So, pretty much, I was wayyy skeptical of a spray tan being a guy. I had looked at other places with no sincere thoughts of actually following through and going. I knew that tanning beds were bad for you, especially with as much time as I spend in the sun at work. I was looking for a healthy alternative, but not mentally ready for a 'spray' tan. I had never had one before. So I find this spot on yelp, and it has good reviews, so eventually (weeks later) I finally decide to get a spray tan, and this is the place I will go, plus, you can't beat the price. I get there...and the owner is sitting behind the desk and greets me with a huge smile. I Immediately felt comfortable, but still skeptical. I asked if I could have a spray tan (I dont know the standard procedure for these places, but I do now) She said SURE! come on in. She gave me the instructions about lotion, and 6-8 hours before I shower, that I had already read online.. yadda yadda... made me wayyy more comfortable. She kept making small talk, and easing me in to the whole process. Now the spray...Im half naked, and this girl is pointing a gun at me...but Im okay with that...she had already made me feel at home...She starts doing her thing and making do certain poses to get the crevises...I abide. At the end I feel sticky, yet wayyy tan and IDEAL. Im liking what I see in the mirror, but Im sticky. She tells me that I have to wait 6-8 houts before I shower...but I came in after work...I have to sleep in this??? I leave...and not more than 1 hour later, the stickiness is gone and I feel great, plus it smells like fruity pebbles...delicious... I wake up the next day, shower, and see all the solution go down the drain...I think to myself...WTF?!?!?! I get out of the shower, look in the mirror, and I see a perfectly even tan, like I had spent the day at the lake without the sunburn...I was more than pleased and have been back 2 more times since...I was 'splotchy' once, but thats because I went to the gym right after (bad idea) but she let me come back and touched me up for free...Please dont go here, I dont want it to get to busy to take me... 5 STARS!!! read more

I heard about this location through friends and i was so pleased after I received my spray tan. the solution is organic and Marissa is so helpful by blending the right color for you. The solution doesn't smell bad and lasts about a week and a half to two weeks. it depends how well you take care of your spray tan. I would definitely recommend this tanning salon to anyone who wants a natural, even, and gorgeous tan. I saw the reviews for Obey the Spray before I went in for the first time. The reviews were right, this place is great. It's tucked in a little off the main road but it's so worth it. The place is clean and decorated with clean colors and cute decor. I was greeted with a genuine smile and both Marissa and Karissa are super friendly, which is great when you are in the vulnerable position of standing naked in front of them. They mix their own solution so you can ask for a mix of light and medium, or whatever shade you'd like. I prefer the "natural" solution because I'm so light to begin with (sometimes it's hard being Scandinavian) and after 5 hours I've got a beautiful glow!The solution is all natural so I didn't have any breakouts! After my first session I immediately purchased their monthly deal and I have been going all summer! They use a great online program so I can book my appointment ahead of time and I get an email reminding me of my appointment. Plus, when I wanted to cancel my monthly deal, I got an email right away! I was super skeptical about getting a spray tan but I really wanted to get a nice bronze before my Cancun trip a couple months back. I went for my first tan a couple days before my trip and it was a little weird to be standing ALMOST naked in front of a beautiful young lady, but Marissa was awesome. Last week I saw Obey The Spray's sign sitting out on the street advertising $25 spray tans as I was driving by. I looked down at my farmer tan and decided to go in and check it out. The owner Marissa was busy with people that had made an appointment, but she made me feel very welcome even though I was a walk-in. I was done within 10 minutes! The tan looked really natural and whatever mixture she used smelled great (I was afraid I was going to look like an oompa loompa and smell like nasty chemicals). The location is small and not over the top but the job the girl did on my tan compensates for that. My friend and i went in to take advantage of the "$20 tan per person if you bring a friend" deal. A very mediocre at best tan job, the owner rushed us out and charged us for $50. I was going to tip her $10 for both of us anyway so i didnt make a big scene but really?! They entusiastically send texts about the on-going deals and clearly display the deals on their website which they do NOT honor. I dont know if she "tipped" herself but that was not ethical. And i called the shop number to make an appt. a week ago, still no return call or text back. I am over their unethical and unappreciative way of doing business. I've had my share of spray tans in my day. Some good, some bad. I've been here 3 times now, and I absolutely love it. It's $25 which is unheard of in Newport. The girls are very kind. Great customer service! I would def take their recommendation on color. I tend to think I can take a medium tan, and my girl suggested I mix a natural with medium. The color came out great. I will be the first to admit, I am not the ideal client.. I'm a pasty white chick that loves being tan but I only seem to get around to tanning for super special reasons.. like vacations. Unfortunately the husband I are more prone to spontaneous last minute vacations than preplanning so I've only been to Obey the Spray Tanning twice in the last 16 months. My first visit was the result of an Amazon Local deal. I had no idea what to expect as all my previous sunless tanning was mystic. I'm not a small girl so I kinda liked that it was just me standing in the mystic booth.. but if I ever went darker than level 1 with mystic I was guaranteed to turn orange. So I decided to bite the bullet and give spray tanning a shot. Besides being nervous about getting down to my undies in front of a random stranger, I was apprehensive that the fact that I had purchased my tan on a deal site and be treated as a bargain hunter. From the moment I walked in, Marissa made me feel completely comfortable. She was friendly, professional and didn't seem to mind that I had the deal in the slightest. When I told her I wanted to go with the lightest because anything darker always seemed to make me into a giant pumpkin she assured me that a medium/dark blend would give me the color I've always wanted to be but genetically was incapable of having. I didn't think twice and followed her suggestion. She was absolutely right.. there wasn't even a hint of orange. The color was amazing and it made me look like I'd lost a decent amount of weight. I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror. I followed her aftercare instructions and kept the gorgeous color for almost a week and a half. A year after my first visit the hubby and I were heading to Vegas for a week when it occurred to me that a tan would probably be a good idea if I didn't want to blind people at the pool. I booked an appointment online and headed in the day before we left. I was expecting to be treated as I was on my first visit.. I NEVER expected Marissa to remember that I'd been in before but she did. When we got to Vegas the next day, a friend called her boyfriend over, pointed to my tanned arms and said "This is why I want to move to California. Look at her tan.. it's amazing!"
