We engaged them for bookkeeping services, but not a single bookkeeping entry has been completed for any of our companies they agreed to help us with despite paying for their services for several months. They advised us to move from QuickBooks Enterprise to QuickBooks Online, claiming it would make it easier for them to manage our books. We agreed to this transition, but it turned out to be a huge mistake. Their agreement clearly stated that any additional costs outside the scope of services would be communicated to us in advance for our approval. However, they never informed us of any extra charges. Instead, they sent us an unexpected bill and stopped responding when we inquired about it. This is highly unprofessional and unacceptable. Maxwell CPA billed us on the same day they sent the invoice, leaving us no time to review the additional charges. We also repeatedly asked when they would assist with QuickBooks from another company, which they promised to do, but they never followed through. This company has lost our trust completely. The owner mentioned that the services they are providing are outside of the scope of work in the agreement that we signed. We do not believe it is, as the agreement clearly states that they help us with all bookkeeping and accounting. This falls into that area, and even if it is outside the scope of work, the agreement also clearly states, "if there are matters that arise which are outside of the scope of the above services we will alert you in advance for your approval. If approved, you authorize us to electronically initiate payment for these additional services." They never alerted us of additional charges. We were paying for monthly bookkeeping services, and they did not do any bookkeeping services after a few months of us paying for the service. The owner and staff stopped replying after I mentioned that the contract clearly states that they need to inform us of additional charges that fall outside of the scope of work. They pull the money from our account instantly and before we even had a chance to see the charges. I highly advise others to stay away from Maxwell CPA. This is the only negative review I have ever posted, but I feel it is necessary to warn others about this untrustworthy company. Their lack of communication and unexpected billing practices are a clear indication of their unprofessionalism.

As a recurring payment customer the least I expected was guidance about deadlines for forms and paperwork for a small business. None of the essential forms or documentation were ever submitted and I have been spending months finding all the various things that I hired them for incomplete. Things they never thought to mention. I was handed from One accountant to another, each as disappointing as the last. My annual tax filing was double what it should have been. I paid another service to look at their work, and they were baffled. Maxwell's error cost me $17,000. When I brought up the issue with the owner more than once, they explained it couldn't be their employees' fault because they trusted them, and offered no real options for resolving my frustrations, just that I could discontinue services. Whatever you say, big shoots. Adios. I've never had such expensive, useless "accounting" services in my life. Steer CLEAR if you're a business owner.

We had a third party examine our taxes to verify that they were improperly done, costing us several thousand dollars that we did not owe. After several calls to them and going in person to their office, having them reexamine their work, they stuck by the work they had done. We gave them every opportunity to make things right. Unfortunately, they were unable to help. After going to the third party accountant, she was able to go back to 2018 and refile our taxes from then to now. Not only did we not owe the several thousand we paid in, but we got a refund. Starners did a very sloppy and lazy job with our taxes. We will never file with them again.

Very incompetent and extremely rude. Don't trust them!!! It…read moreused to be a nice business. The advisor we used to work with was very professional and nice. But she left. And it just gets worse and worse. This year I have some new situation. I double checked it with them to confirm if I needed to file a report form on that. And they firmly told me TWICE that it was not necessary to do so. I then ask around friends and google searched (mind you, even Google search is more knowledgeable than them). I downloaded the form from the IRS website (as an amateur myself, as if they are paying me money rather than the opposite), and emailed it to them. They finally admitted that I did have to file that form. It is a simple form that I can finish in 15 minutes( trust me, even though English is not my first language). However, they declared that it was VERY complicated that they needed an extension on my tax return. When I asked why and pointed out their unprofessionalism in failing to recognize the necessity of this form, which could jeopardize my integrity, they got really mad. I tentatively asked them to finish the tax return and the extra form in time without extra charge as an apology. They laughed at me on the phone. They may think it was fun. It actually was. I made myself a joke in trusting people like them. They made all kinds of excuses for their mistakes. They said one thing and then denied it immediately after 5 minutes. They refuse to apologize. They declined to continue working with me in a very rude way just because I questioned their professionalism. But is that true? A simple google search could tell me they were wrong. I of course won't work with them anymore because who knows what kind of forms will be overlooked by them.
