I had an appointment recently & was devastated at the lack of attention or care I received. I was seen by Francesca Zink in Baltimore MD & she allowed the constant interruption of another practitioner entering the room while I was nude & men were around. She didn't wait for a response before opening the door more than once. She also was talking about another patient in front of me interrupting my appointment. I didn't feel heard and was brushed off when explaining my concerns. I eventually gave up on getting help. The only passion & care I felt was in her suggestion of an injection that may or may not do anything. It felt like the sale of this injection was her priority. It is really hard to muster the courage to constantly show up for yourself when dealing with chronic issues, this experience was very triggering. I don't recommend it. read more

I went there and requested hairline injections which I did not receive after Dr. Lauring recommended taking Minodixil (pills). She recommended this medication based upon her previous clients results. However I was not i formed that this would need to be a lifelong medication and that if i stopped taking the medication that my hair would shed. I have lost an unhealthy amount of hair. My hair is now brittle and sheds daily. Yes, I should have done my research first but she recommended this medication without letting me know the biggest risk, losing hair if I stopped taking the medication. Not to mention the increased heart and weight gain. I won't be returning. read more

Billing issues continue to plague Dr. Lauring's office and I was also misdiagnosed-PATIENT BEWARE!!! I went to Dr. Lauring for a consultation on what I believed to be hair loss. I wasn't sure what was causing it and I was desperate for answers. I hadn't been able to get an appointment with my longtime dermatologist, so I gave her a try After a brief visual exam, Dr. Lauring explained she thought I had a condition called Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia, also known as scarring alopecia and "hot comb" alopecia. She suggested 3 months od steroid injections and said that I could begin that day. I immediately questioned her about how it would be billed. When I completed the office check-in procedures, I noticed 1 of the forms stated that you could not be seen for an exam and be treated during the same visit. If you chose to, basically you would have to pay the office visit copay and be balance billed for the rest after your insurance company paid. I've worked in managed care/health insurance field for my entire career of 20+ years. Many insurance companies will "bundle" or combine charges for several procedure codes (i.e. office visit, drug, procedure) together and charge 1 copay that encompasses them all. While I know every doc office and every insurance company isn't the same, when I saw her office policy on the form, I called it into question immediately. So much so, I took a pic of the form intending to ask about it before I left. When the doctor suggested starting injections that day, I explained that was a contradiction to the policy I read, showed her the picture of the form, and specifically asked if my $40 copay would cover everything. She assured me it would twice! I went ahead with the injections that day. You can imagine how angry I was when I received a bill for $60 for the injections. I had paid my $40 copay the day of my appointment so why the extra charge? I called the office and spoke with the manager. I explained how when Dr. Lauring suggested being treated that day I asked about how it would be billed twice. I went on to explain that when I asked if the $40 would cover everything, she said "Yes". The office manager explained reiterated the policy and in a nutshell told ne, despite what Dr. Lauring told me, the doctor doesn't handle billing and I was still responsible for the extra charge. What a crock! That was bad enough, but I followed up with my regular dermatologist and it got even worse. Rather than hair loss, my dermatologist confirmed that what I was experiencing was hair breakage, not loss. I did not have any spots where my hair was completely gone. There was still hair coming from all of my follicles, it was just much shorter in the areas of concern. It had broken off, in some areas a few mm from the follicle. One horrible billing experience, one misdiagnosis, and one of three monthly injections later, and there I was with no progress. Thankfully my regular dermatologist prescribed shampoo and a topical compound to apply to my scalp. My hair began to grow back healthy and very strong in the affected areas almost immediately. While Dr. Lauring was good about samples for any meds, and giving proper advice on caring for skin, when my insurance refused to cover a certain topical medicine, and I suggested we try something else instead, she refused to listen to me and dug in. I could never get my insurance to agree to cover it, and I couldn't buy it outright at the pharmacy because it was over $300. I don't have that just laying around. If my doc can't work with me finding a treatment that's effective AND affordable, I'll go elsewhere. read more

I loved Dr. Lauring, to the extent that when she opened her own practice and switched locations, I would Uber to her new office, and was a patient for 12 years. I had about a $20 billing balance that I got in the mail and figured I would handle at my next appointment, I had spent thousands of dollars over the years so never expected that missed copay to be a huge issue. When I learned my sister's melanoma had come back and was now stage 4, I only wanted Dr. Lauring to check me, since she knew the situation, had been seeing me for years, had already removed a mole, etc. Her staff basically said I had been "fired" as a patient for that small balance. I asked to talk to the office manager, and I begged her to tell Oanh it was me trying to get in and the reason why. The manager hung up on me twice, then said she had consulted with Dr. Lauring before hanging up the third time. It was shocking. I could not believe any Doctor could be that insensitive to shut down a patient of over a decade that calls crying and has no history of not paying for things outside of a tiny fee. Very frustrated with the billing etc. through Dr. Lauring's office and Mercy. Turns out they have a new policy where you have to pay $25 per visit to the hospital (in addition to the co-pay). I wasn't thrilled about paying the fee, but I did at both my appointments. Imagine my surprise when I get a notice from a collections agency just a few days ago. After leaving a message (no returned call) last week, I finally spoke with someone. After 20+ minutes we finally figured out that I had not been receiving notices of an unpaid bill. Except, I did pay the bill..AND even though I have proof of payment in the form of a cashed and scanned check, they could not it in their records. Instead of checking farther on their end, it's now my responsibility to print and mail the proof. Very frustrating. Urg. read more

I have suffered from hidradenitis suppurativa for well over a decade before I went to Lauring Dermatology, I tried every antibiotic known to man and all it left me was ill and still in pain from the disorder. I tried Lauring Dermatology based on a recommendation from my co-worker and they tried something different, a biological that actually worked and it changed my life. Lauring is very knowledgeable, albeit a little short with and fast with responses. Her staff is great, they run a pretty tight ship, so don't show up late. The place is very aesthetically centered, at the same time they care a lot about skin health. I highly recommend this derm, the reason for the 4 stars is one bad experience showing up 5 minutes late and having to wait an hour for a checkup. I do like having grace periods, but I learned my lesson here! read more

Even before COVID it was hard to get an appt with this office. So that's no excuse. I guess I just need to find another doctor. At one point before COVID she was scheduling 3-6 months out. So I did my research and decided to make an appointment with Dr. Lauring. Dr. Lauring examined my skin and explained to me that I had Rosacea. She explain what the disease is and different treatment options. She also took the time to explain how the medicine would work. I have continued to go to Dr. Lauring for all my Dermatology needs. I saw Dr. Lauring last week, after struggling with moderate to severe eczema, most of my life. She noticed that I also have recently developed rosacea and prescribed me three medicines to treat both conditions. My insurance company told me it would take 4-6 weeks, to authorize the one medicine, and I called Dr. Lauring's office for help. Less than 24 hours later, the pharmacy let me know that it has been approved and filled. I've already noticed a dramatic improvement just from using the samples Dr. Lauring's office provided, and could not be more impressed with the high level of care they have shown me. read more

I wanted to change my dermatologist so I decided to try Dr Lauring out recommended by my friend's mother. I was getting some acne on my face and I wanted to get a prescribtion that worked in the past for me. For my first appt, It was hard finding the place even with a GPS. I called the office for a description of the building and the person who picked up wasnt very helpful. When I finally walked through the door, the front desk people were somewhat friendly. They took my forms and I sat down. They called me into the office no less than 15 mins which was great. When Dr, Lauring walked in, she started telling me all the things that she would prescribe me . She didnt ask me any questions. She was talking so fast, I couldn't even say a word. It was very annoying and when I cut her off she looked at me weird. Anyways, At the end of the day , I didnt really get the prescription that I wanted. She had something else for me to use. I told the assistant that I would still need that prescription and she said she would let the doctor know. I am currently using the drugs. I am waiting for results. I am scheduled to see her in 4 weeks. read more

Dr. Lauring knew about my father's death from Melanoma, and about my extensive sun damage from repeated sun burns received since child hood. Two years ago, I showed her a mark on my face that I wanted removed. It was a small mass of freckles (about the size of the first digit of a pinky finger) with a white spot below it. I am very freckly, and the whiteness made the mark stand out. It had appeared suddenly, and I assumed it was an age spot (I am 46). Dr. Lauring looked at it briefly and handed me a brochure on cosmetic freckle removal. She said I would have to have my whole face done because a larger white patch would stand out more than the one I had. I opted to live with the blemish. I continued to see Dr. Lauring for annual check ups and botox to my forehead every four months. She looked at my face each time, of course, but never mentioned the blemish. After my visit two weeks ago, I returned to my car, looked in the mirror and said, I have to get rid of that mark. So I went back inside and told her I was ready for the full freckle removal treatment. This time she did look at the lesion. She said it looked strange because of the white spot that can be an indication of a malignancy the body is attempting to reabsorb. (Again, the same mark was there two years ago, and was what I initially complained about). She hemmed and hawed about performing a biopsy, saying she hated to do so because it would leave a scar. Five days later she called to say it was melanoma. I had surgery two days after. There is now a two inch diameter circle missing from my face. I have stitches. In a week I will know if they have gotten it all. If so, they will perform plastic surgery. If not, I will have another skin removal. Dr. Lauring is an enthusiastic cosmetician , but she is not to be trusted when it comes to detecting melanoma. She put my life at risk. read more

I'm very impressed with Lauring Dermatology and all of their staff! First, the office was very clean and completely updated which is not something you typically see in a doctors office - I was very impressed! While I did not personally meet with Dr. Lauring, I met with her P.A. Deb Hewlett. Deb was AMAZING and very honest and thorough throughout my appointment. She was patient and addressed all of my concerns that I had. She took the time to explain the medications diagnosed and helped me understand how and when to use them. I would absolutely recommend Deb Hewlett to anyone I know and I am so relieved to finally find a great dermatologist office in the area! read more

This is a horribly run office. The office staff and manager are rude, lazy, uncaring and unsympathetic. They routinely loose paper work. I have seen them be actively rude to other patients and I have never been treated well. Dr Lauring is always late often in excess of hours. When you finally do get to see her she doesn't listen to you and is distracted. Find any other dermatologist. read more

Been a male patient for years. Dr. Lauring has always been efficient and respectful, and her diagnosis of skin issues has always been accurate with effective treatments. Be there on time, I've never waited past my scheduled visit time. Her staff are very through when they ask of any concerns you have or what you want looked at, pay attention and be accurate and fully describe what is going on, and the type of visit you want (e.g., you don't need full body check or don't want it, say so). Dr. Lauring comes in fully briefed, you don't have to explain twice, she is up to speed, so if you left something out earlier, why? As to billing, co-pay has always been to cover office visit and charges for any treatment(s) performed either that same day or another day have always been separate bills, accurate and correct, as I experience with every other provider and their billing. As to very old Mercy Hospital bills, that double billing is long over that's why her practice is not separate, it saves to be decoupled from the hospital billings. read more

In addition to other reviewers, I am VERY frustrated with the billing process. I have insurance and am more than willing to pay what I owe. However, a cancer screening is 100% covered by my insurance. Because this office bills using a "New Patient" code and not a screening code my insurance company is not paying the bill. I have reached out to the office manager, Tina, numerous times will no call back. I have to leave angry messages to get any response at all. I have worked in the medical field and know of the processes needed to bill. My biggest issue with this office is there unwillingness to help. I have had to be the middle man between billing and the insurance company. I am not familiar with the codes. All it would take is a simple call from their office to be able to determine exactly what the insurance needs but they are unwilling to do so. Not only are they unwilling but they are extremely rude. I just received a call from the billing company Lauring Dermatology uses and the lady said, "well they work for you b/c you pay them and it is not my responsiblity." Have you heard of yelp? or decent customer service? I hope this reaches numerous potential customers and they realize what a hassle it is to deal with the office manager from lack of responses and follow through or the outside billing department who is unwilling to do anything outside of their day-to-day paperwork. Dr. Lauring did a thoughough review of my skin and moles, she discussed all aspects of the condition of my skin and how to protect it from sun damage.. She pent extra time showing me various products available over the counter at stores. She was excellent at providing all the information I needed. read more

This office is a joke. It is now 6 months after my chemical peel that left me with terrible scarring on my forehead because dr Lauring used to strong of chemical for my first peel. Do not go to this office. I am now 3000$ out of pocket trying to get these scars fixed with laser treatment. If you want things done right go see Dr Robert Weiss at md laser skin and vein in hunt valley. The worst thing of all dr Lauring would not take responsibility for what she did and told me it all looked fine. What a joke read more
