This place is fantastic and well laid out. Easy to find what you're looking for and has a decent variety. Something I really appreciate is the way the cassette tapes are displayed. I came down here a few days ago to purchase a vinyl record for my personal collection just in time for National Vinyl Record Day (Aug. 12th). Obsession Records is a small shop located in a strip mall off of Lake Otis and Tudor just behind the Golden Donuts and next to the Pizza Hut. The shop has a wide variety of vinyl records covering all genres as well as some imports from Europe and Japan. This was my first time setting foot in this shop being that I'm always driving by constantly at this intersection without stopping. The owner gave me a friendly greeting upon entering and encouraged me to take my time to browse around for some good deals. After conversing with him for a few minutes, I could tell he was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about all things vinyl. It definitely showed with the inventory of restored old-fashioned record players, boxes of out-of-circulation vinyl for only $1 each and vinyl box sets, some autographed by the artists, of the Beatles, Metallica, and Led Zeppelin among others. They were priced anywhere between two to three hundred dollars, but these were complete sets, brand new and still shrink-wrapped with the artist's or band's signatures displayed on the front of the box. In addition to the vinyl, they also sell vintage cassette tapes, used CD's and novelty items like handbags with the logos and names of musicians past and present. Records are available for sale either new or used with the new ones double-wrapped for protection. I'm more partial to buying the brand new vinyl if one is available that catches my interest mainly for mint condition and playability. I spent about an hour browsing through the numerous vinyl racks, trying to find an item that I haven't seen or heard for quite some time. I finally came across a gem from Alice In Chains released back in 2009 called Black Gives Way To Blue, one of the best and most underrated albums they have ever made. Being a fan of these guys during high school in the early 90's, this album was a rarity to me meaning that every song on the album, not just the radio-released singles, were great and that their musical style hasn't changed after all these years. This was a great find and I learned that the store constantly receives new and used records every week. If there is an obscure album that can't be found in the store, they can order it for you online as well. They also have an app for your smartphone available where you can get a discount on vinyl after reaching a certain number of purchases. This was a fun family-owned place to visit where you never know what kind of long-forgotten treasures you may come across. read more

Love the shop! I don't know how there aren't more people in here all the time. They have anything you could want, or will get it for you. My 11 yr old wanted a special record and they got it for her. My four year old always runs in and plays with the "keep busy" toys. I always find too much so I have to come back to get more. The staff are friendly knowledgeable and fun. I have fond childhood memories of playing with my dad and momma's old turntable and listening to everything from the Beatles to Les Miserables to Bach to Allman Brothers. Nordstrom's had some event yesterday and we ended up getting a Crosley portable turntable for my daughter as an early birthday gift. Nostalgia overwhelmed me when I opened it and set it up last night but the feeling was not to last because I realized I had nothing to play on it. Not one record. So, much to my delight, I heard about Obsession Records from some friends. Be wary, they're only open from 5-8pm on Mon-Fri but that's not a problem because very few people NEED a vinyl record at 10 in the morning...or at least not enough people to justify running a 9-5 shop. They have longer hours on the weekend. It's run by a family and the matriarch, Verna, was there with her son when we went this afternoon. Delightful little store. Clean and well-kept. Verna explained that her husband opened the store because he had a huge collection and just wanted to open a store. I'd say that's a damn good reason. The selection was phenomenal and the knowledge of this sweet woman and her son was amazing. 5 stars just for the customer service! What hit me the hardest emotionally is that it was my dad (here on vacation), myself, and my daughter - 3 generations - all in one record shop sharing a love of music. We got so much stuff - I got about 10 records for 80 bucks. Unheard of. Who would have thought I'd SAVE money on such a pure and delightful medium!? When we came home and played the inaugural record to break in the Crosley (Queen's Greatest Hits for anyone interested to know), I nearly cried seeing my daughter's face light up. My daughter loves having her own music player and was dancing to "Another One Bites The Dust". Can't wait to put on her Sesame Street album for bedtime later! read more

This record store is a rarity. In that there is very little competition in the " I don't want downloads" generation I'm part of. Simultaneously I suggest you do your research before spending one red cent. At a store that burned me twice. Claiming they had no wrong doing. Marking up vinyl 400% That doesn't sit well with me. A vinyl record that may have at one time been in Peru. Doesn't qualify as a " rare Peruvian import". I have Peruvian friends. Who come from Peruvian parents. And they don't think they are rare. They were born in Alaska. So what? The woman who works there, who is not tied to the owner. Or his wife. Made things copacetic. But simple things like oh I don't know. An old ish daft punk record. I had the cd from '95. Is not worth 30+ dollars on vinyl. Don't get me wrong. I love vinyl. I loved listening to zeppelin at age 8. I cherish my clash combat rock vinyl. I grew up with that. I spent 2 dollars on combat rock. And I have been " on the floor at the boutique". More than once. As a scratcher. And a beat matcher. But I also hate that people see dollar signs and lie about provenance. To a unsuspecting public. read more

The best (only?) vinyl record store in town. A lot of vinyl to choose from - including new releases (who knew?) - and a knowledgeable owner (?) and crew. I'm giving Obsession Records 4 stars because they shamed me for inquiring to buy an inexpensive starter recorder player (a gift) because "you can't experience the real sound with one of those cheap players." Fact is, I could have dropped some serious coin on records and - most likely - a player, but just wanted to start out slow. Now I'm too embarrassed to go back because I did, in fact, buy a cheap player elsewhere (and it's just fine, by the way, for now). For these types of niche shops, when you get someone IN THE DOOR, who wants to buy stuff, I think they should work with that and go from there. I probably won't be back, sadly. But, I'd recommend it to anyone else. (Just don't tell them if you have anything less than a vintage or legit record player.) read more

I am so happy I found a place like this! It's so refreshing to come to a store that truly appreciates their Customers. I'm disabled and they have always taken the time to help me, never making me feel like a bother. Always a smile when I come in, and heck they've always remembered my name. I've purchased a turntable, new needle and rubber mat as well as a few albums since I started shopping at Obsession Records. Instead of up selling me on alignment cards and scales the gentleman allowed me to bring my turntable in and he installed it for me. Charged me absolutely nothing. Who does that now a-days? I highly recommend this store to anyone interested in vinyl. The owners/ staff are knowledgeable have a great selection of new and used vinyl and gear. Also if they don't have what you are looking for they will look for it and get it in for you. They even have toys for little kids to keep them happy while you shop. All in all I wish I could give more than a 5star review, more people need to know about this shop. read more
