First time here and the donuts were SO soft. Probably the softest Ive ever had. (My husband said they were too soft. ) Ive been to many local cider mills, and these seemed a little smaller but much softer. Very quiet vibes, nothing fancy. They have canned/jarred goodies inside along with fresh pies and apple fritters! If you walk to the back area you can watch the donuts fall off the conveyor belt and into the cinnamon "tumbler" then they are bagged up! Tons of spaced out seating outside. Theres a huge open area for kids to play, theres a bin of different balls provided for kids. And theres cornhole for adults. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my dog. Everyone was so incredibly kind and they offered to let my dog run off leash in the orchard. Very clean and there's plenty of seating area inside and out! In the store, I picked up a dozen donuts, half plain and half cinnamon sugar, as well as a caramel apple with nuts and a gallon of cider. Everything was so delicious, especially the cinnamon sugar donuts mmmm. They're smaller than other places, but perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Friendly greeting on entry. Products display in easy to maneuver setting. Doughnuts were still hot when we arrived. Warm crisp outside fluffy soft inside. Apples bagged up in several bags. Different sizes of apples to choose from for your needs small bags up to large. Cider is delicious and not too sweet, no preservatives. Pick up a quart, 1/2 gallon or gallon. The apple pies are made with spy apples perfect for pies. Very good crust. Don't let the sugar dusting on the crust fool you. The pies are not overly sweet. Delicious right amount of sweet pies. Our pie was still warm several hours after we got home. Lawn games outside. Family friendly. Glad we stopped. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

This is a no-frills type of place. Have a nice pastor of land in front of the cider Mill shop, where you can have a little impromptu picnic with some donuts and cider. They have you go into one door and exit out another. They have two staff members running the cashier machine. The apple fritter isn't bad, worth a try. The plain and cinnamon donuts were not my favorite. The cinnamon was quite bad. The Plain doughnut was at least a little bit crunchy, but all of the donuts were frigidly cold. They were probably made today, but they weren't recently. They're Apple cider wasn't too bad. read more

This little hidden gem is a peaceful Haven. It has such a relaxing and calming feel to it. We spent hours there as our kids played. they have a little pumpkin patch, relaxing area and tractor rides on the weekends. they also have apples for picking, but not all were ready yet. Located off of curry road, this cute orchard has a little Store that sells apples, pastries, donuts, wine and cider. They also have a yard full of very large pumpkins for sale and other things to look at plus a hayride if you choose to go on it. It didn't seem like a place that had lots of the attractions that some other orchids like to have, but they kept it pretty basic and it's a nice place to visit quickly to pick up a few things you would want for the fall. read more

Obstbaum's is my favorite metro-Detroit orchard. It is not a circus. If you are looking for an "entertainment complex", instead of a cider mill, this place is not for you! Obsbaum's has a few extras, pumpkins, you-pick (when the fields aren't too wet), hayrides, but what makes them great is the ease of getting in and out with the important stuff: apples, cider, donuts (maybe not in that order)! I love the that they carry so many varieties of apples, and now they offer hard cider and apple wine along with their delicious non-alcoholic cider. They continue to have fresh donuts and some other baked goods, but have dialed back on some savory items (no more empanadas). Service here is easy, even when it's full, just go in the back door and get in line. Cider is along the back wall of the main room, apples are off to the right side, and donuts and baked goods are at the front counter. Get your goods as you flow through, pay, and head out. When it's not too busy, there are some tables inside to enjoy cider and donuts. There are also some outside, or if the weather is right, you can lay back in the field at the front of the property. But you can just easily enjoy that cider and those donuts somewhere else ... on your leisurely Sunday drive, in front of your fireplace at home, or tailgating. The folks are knowledgeable. Service here is good and family-run. I have seen many of the same faces over the last decade. This is a tough business, but a Michigan country staple. These folks do it right without all the bells and whistles, and for that, I am grateful. read more

Went here immediately after visiting three cedars just down the street. Completely different vibe -- much smaller (at least the customer/retail space) and less busy. We had donuts and hot cider. Total bill came to exactly as much as we spent at Three Cedars but we received 4 more donuts ($4.50 for half dozen and a hot cider). Donuts were clearly superior to Three Cedars with the right amount of cinnamon sugar. The negatives were they tasted a touch oily and they werent warm, despite us seeing them making donuts fresh. Cider was solid and equal to Three Cedars. For donuts and cider this is a much better value and the donuts were a notch above in both our opinions. Overall a nice spot -- will review the jams separately. read more

Odd, this is actually in Salem not Northville, just a heads up. Having bought some of their products at the Plymouth farmer's market I was curious and decided to get a look at the place for myself. This is definitely a low key cider mill which is nice for a change. This place proudly does things a little different, it is a cider mill perfect for the germaphobe in your life. They do pest management under the guidance of MSU for optimal food safety. Each apple is hand picked, they never use drops or damaged apples in any product. All of the apples are washed with triple spiral brushes and given a fresh water bath. The cider is also triple filtered before bottling and after each batch of cider the cider press is completely washed to avoid residues. Then the cider is treated with ultra violet light, which eliminates any bacteria. This treatment is different from heat pasteurizing, it does not change the consistency or taste of natural cider, heat treatment just makes cider turn to apple juice. Good news for me as there is nothing I hate more than pasteurized cider, ugh. They also sell their own cherry juice concentrate which is what I am usually buying from them. Excellent stuff and I highly recommend it. Great vitamin punch and it is said to improve gout (which I have experienced) and lower blood sugars (which I have not experienced sadly). The store is very clean and organized as well. They sell excellent baked goods, the cinnamon donuts are great but so are the pies, they even have sugar free available. All in all a nice place. Love that it is family owned and local. read more

I think Obstbaum Orchards is still a well-kept secret. While the other cider mills in the area get crazy busy, there is only parking available on either side of the long driveway at Obstbaum, but we can always get in. For someone who hates crowds, this is a huge plus. I love the classics here - cider, cinnamon donuts and caramel apples. There are usually a few crafts around the room, but I've never seen anything there that I just had to have. The cider is serve yourself. You pick what you want from the coolers and the donut rack and bring it to the register. When you've had enough of eating, drinking and watching the donuts being made, you can head out to the orchards for a walk around, or take a hay ride. There's lots of fun stuff to see, so we try to make it out here every fall. read more

Amazing donuts, great apples, and quality cider with low prices in a fun setting. We stopped by this morning and had a great time. They have a sign that says "Donuts can't always be hot," but ours were, and they were GREAT! I ate three despite myself, I just couldn't stop. Their apples are fresh and they have low prices on everything but Honeycrisps, their prices on those were a tad high, but they have a LOT of varieties. Check their Facebook page to see what they have before you go. The cider isn't the greatest around, but it was still really good. The pumpkins are cheap and gorgeous, they have a lot of jams and jellies, and the setting is quaint. There are picnic tables, a pumpkin patch, it's great. Bottom line: this is the orchard I'll be going back to you year after year. read more

This feels like a hole-in-the-wall orchard and one of the great benefits is that at least when we went there weren't that many people here. The cider is REALLY awesome and their donuts are really good. I wish they had had warm donuts, if you go here later in the season they are probably busy enough to have warm donuts. Yes, they of course have non-pasteurized cider here and it's delicious. They also sell the usual stuff, apples, pies and wine if I recall etc etc. It's a small location but the outdoor seating is really nice and they have a nice little indoor area with seating and where you can see them make the cider, donuts etc. read more

Been driving by this place for years and finally stopped in on a recommendation from a friend. Very happy that I did. Got some hard cider, some sugar donuts, a caramel apple and a fritter. The fritter was heavenly! The best I've ever had. Donuts were okay, not the very best around but certainly worth trying. The hard cider is the star though. 32 proof! But, very flavorful. This place is not your typical orchard. The pumpkin patch is a small 20 x 20' area. This is not a typical pumpkin patch either. It's very similar to someone selling pumpkins out of their backyard. If you're looking for an apple orchard experience I would not recommend this place. If you are looking for somewhere to pick up apple cider on your way home this is the place to go. However the place is disorganized and the workers are rude. read more

I purchased the last jar of apple butter from Ostbaum Orchards. I was phoning around at various orchards, most of which had sold out. I called Ostbaum Orchards and spoke to Linda who went out of her way to save me their last jar of apple butter. She met me at the open market fair in Plymouth with that jar wrapped up with my name on it. It was the BEST apple Butter that I have ever tasted. A generic brand jar that I had previously purchased from a local super market chain could not compare. The Obstbaum apple butter was SO GOOD!!!!!! I will never buy from a local supermarket again with all of the preservatives and corn syrups. read more

I had to check out their website to be sure I was thinking of the same orchard, because of the high-ish reivews. I was very disappointed with this place. Off the beaten path, I was hoping this would be my wife and my secret cider and donut place during the Fall. I agree that it's quaint and cute on the outside, with a little pumpkin patch and a old-fashioned barn-style storefront. But I was never impressed with the service, and I've always been refused warm donuts. "What's in the bags are all we have" they tell me, even though right across the aisle they are making a fresh batch that goes straight into the bags for the next day, apparently. Cider is good, but the last time I was there it wasn't busy at all, yet it took 15 minutes to get a jug of it refilled from the empty fridge. I saw the owner, who moved slower than molasses in January (pardon the farmer's expression). They had a nice supply of fresh-picked apples, but they're oddly more expensive than the same types at the grocery store. For the quaintness, my wife and I have edged more to Three Cedars Farm...and for donut quality, we just head up to Erwin's. There's nothing worthwhile to visit Obstbaum for, unfortunately. read more

Sadly disappointed with this orchard. We just visited Obstbaum Orchards yesterday, and it was by far my worst Michigan orchard experience of any of the many orchards that I have visited. Not only was the customer service slow and unfriendly, but the donuts were sad and disappointing. Their donuts were not fresh and tasted like day-old leftovers. I have never seen my kids not want a second donuts in my life, but it happened with these. We visit orchards for the fresh cider and donuts, but you will not find fresh donuts here. This orchard is also not a very friendly place. The first thing that I noticed when pulling into the cramped parking lot, is the abundance of signs posted over every inch of the property with "rules" for visitors. Lots of "do not touch" signs. Not warm or inviting. By the way, the parking lot was not cramped because it was packed or busy. It was cramped because of its design and layout. It's small and extremely difficult to exit. We will not be visiting this orchard again. read more

I was excited to find a new orchard to go to with my family, as we like to try out all the ones in the area. While the apples were great, I felt verbally assaulted during most of my visit. There were signs everywhere about what you were NOT to do or touch, yet no signs telling you the process for picking apples. Everywhere I turned I felt like someone was telling me what to do, not providing any level of customer service or making me feel remotely welcome. The icing on the cake was when I asked someone to tell me where to pick apples, and the person who led my family out to the right trees gave me a speech about how I was to fill only the bag I purchased, not putting any apples in my pockets or purse. Wow, nothing like assuming the WORST in people rather than the best, on all levels at this orchard. I have never received treatment like that at any apple orchard. Sadly I won't be going back any time soon nor recommending it to anyone else. There are too many other great orchards in the area to bother with Obstbaum. read more

This orchard is not what it's hyped up to be. I went there Sunday Oct. 12th, and I felt like it was a wasted trip. It just consisted of a small disorganized "country" store and one very long line of people waiting to get up to the counter to buy not so tasty donuts, sub par caramel apples and apple fritters which I was glad they were out of. The "pumpkin patch" only had about 20 pumpkins in it to choose from. I was discouraged to get one or two because you had to lug it into the shop to pay for it. We attempted to sit outside at one of the picnic tables strewn about, but the yellow jackets were far too bad. My boyfriend and I left very disappointed. I was even more disappointed later that evening when I tried the donuts and caramel apple - not good at all. I have yet to try the cider. read more

Love their cider. Donuts are good IF you luck out and get a warm, fresh bag - otherwise you get cold, stale and nasty, greasy doughnuts they put into wax-lined bags that sweat. They sell good varieties of apples and sell pumpkins. A nice orchard to visit if you don't want to be around a lot of whinning kids as they don't offer kiddy stuff. Enjoy an hour break from the city. read more
