Oasis Apartments has it's pros and cons. I lived here for 9 months and my experience was, well, generally cons.
The pros:
Gated, underground parking.
Gated, underground guest parking (limited, but very helpful!)
Intercom access/entry.
Large pool.
Large spa.
Decent gym, with 2 TVs running DirecTV.
Great hot water in apartments.
Great AC during the hot summer months.
The cons:
The Tenants.
Half the people living there are shady. I've encountered blatant pot users, people staring from the balconies while I was using the pool, others having loud parties on weekends in the patio (lots of alcohol), and possible drug dealers. On multiple occasions I've seen 2 men leaving something to wedge the emergency exits open so someone else can enter without a key or without going through the lobby. The other half are people who have jobs, have younger kids, and are just living their lives.
The Apartments.
You can hear everything. People fighting, people laughing, TVs blasting, music playing, babies crying, doors slamming, dogs barking, you name it. If it makes a peep, you can hear it. Also, don't ever live anywhere near Sepulveda (west side of the complex)! Fire trucks, ambulances, and police sirens abound! As do morning and evening helicopters reporting traffic on the 405. If you're a heavy sleeper, or slightly deaf, then by all means, try your luck at a good night's rest.
The Management.
Frank and Letty are the two on-site managers while I was living at Oasis. They are both very friendly people, who will smile and say, "Hi." They are also not the hardest working people I've met. On one occasion, the power went out and several cars were stuck in the garage (myself included) and many more we stuck outside because the gate was inoperable. Obviously, several tenants contacted the managers and both eventually appeared. Frank was very upset about having to hand crank the garage gate open, saying he was late for a gig (he's a musician on the side) and shouldn't have to deal with this sh*t. The entrance to the garage has 2 sides, one to enter and one to exit. He only cranked it far enough to open the entry side, and then took off. Letty then appeared and just watched traffic. As I was waiting to leave, I noticed the car in front of me said something to Letty. As I approached, I said that it was dangerous to only have half of the gate open, and she rolled her eyes and started yelling, "You're fine!" then looked back at the cars waiting to enter the garage and continued yelling, "You're all fine ok! I'm here! You're fine! Just go! It's fine!"
On another occasion, my boyfriend was in the guest parking waiting for me. When I arrived he was in a state and said that Letty gave him a lecture about not being allowed to wash cars in the garage. I asked him, "Well were you washing your car?" and he said, "Of course not! I was wiping a bug off the windshield! But she ran out here and yelled 'No washing cars! No washing cars! Stop right there! You can't wash your car here!' "
On several other occasions, I've heard both managers talking badly about other tenants amongst themselves, as well as badmouthing tenant TO other tenants! Not professional, at all. Both are generally in good moods when they are in the air conditioned office surfing the internet, but as soon as they actually have to do something, their smile disappears.
There are several rules in place and most go unenforced (expect the car washing one, apparently). Oasis Apartments has a No Pet policy, but there are several cats on the complex that like to hang out near the BBQs when someone is grilling, and I've walked by several cats sitting in neighbors' window sills. Also, there are several small dogs on the complex. I tried using the gym ONCE early in the morning around 7:00AM and there was a woman in there doing yoga on her iPad with her small dog in the gym. It had a harness on but it wasn't on a leash, it was just roaming around the gym. I like animals, but not in the gym.
Overall, would I recommend someone live here? Probably not. read more
