically, and where learning through play and hands-on activities was embraced-all of these aspects are fostered at Oakwood school, but so is a strong sense of community. The students are reminded that they are citizens and a part of: the school, the town, and the world. When I saw the middle and high school students come out of class to watch and clap for the pre-school costume parade at Halloween I knew without doubt we'd made the right choice. The teachers at Oakwood encourage the students to achieve their best while nurturing the student as a person. It's refreshing to see teachers with so much heart and passion. Oakwood also has great enrichment classes - an art studio, science lab, elementary drama performances-each with specialized instructors. I liked that my Kindergartener would be traveling to Spanish class with a dedicated Spanish teacher, and would be conducting experiments and making observations in a functional science lab. The administration and faculty are very present, involved, and approachable. The middle and high schools have active sports programs, there are interesting field trips K-12, heartfelt community events throughout the school year, and an abundance of competent and caring adults and students across a beautiful campus. My daughter transferred into Oakwood for sixth grade. Within 2 weeks, I could tell it was the right choice. Her excitement for school returned, as she was finally feeling like she was learning something new (instead of just review of what she had already learned). Everyone has been welcoming and approachable. My daughter has always liked science but now she loves it. They have a very engaging curriculum, with teachers that are passionate about what they teach. My boys have had an amazing experience at this school. The educators are exceptionally good and set standards that are high, but achievable. The community is excellent, and the campus and extracurricular offerings are great. read more

My children have attended this school since preschool. The teachers are amazing, my kids are well educated, happy, balanced individuals. The kids support each other in every way possible and are one big family. New students are always welcome with open arms by our kids and made to felt like part of the family immediately. I really can't say enough positive things about this school. If you want your kids, safe, happy, and well rounded, this is the place. read more
