HORRIBLE employees! We came after a fun filled days with our special olympics kids to have a nice treat. The staff was rude, short with us and had NO interest in being nice people. One of the things that intrigued me of Oberweis advertises themselves as "super premium" ice cream. What this means is that it uses 1 part air to two parts cream and they used 18% butterfat. What does this mean? It's 200% delicious. Sometimes my wife catches meat eating a slice of butter or drinking heavy whipping cream. What can I say? I love cream and this is probably why Oberweis resonates with me. I sampled several flavors (including some limited small batch flavors) but the best was the strawberry. It was actually tart like I like my strawberry ice cream. The ice cream is super rich and creamy...something I thought was only achieved by making custard (which uses eggs). Now for price... Others complain but the actually ice cream is affordable. Slightly more expensive than Baskin Robbins per scoop. My single scoop was 3.89$. It's when you get into the specialty items like sundaes, shakes, and drinks that things start to get really pricey. After our first trip, its safe to say we are fans! I had a craving for something sweet after dinner and so we stumbled here because they were one of the few places open at that time. I had their chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and my husband had one of their frosties. Let me say, they have some of the best, most creamy ice cream i've ever had! I dont know what it is about them but their ice cream is unique and unlike anything i have had before. Service was really friendly, the place is clean (given its new, but still). As soon as we walked it, the atmosphere of this IL favorite is very welcoming. Kayla greeted my nephew and I by offering the menu and sample of any flavor. I tried the cookie n cream which was rich and velvety smooth. My nephew sampled and brought the soft serve vanilla with sprinkles. The restaurant/Store was very stocked with many Oberweis products at reasonable price to take home. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant for you enjoy your sweet treat prior to leaving with few board games on the table. I got a scoop of Honey Pecan on a plain cone. The scoop was large but the price was steep at a little over $4 after tax. I enjoyed the creaminess and the freshness of the dairy that was used. It really came out with every bite. However, by the end of the cone, The sweetness became overbearing. It was so sweet that I couldn't even finish it. Oberweis....not happy at all!!!! I don't like to be a Negative Nelly, but after cleaning up after a sick child... I must explain. This evening my daughter had a few friends over, and we rode to That Burger Joint for dinner. After dinner, we went to Oberweis for ice cream. My daughter has a peanut allergy. So as we normally do, we let them know when ordering. . Even after ordering....the manager came out saying his son also had a peanut allergy, etc. We understand they cannot guarantee this so My daughter is very careful in what she orders. She ordered a kids' shake with Oreos. As soon as she started eating, she thought it tasted funny. I am her tester and didn't notice anything. I thought she was being paranoid in her first few bites. Low and behold her lips began to get puffy, she said her tongue felt tingly, and I found a chocolate covered peanut butter candy inside it. Having ridden bikes, I didn't have the epipen. I called My husband to bring the Benadryl and Epipen. I then talked to the manager. I said, "I just need to let you know my daughter did have peanut butter in her shake." Again he tells me the soft serve vanilla ice cream comes from a machine, and he opened a new bag or Oreos. Huh? Then how did the pb get there? Last time I checked it didn't come filtering out in a vanilla soft serve cone or in a box of Oreos. She and her friends decided to write letters and NOT put a sticker on it. That will show them. Lol! After taking her friends home, she broke down crying telling me how scared she was and telling me her tummy hurt. She told me she thought about not being able to breathe and wake up.
