Rarely do you find a business where the people are hard working and the job is beyond expectation! OB Sod blew us away!!! We thought these businesses no longer exist! Johnny gave us an estimate, he was extremely knowledgable and even spied snake eggs under a bush for me! They showed up on the dates promised, despite rain and tropical storms, worked hard for 2 days with removal and replacement of sod in our front and back yard!!! Above and beyond expectations! Tim or whatever his name is (he didn't even introduce himself- zero professional skills) shows up at 11 AM and tells me that my gate is too narrow for a wheelbarrow. The lack of critical thinking and problem solving skills were echoing in his empty head. I thanked him and I told him that he is definitely making things up. Pictures are from the day after installation & I have the best lawn on the street. Everyone I spoke to was so nice & easy to work with. THIS IS NOT THE COMPANY TO PURCHASE SOD FROM!!! I purchased 2000 ft.² of sod from them a year ago. The green sod was on top and all of the brown stuff underneath... Like when you purchase pork chops and you get the good ones on top and the terrible ones underneath. We immediately called the company and advised of the problem and they advised to use the sod anyways as it would come back. They told us it was brown from being cut, but it would become green again. We ended up doing a smaller yard because so much of the sod was dead. We ended up cutting the green parts and put them together like a puzzle. We also had to make a much larger landscape bed because we didn't have enough good sod to use. We asked them to pick up all of the brownest parts (an entire pallet) and they never did. We had to dispose of little by little and let me tell you-what a HEADACHE!!! Johnny from OB told us not to fertilize last summer and to just water when the sun was not out. He said to wait until next year to fertilize. We bought two large tripods and watered the grass every evening with the exception of the days that it rained. We did fertilize this season as advised. The grass is DEADER than ever. Btw-the only green in the lawn are WEEDS! Johnny made up every excuse in the book, blaming us and ultimately telling me that our area is not conducive for a lawn. Ironically, we have a green front lawn-an area where we did NOT remove old grass. In a nutshell, this company sold us dead sod, blamed us for their shortcomings and have caused us thousands of dollars in loss as we paid for the sod, the water, the tripods, the fertilizer, and now we have to remove the old sod and replace it with new. The only thing he offered us was 200 ft.² of new sod. Let me tell you, this grass is definitely greener on another side!!! read more

I had OB Sod/Garden Center install a front lawn for me about 14 years ago. This time I just needed to patch some areas on the lawn so figured I would order a pallet from them for the areas that needed to re-done. (Most of the lawn is fine.) The pallet arrived and didn't look too good. Of course the driver was long gone after dumping it off. There were a lot of dried clippings which I naively believed were providing nutrients and were supposed to be there. We were told to spray for bugs and fungus which we did. We were also told to lay the sod immediately to prevent the sod from drying out. We wasted no time getting it down and had just finished laying the last few pieces when the heavens opened up and it rained for 2 straight days. We couldn't believe our good luck. We continued intense watering twice daily with our automatic sprinklers as well as with area specific sprinklers and hoses to spot water as the grass wasn't changing appearance from yellow to green. I rang OB on the 10th day now really worried that the grass wasn't growing or changing colour. I was asked to forward pics. The first person indicated in a voice mail that the grass looked "dehydrated" and questioned how long our sprinklers run for (they run for an hour). Anyway, how is "dehydration" even possible with all the watering we've been doing? I called later and spoke with someone else who then accused us of over-watering. So which is it? Under watering? Over watering? You can see in the pics below how healthy my established grass looks. Why did this grass NEVER look healthy, even upon delivery? I believe because we were a small customer in this instance, that they sold us garbage. They save the good stuff for full installations. The man who I spoke with today - Jose - was aggressive, rude and very argumentative. One thing he mentioned was that there was a drought on the sod farm in South Florida. Is that my fault? Does that make it ok to sell me grass in this condition? Customer service obviously doesn't exist where he comes from. Every last thing was twisted around and argued over, it was unreal. read more

First off, I wanted to thank Oscar, the owner, for his prompt call this morning and to Jenni for their quick resolution of an issue we had. The true mark of a great company is how they respond when something doesn't go quite right, and these guys were responsive and easy to work with. Their employees that did the sod installation were very friendly and did a clean job of installing everything. It looks very even and the sod was of good quality. The lawn looked great the same day they finished it. Better yet, we got hit with a huge rain the same night they wrapped up, and our new sod did a great job of helping with our erosion and runoff problems. Hector, who came out to our house and bid the job, was also very nice and easy to work with. He was great about taking my calls, even after hours or calling me back promptly if he was busy. He took the time on over 12 separate conversations via phone, text and in person to make sure that we had the right square footage and that he clearly understood what areas we wanted covered. He also worked with his team during the install to make sure that they raked everything even to give our lawn a nice grade to help with our water runoff issues. I am very glad that I chose OB Sod and will use them again in the future if I need to add more sod to other parts of our yard. The people at OB Sod are friendly and personable. They killed off my old lawn and installed new sod for me. The sod was first rate. The install was not the best. They didn't kick the sod to get a snug fit. When I mow the lawn, it's like I'm rolling over railroad tracks even now a year later. My main problem with them is with their lawn care service. I hired OB Sod to install sod at my new house. The installation started on April 22nd. I was told by the Supervisor to make sure to water properly, do not use any fertilizer until the sod is established, do not have it cut until atleast one month and to make sure that the first cut is kept high. The sod looked great! It was lush and green. After 2 weeks, I noticed what looked like little stalks of wheat. I contacted the Supervisor and told that was normal. ...ok Exactly one month after the install (May 22nd) , I hired a landscaping company to do the first cut. I instructed them to cut the sod high. After it was cut, I immediately noticed that the sod looked lighter green and brown underneath. The next day, I noticed that there were caterpillars all over the sidewalk, patio areas, and crawling up the side of the house. I immediately placed a call to the Supervisor. Since it was Memorial day weekend, I never received a call back. The entire lawn was saturated with these caterpillars. I had to go online and do research to find out what this could be. I found out that these were sod webworms and could destroy the entire lawn within days. Since I never heard back from the OB Sod Supervisor, I went to Home Depot and bought a fungicide that works on those particular type of caterpillars. When the Supervisor finally contacted me, I suggested that the sod was installed with this problem. He claims that was not the case and sod webworm is rare right now....not the season. I was told to have it sprayed immediately. (PS....He claimed that we had the sod installed 2 months ago...I had to correct him) BE AWARE..... OB SOD ONLY PROVIDES A 30 DAY WARRANTY read more

Excellent customer service and beautiful sod! We hired OB Sod to install Bimini Bermuda sod in our front yard. From start to finish, OB Sod and their employees were professional and courteous. Johnny responded to our questions via text. He was there the day of our install to ensure work quality. He also came back a week or so after install to check and make sure the sod was taking. I had back yard resodded with St. Augustine with a storm on the way. I asked Hector if this was a good time to install, his answer was yes. I got contract and said no warranty on lawn. I asked why he said just the time of year but no worries. Grass was installed and supposedly pot Ash and fungicide was applied , no legal paperwork. The lawn developed bad fungis and the installers actually installed dead pieces of sod. Hector came out said he would replace dead sod and Hector said chemical was applied but never produced paperwork. Now my lawn co had to apply pot Ash insect and fungicides 3 times . I am loosing my lawn , which cost $2600 . Hector is ignoring me now. There was 2 pallets of sod left, I paid for the sod and asked for it. I had to call Hector to have his guys leave approx. 20 pieces. They kept approx 1 1/2 pallets that I paid for. I would never use OB Sod. Hector should of warned me that the major storm can increase the fungus in sod that already had fungis. Then to not come back with the new pieces of sod and ignore me. My house is for sale and he new it and the yard is a mess. Thanks for terrible communication and sharing your knowledge . My lawn co. said they should of informed me that a tropical storm is not good and wait till after rainy season to install. NOT TO BE TRUSTED. read more

I'm completely satisfied with my new lawn! OB Sod did a fantastic job and it looks really amazing. Very professional staff. Courteous, respectful personnel. The 3 men who installed my lawn were hard workers. I had to call and ask specific questions which weren't previously explained but otherwise very good service. This company came highly recommended by my neighbors who are truly enjoying their own beautiful lawn as well. Also of note, OB Sod is the only company I researched who guaranteed their sod. (There may be others but not within the realm of my research). This requires a reasonable monthly service fee which includes pesticide and fertilizer. They installed sod on my entire lawn 6 weeks ago after they supposedly repaired and adjusted my irrigation system. They cut my Verizon cable and claimed it was my responsibilty. Fortunately I had taken pictures showing the cable line path had been spray painted on the lawn by a utility locator company, and also a picture of the cable laying on the lawn after they pulled it out of the ground. They then laid the sod on top of the cable and then cut it with a machete when they cut a circle around a tree. I had to hand water the lawn every day for 3 weeks because the irrigation system was not properly adjusted. The lawn was immediately besieged with sod webworms resulting in brown spots and half eaten blades of grass. I then paid them to come spray the lawn for the webwords and they said they would be back in 10 days to check the lawn and if necessary respray. That was 16 days ago and they haven't been back. read more

I had Bahia sod installed last year by OB sod. They came out several times at my reguest, about different matters, and each time they were extremely helpful. The sod was brown when it was installed because of the time of year, but it greened up just as they said it would. I have a beautiful yard, and once a few months later the county had to replace part of my sidewalk, which required digging up some yard. I went to OB Sod, and even though my warranty was well out of date, when I told them I needed four peices of sod, they GAVE me ten peices. They have always been extremely helpful, and very courteous. I ordered 6 cubic yards of top soil. Unsure if we were going to grade the yard, sod or seed, I called OB Sod quite a few times with questions and pricing. Each phone call the ladies were informed, patient and answered all my questions quoting exact pricing. What made me choose OB Sod was as I shopped around at other big, local places in South Tampa, those establishments who were in the biz, all had the same thing to say....they're good, fair guys over there. I agree that they're in alignment with the other prices but people in their own industry spoke well about them. So I ordered 6 cubic yards of top soil. It was a dark soil with only small twigs and no rocks. Being unfamiliar with grading a yard, we had to order 4 more. In hindsight, to save money, we could have ordered 6 cy of fill dirt and 4 cy of top soil and saved a lot of money, but we didn't know any better. The delivery guy called 30 minutes before, just like they said he would, and came within the hours that the dirt was promised. The driver was able to put the dirt where we requested. Positive experience overall. I would have given 5 stars if they would have been able to provide a little guidance in how much dirt and what grade of dirt to purchase. Unless you are in this business, I think few people order dirt with any regularity. I asked if someone from OB Sod would come out and quote and they said no. I asked if I could pay for someone to come out to give their best guess, they said no. You have to know what you want, they will not provide any information or guidance to you. They are very polite and know a little bit about sod, but overall they take orders and are not customer service as explained above. The dirt was good, clean dirt. We are going to seed instead of sod, so I think it will work great, just wish we had made a better guess as to how much dirt we needed. We ordered 6 cubic yards and need at least 4 more. THIS COMPANY REALLY WENT THE EXTRA MILE!!!!!!! We had sod installed in our backyard which was all dirt and weeds! The entire process was very easy and went so smoothly! They didn't try to sell us the most expensive sod, but the one that would best suit our needs (shade/sun/high traffic). Everything went as planned - They came out to measure, ordered our sod, delivered our sod and the installers came on the same day the sod was delivered! They worked hard and efficiently to get our sod installed the same day!!!! The price was less than we expected to pay! Buy sod from this business at your own risk. I only needed 3 pallets of Bahia grass to complete a backyard project. Noticed a few slightly brown spots in area but just figured it was dry and ready for watering after laying it. Watered it religiously and waited 4 weeks to mow it at the highest setting on the mower. These previously brown spots had little to no Bahia but loads of crabgrass. After inspecting the sodded area, it appeared that about 30% was mostly crabgrass. I'll have to admit this was 5 weeks after buying it from OB Sod. I called and spoke with Jose Perez, sales manager, and explained what I had. He stated that since they didn't install the sod, it was only warrantied for 4 weeks so he couldn't do anything, except possibly as a courtesy. I thought, great, maybe some help. When I asked if he could stop by to look at it, he said since the Covid 19, he wouldn't leave the office. Now I thought that was rather ridiculous since this was outside, in a back yard but he asked me to text some photos to him and provided me a phone number and email. After sending photos in a text and email and waiting 3 days with no response, I called the main office phone, got Jose who said he never received anything from me. Finally he found it in the unkown sender file. To end the story, OB Sod would not do anything to assist me with the crabgrass infested sod that they sold me. The installer helped me with some sod replacement but I'm now left to try and pull the remaining crabgrass out by the roots to keep it from coming back. As it comes out in clumps, it tears up the sod but hasn't rooted to the dirt below. Had to come with the sod. Thanks OB for your total lack of help. read more

Horrible! The sod (Bahia) on the pallets I ordered had been cut too shallow, so it had minimal roots and almost no soil. The pieces fell apart as i tried to pick them up, so trying to lay the sod was like trying to piece together a jigsaw puzzle in the dark. The manager tried to tell me that that is normal. Its not! I had two pallets from another supplier recently, so I know the difference between good sod and OB Sod. I made the mistake of not waiting until after the holiday, when J****'s came back from their holiday. Don't make the same mistake that I did. Avoid OB sod. read more

I am a repeat OB Customer as they are close to my home. If you need sod delivered they WILL NOT give you a delivery time. This makes hiring a crew to lay sod impossible as the sod could be delivered anytime and your crew will have to sit around. What kind of company cant give you at least a time frame (morning, afternoon, evening). They explained that this was due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Most companies provide time frames and they have to deal with issues as well. NO EXCUSE here OB. Sod is hit or miss. I have received great sod here and also sod that has had to be picked up. To me, the biggest issue I have is not having a time frame to prepare for and have my workers ready. read more

Dealing with OB Sod with my "small order" was a mistake, I should have just used a smaller company that cares about there customers. I was spoken to by the manager Oscar like I was a raging idiot. He promised me he would call me prior to the day of delivery to let me know if they would have the grass I ordered and payed for, on the morning of delivery (once I personally prepped my yard 6 weeks post-partum) and while my landscaping company was waiting the let me know the grass wasn't available. Not only was he unapologetic and almost offended I ask for ANYthing off of my bill for their mistake but told me I was lying and that they never promised they would tell me what grass I was getting prior to delivery. He was rude rude rude. I cannot stress how put off I am by their lack of respect for small scale customers. Not to mention they told me after a 5 minute conversation that was offensive and a waste of time that the "line was being recorded because I finally called the manager an a**hole and thats when I said well if the lines are recorded you should be able to go and listen to our previous conversation where I was promised something you now are telling me I was never promised" and they had nothing to say about that. read more

I ordered a couple pallets of St Augustine. The sod was supposed to be delivered fresh from the field in the afternoon. It was delivered first thing in the morning. If it came straight from the field it was grown yellow instead of green. I nursed it for a month or so and then let it die so I can replace it. I think I got what they needed to get rid of and paid full price. If I were to install again, I would go pick up the pallets myself from a sod farm. Best to pay for an install with a reputable company that will back up the product. Even for just a couple pallets. read more
