This visit to the Franklin Cider Mill was very nostalgic for me. I don't live in the Detroit area anymore and I used to go to the cider mill every year when I was young. When you walk up to the mill you immediately smell the fresh donuts. When you enter the area where the press is located the apples the smell is amazing. There is nothing like fresh cider. The staff seemed friendly and helpful. Of course I went home with both cider and donuts. The mill is easy to find and has plenty of parking, although I would guess it gets very busy. Trusty ole cider mill. We've come here off and on for years. Any Fall that we're in metro Detroit, we're coming to Franklin. 1/2 a dozen donuts and a gallon of unpasteurized cider. You would be right to suggest that un pasteurized is taking a risk. We're so confident in the cleaning of the apples, the equipment and all the high standards they use here, we'll take the risk in order to enjoy the best cider available. The ambience is perfect. Just like old time mills and manufacturers. Like something out of the past. The smells are incredible. Today we are also walking out with salsa, apples, butter and maple syrup. I'm a west coast gal and the hubs is from east coast and he would brag on and on about how good this place is. So one fall season (2024) we decided to go on a trip. The place was bigger then I thought inside was the Presser, and a small store where I picked up a large Amish apple bread baked earlier that morning. 10/2/25 we stopped here to see what all the excitement is about. FCM is a historic place with a working water wheel, nice old Mill and a pretty creek side setting. PARKING IS TIGHT off Franklin Rd so probably best to use the parking lot around the corner. There seems to be plenty of canned goods, baked goods and t-shirts to pick from with prices on the higher side, 4 $$$$ out of 5. We decided to try the cider donuts and although they were warm, perhaps fresh out of the oven, I can't say they are any better tasting (yet much smaller) than the ones from Nino Salvaggio. For the most part the staff were all friendly, the Mill is welcoming and the grounds are nice with ducks in the creek. I'm pretty sure based on packaging that most items are made off site from other sources and shipped in for resale just as they are in local grocery stores. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit the Franklin Cider Mill again for the first time this year on a gorgeous Michigan sunny 80 degree day. I started by trying a grilled cider dog and a bag of Better Made chips made in the Motor City (Detroit) . This was a nice option before getting to the sweet stuff. I had pleasant service and the young gentleman informed me that he was not allowed to take tips when I offered, ...his honesty was refreshing. I then went for the annual standby I look forward to of unpasteurized apple cider and cider mill freshly made donuts which you watch them make through the window that are fantastic! I met another young man, Maximillian, who was filling orders from a queue of customers. He was struggling with his machine to print receipts, but he was so polite while trying to find a way to print me one. I'm looking forward to having a piece of apple pie tonight for dessert. You can pick up your food and cider and there are several benches to sit on while enjoying your treat and watching the ducks and try to avoid the bees that know where the great places are as well. My favorite cider mill in the area is Franklin Cider Mill!! For one, everyone who works here is so genuine and sweet, making it a lovely experience. Secondly, the assortment is always fun to go browse and try new apple-infused things. I love to stop here for a hot cider and donuts before or after any event... fall only comes once a year so I try to make the most of it! Only 4/5 because the donuts aren't very good when you buy them and I feel like that affects my experience. Although with the donut sprinkled and heating them back up, they're a lot better, especially when dipped in warm cider. It's worth mentioning that there is a river with lots of ducks which creates a peaceful and entertaining ambiance. Therefore, coming here can be a quick or more drawn-out activity depending on what you're in the mood for. They even have music sometimes! Must try in Michigan! read more

I've been going here since I was a teenager..a few decades. It has evolved a lot from what I remember. It's really nice to see all the outside seating and outside store that is available now. There is a decent size parking lot. I went on a Thursday around 4, and there were small lines outside and no lines inside. We went inside and ordered the hot cider and two donuts. The hot cider was really good and was close to $6 for about a 12oz cup. I thought the price was high but was really in the mood for some hot cider. We usually get a dozen donuts and they are really fresh, hot, and delicious. This day, we only ordered the two, so they came to close to $2 a piece. They were fairly small and were room temperature. They still had a really nice flavor to them. I would def. go back but would probably ask from the donuts to be fresh next time. read more

I have been a loyal customer since I was around 6...my BH brownie and Girl Scout troop would take us for outings there and from that point on every year I would faithfully and happily pay more than any other cider mill in MI just because I loved the donuts & cider. I am currently 62 and grew up less than 2 miles away. This morning at around 8:40am on 9/19/25, I headed from my downtown Franklin condo heading north bound towards n Franklin Road and pulled into their front entrance (not the one off 14 mile but Franklin) that only has a few spots but I could see from the stop sign no problem there were spots. I wanted to just grab a quick "breakfast of champions" on my way to my Orthopedic surgeons office for some post surgical issues from a hip replacement I got 3 months prior. Once I pulled in (and I drive a NEW not POS black Ram truck) with an extended cab I was faced with an issue. A Range Rover didn't pull up enough nor did a mini van on the opposite side and here I was stuck unable to pass the cars in order to park on the other side. I decided to park in their handicap spot out front because it was the only spot before these cars blocking the driveway. I still had my 6 month temporary handicap parking plaque from surgery but I rarely use it now nor did I think I had to display it since I wasn't staying I was just grabbing something quick and no one there...No big deal, right? Well a short haired middle aged blonde women came out of ?? and started lecturing me about how I parked. She worked there as you could tell by her "merchandising" of the outdoor vignettes and said I was blocking the front entrance. I wasn't, I was directly parked in the handicap spot but again a 6' 4" bed with tight parking. Well I told her 2 cars blocked me in first pointing at them!! I guess she expected me to back out of the angled driveway onto a blind spot on Franklin road? Would the cider mill be responsible for a car accident then since the employee, manager or owner was demanding I move? Was anyone managing the parking, who's responsible for their spots not being deep enough for cars to safely pass let alone a truck thru. I tried to tell her why I had to park there first but she continued to lecture me about how there is parking down off 14 mile for people without handicaps! Well too late I already pulled in and was stuck in the front and I have flippin' handicap privileges issued by the SOM!! ...my last reply to her was I just had hip replacement surgery but thanks for the concern! She just kept walking. What a worthless person to judge people's handicaps just because they aren't visible for her to judge?! I am writing this so you do something about this horrible person, employee whoever she was. She has no people skills obviously and should not be allowed around customers, period. I had every right to park in the handicap spot and instead of having a civil conversation with a customer, instead she resorted to hurling insults at me. I'm done though if that is who you are having running your business. This was the first time your business was not friendly and nice. She will ruin your business and needs to be...gone! Good thing your business isn't 12 months out of the year so hopefully she won't be with you too going forward. It's a shame really. read more

Had to add 2 donuts on and a small bottle of cider to try as I drive them to her office in Novi right? Donuts were good... not amazing but still very good. Not dry and just large enough to not feel like you are eating to much. The cider I absolutely loved !!!!!! It was so crisp/clean, I easily could've finished a gallon solo. My favorite cider mill! I've come here my entire life. I remember coming here in elementary school on a field trip to watch the cider making process. The donuts are perfection and the cider is delicious. These are my favorite donuts. I enjoy walking around and looking at all of the delicious goodies for sale: jams, honey, meats, cheeses, apples and more. The apples are phenomenal. I can't buy apples in the grocery store because they can't compare. My favorite is the honey crisp. So crispy and sweet! I went today and it was a lovely day and very busy. First time visiting a cider mill and I'm glad we chose Franklin. You can watch the apple pressing process and see the huge water wheel. There's also a seating area outside with tables right by the river where you can watch the ducks dip in and out of the water. Choosing what to buy was tough but we ended up with a caramel apple, hot apple cider, apple cider slushy, and apple cider donuts. We originally ordered two donuts but because the cashier was struggling to input our orders correctly, she felt bad that she took up our time so she gave us four donuts on the house. It was really kind of her to do that when she didn't have to. We wasted no time and inhaled the apple cider donuts quick. They're enjoyable and light. Great dipped in hot apple cider on a cold morning. We had the caramel apple as a treat the next day and it was really delicious. The apple was crisp and sweet and it paired so well with the caramel and nuts. If I'm ever in Detroit again in the fall, I would definitely come back to Franklin's for their yummy apple treats. read more

They have streamlined the process do get your hot and fresh donuts, walk up counter outside and an indoor walk up counter with multiple lines to expedite the process and easy to add on fresh pressed apple cider. If honey crisp cider is available get this as these batches have a unique clean flavor that I like better than the standard cider ( which is still delicious). I've been to a lot of cider mills this autumn and Franklin's was the most forgettable with the most overpriced and least tasty items. I appreciated that all the workers wore masks and there were four lines that moved fairly quickly. Customers were also masked up and cooperative. Now, for the most important part. The cider itself was much too sweet and expensive for my taste. I ordered a cup of hot cider and an apple cider slushie. The slushie is $4 and it was served in a small Solo cup that was an absolute rip off. I was shocked that they would serve something like this and not be embarrassed. Both the slushie and the hot cider tasted artificially flavored with way too much sugar added. I could barely finish it. I did not buy any of the donuts. They also sell Franklin Cider Mill made honey cake, zucchini bread, and apple pies made by Blazo's Pie Shoppe. Franklin is a beautiful upscale town that I enjoyed driving through to admire the fall colors, but I would not return to this cider mill. A cider mill in western Oakland County I recommend is Parmenter's Northville Cider Mill. That cider mill is only doing drive-thru during COVID, but the car lines move quickly and you can get a slushie there for $5 that is not as sweet and more than twice as large as what is served at Franklin Cider Mill. Two other cider mills in northwest Oakland County I recommend are Diehl's Orchard in Holly and Parshallville Cider Mill in Fenton. read more

My all time favorite donuts have always been plain cake donuts. Who knew Michigan has a season dedicated to donuts?! For my first time at this cider mill, we went with the original cider. No complaints! We got 2 cups to enough a nice brisk evening with hot donuts and cider. This is a great location since everything is outside. If it's too cold, your car is a great place too! My Cali blood said let's enjoy our hot donuts in the car. We placed our order for a half gallon of the honeycrisp cider and a dozen donuts so when we arrived it was easy to just pick up our treats with very little contact. We prepaid too so we didn't have to fuss with that part. Everyone was masked and though they limited the seating this year it's all safely spaced out. I appreciate all the things that they are doing in light of Covid-19: * Masks required everywhere * employees wearing masks and gloves * social distancing enforced * 4 roped-off lines for ordering at the window * employees encouraging people to keep moving and not linger * I'm not sure if they are taking cash right now, but they were accepting plastic I grabbed an Apple cider slushy, a gallon of cider, and a few dozen donuts for the fam. The lines looked long, but they do a really good job of keeping things moving. They are accepting plastic now, making everything that much quicker. There are employees throughout to keep people from mingling and gathering in groups. They do still have some tables out and some benches, but it seems like they've spaced things out to keep people distanced. As usual, dogs are welcome. So many cute 4-legged friends everywhere! I love being in the Northern Part of the US, where there are so many great cider mills and orchards! Since I tend to go to Michigan & Detroit often, a friend of mine told me that I have to check this place out. And I'm glad he did! Now, I will say the parking is tricky. I got there about 10am on a weekday, but I can imagine on Saturdays, that it's hard to snag a spot. Now, unlike a lot of orchards, they only have cider and some baked goods, and that's fine with me! The cider was amazing! And I love the donuts, because they weren't caked in cinnamon sugar or icing like a lot of cider donuts tend to be. This was definitely a great stop. I think it's only open from Labor Day through the Fall though, so keep that in mind. But I highly recommend it if you're in the Detroit area! read more

This is a pretty cool cider mill to check out! It's free. It's not open all year round, but lots of people come just to get jugs of cider and donuts. We parked in a dirt lot, which I can imagine fills up quickly on much better weather days of the year. There's a cute little creek you can walk over through a bridge. Lots of ducks hang out here. Cute! You can see a wheel going round and a round. Inside, you can watch them press the apples in order to get the juice. We bought some hot cider and cider donuts. Yum! Tasty!
