My overall experience with OC Coast realty, in specific, Deborah Gordon, was painful at best. They bill themselves as a boutique real estate firm that specializes in high end properties. As if finding office space to lease in Laguna Beach qualifies that statement. I was mistreated and ignored for larger clients. Appointments for viewings were made, Deborah Gordon didn't even show! I called after waiting 20 minutes for her to smugly say she wasn't going to be able to make it after all. And this after she insisted on that time because she was a "busy person". In every phone conversation she repetitively stated her agent fee was 3%, as if I was going to forget her cut. I may not be in the market for the 5 mil house but that lack of professionalism and snobby attitude is unexpected, especially in this market. read more

About a year ago we needed to move for my job relocation from San Francisco to Orange County. I wasn't sure where to start so while searching the web I found Jay Gordon at Orange Coast Reality. Jay was able to understand our needs and in one weekend he had lined up several places for us to see. He was totally spot on as for our taste and finding something that fit for my situation. Unfortunately a year later I needed to move again and Jay was my first call. Jay is outstanding and has great follow through. We could not be happier with what Jay found for us and we would not have found the properties on our own. Whether you are for a big place, small place, inexpensive or budget location just tell Jay all the details and let him do the work for you. My husband and I recently relocated here from Pennsylvania area. We had originally planned to live with my mother temporarily but then, during a Mother's Day visit, decided we needed to find our own place. We had only a few days to search for a place and decide quickly before we actually moved here. Jay was the only realtor who actually responded to my emails and phone calls and worked over Mother's Day weekend to show us several places. We returned back to the East Coast without securing a place (even though Jay helped us get all of the places we looked at) and then, found one new listing that showed up that met all of our needs perfectly - in Aliso Viejo. We asked Jay to help us get this place. After seeing all of our options, we really wanted this place for our family of four. I don't know what Jay did, but he made sure we beat out 16 other qualified applicants to get us the place. We have moved in and really love the place. The landlady also confirmed we had beaten out 16 other very qualified applicants. Jay was persistent, patient (even while we were communicating cross-country) and he never once was annoyed by my constant emails/texts for status updates. I will admit we were skeptical initially, but Jay absolutely came through for us, and we owe him a big thank you for all the work he did helping us secure the place. We transferred the funds to him and He took care of the security deposit, first month rent, with our landlord (since we were not in CA). I would recommend Jay again to anyone. read more

I too, came close to losing my money to this fellow. I am a single mom going through a divorce and i believe he saw me as a great target to take advantage of. Never, NEVER give anyone a security deposit up front..this is what he told me to do at the start of the process. He said it was standard practice...it is not. I almost lost my rental because Jay never sent the initial deposit, and his second check to them bounced. I eventually had to threaten legal action. I am in a rental home but it was a stressful experience..i felt like no one liked my application, i have good credit, references, and income. I believe he may have been stalling to hold onto my money. His other website is ochouserentals.com....if you come across this site, it's the same person. He also has a restricted real estate license. you can look it up under the department of real estate website, and his license number is: 01714809 which is different than the one he lists on his business card. Jay Gordon is dishonest. I'm a local handyman who did a job for him and he wouldn't pay me. I could recount a page full of stories of his dishonest behavior. I saw Jay by accident again two weeks ago. He said the check will be sent within a week. Still haven't seen it. I can't believe he would rip me off for a lousy $125.00. I found OC Coast Realty on Craigslist while my husband and I was looking for a house rental in the OC. We are originally from San Francisco and decided to come down to So Cal for a change. We drove through the OC on a business trip and thought this was a pretty area, maybe we can buy a house here too. Long story short. - - My husband and I have been looking at places to rent before we buy -- for 3 Months and finally decided to ask an agent for help. OC Rental popped up on Craigslist and I shot them an email from my spam email account, just in case I run into a scammer. Debra Gordon emailed me back with a few questions and I kindly answered. Then she sent me a list of homes that met our criteria -- Under $3000 a month, take pets, 3-4 bedrooms, with a yard. That weekend we drove down from S.F. prepared to find a new place call home. Debra showed up with her husband 5 minutes late (I was prior military - - -always be 5 minutes early) in a nice car. My husband and my first thought was . . . do we have to spend all day with a Realtor (we are adverse to sales people). We reluctantly got out of our car and met them. WOW! we were shocked. They were down to earth, friendly, and not pretentious at all. Please note: I was in my scrubby clothes the entire time with no make-up. So they showed us about 6 homes, where my husband and I being spoiled brats, was not happy with. Debra emailed me asking for a game plan, and we decided to give it one more go. Two week before Thanksgiving Day, Jay Gordon met up with us and showed us an few more homes. WE found it and decided to rent it. We got our application and deposit down. My husband and I are people that like to have things right here and now, so we were hoping that we can find out if we got the place ASAP. It took 3 days, then another week before we finalized everything. It was not OC Coast Realty's fault. Jay was on top of things and we appreciated that. If there was a zero on this scale, I would have selected it. My wife and I were expecting our first child. my wife is 8 months pregnant and so we decided to move into a larger home for a while. We rented our home quickly by owner. Then our real estate agent found a home for us that was being listed by Jason (Jay) Gordon. We were accepted and told we needed to give our security deposit that day in order to take it off the market. That was Dec 23rd. We gave our check to our real estate agent and Jay was quick to pick it up. He was supposed to drop off the contract but said he needed a couple of items from the landlord before he could get it together. When we checked our bank account it was cashed the same day he received it. Fast forward to December 28th and still no contract or contact from Jay. It was once we threatened him to pull out that it magically appeared. It was wrong and didn't even have our name on it. So, finally Dec 30th we get the correct one. We sign on Jan 2nd and were good to go... ... Or so we thought. The home was trashed, the former tenants items were everywhere and it was just dirty. Our impression was Jay being a property manager was going to clean it all up. He said it was being taken care of. Then there was no call back and there's always a family emergency. So we did it ourselves and had to take it out of the rent (just the maid service not trash removal) The heater didn't work, but Jay was quick to send the call to voice mail. He just didn't care. Eventually I got the landlord's email on a CC and communicated with him directly and everything was great. The next time I saw Jay was when he came to pick up his check for a new year. Fast forward to the end of our 2nd year. We moved out and got a new place. My wife had painted some of the walls, so she painted them with a fresh new coat and even fixed the holes that were there when we moved in. We didn't see the need to clean and there was no new damage. I did the walk thru with Jay and he said everything was fine and he'd send a check to my new residence and even took my new address down. 2 weeks later I get an email documenting the damage as mine! Wow, the nerve of this guy. He didn't give me a move out statement, didn't give me professional estimate of damages until after 21 days and didn't have before pictures (like I did) showing the issues with the house. After about a week of fighting my wife and I settled on going to small claims court to sue the landlord and Jay. It was the landlord who saved Jay's behind and saved him from getting sued by settling with us in an email. Even the landlord stated that he's "stuck with Jay" and wish he never used him to begin with. DON'T ENTRUST YOUR HOME, YOUR DEPOSIT, OR YOUR FUTURE RESIDENCE WITH JAY GORDON. There are plenty of property managers who can do the job and do it well... This is not one of them. read more

I really and truly don't know where to begin in doing this review for OC House Rentals, and specifically Jay Gordon. We've had such an incredible experience with the company, and Jay, and next month our family is moving into a dream home! Our family had just sold our home in Austin, TX and I had been perusing through Craigslist looking for a house to lease, when I spotted one that I liked in Laguna Niguel. I called OC House Rentals around 10am, and by 4pm that afternoon I was viewing the home with our family and Jay. We absolutely fell in love with the house, and Jay had us put together an incredible packet for the homeowners that was the deciding factor in them choosing us over 20+other applicants. He had us do a letter of introduction to the homeowners talking about our family, and I truly believe it was this personal touch that made our application packet stand out from the rest. Jay was accessible anytime to answer questions and talk to us about the process and timeline we would be going through leading up to move-in. He was open to meet at anytime and he personally came to our house to pick up paperwork and make sure it got to the homeowners agent in a timely manner. Jay has an amazing ability to make what could possibly be a stressful situation very relaxed and easy. He does the worrying for you so you can concentrate on other things - like packing up your house or planning a move I would absolutely recommend him to my friends and family considering buying or leasing a home in Orange County. My husband and I just moved from Atlanta to Orange County, and I found Jay on Craigslist to help us find a rental home. We had many issues with him, but I'll just name a few. First, before we came out to OC, we found a house in his listing that we loved. He assured us that if we put down a deposit on it, through his company, it would be held for us until we saw it the next week. So we transferred $2500 to his account and expected to sign the lease a week later. When we got to CA, for some reason we were not able to see the house we were 'holding' and Jay still had our money. We found out that it was leased to another person during this time and that Jay was obviously lying about the deposit. Jay was also late to every single meeting. It became a joke between my husband and I to guess just how late he would be. He took us around for 2 days to see houses and that was the only pleasant part of this experience. We found a house that we loved and wanted to rent. We moved forward with the lease, but there were many issues that needed to be resolved and many papers to be signed. It seemed as though once Jay had the leased signed and would be receiving his commission, he was through with us. He stopped returning my emails and calls, as well as any communication with the owners' realtor. I also found out that he lied to the owners' realtor....apparently there was another form we needed to sign that he was given, but we never knew about it. I found out that Jay had told their relator he was waiting on us to sign it, but he had never even told us about it! I couldn't believe that he would lie about his own clients and make us look bad to the owner. After everything was official, I asked him over and over again to send us a copy of the signed lease, but he did not respond. He also would not send us the walk-through papers we needed. I don't know what I would have done if it hadn't been for the owners' realtor, who thankfully sent us all of these things. We do not find Jay to be a person you can trust, especially when it comes to money. He may be able to show you plenty of great homes, but he sure made the whole process a lot more difficult and stressful. read more

Our experience with OC Coast realty and Jay Gordon, was the most painful experience we ever had with any real estate agent. He was the bottleneck in the process of renting a property. The simple and straightforward process was turned into bureaucratic and painful experience. We were ignored. Our calls and emails were not forwarded to our landlords or their agent in timely manner. When we requested to communicate with our landlords or their agent directly, we were told that we are not allowed to. Only by the end of the process we were able to obtain their emails and phone numbers and were told that we are welcome to contact them directly. The only time when he was responsive and on top of things is when he requested money. Then he emails and calls non-stop until he gets it. This person definitely lacks professionalism and just plain good working habits and ethics. Since he is so "busy", he will never be contacted by us or any of our friends. Oh, yes, we will make sure that none of them will be dealing with him. We will be looking for a house to buy in the near future. And you guessed it right: he is NOT the one who will get our business. read more

I was also scammed by Jay Gordon. I gave him a down payment for a home and he stole it. He later admitted that he did and said that he would pay me back in payments (after telling me a long sob story). I was a single mom of a disabled son and made the mistake of taking the down payment out of my 401(k). Although he did pay me a few small payments, I ended up having to also pay a penalty on my taxes at the end of the year. It's been a couple years now and his phone numbers are conveniently disconnected. I am now going to have to hire an attorney. Please do not trust him!! read more

OC Coast Realty/Jay Gordon is very shady. I was looking for a house to lease and found one that interested me on Craigslist. I replied to the posting, Jay Gordon responded pretty quickly. We then agreed on a time/day to view the house. When the time came, Jay mysteriously became unresponsive, my calls were ignored. I really liked the house, so decided to drive by the house and was surprised to find that OC OC Coast is not the listing agent for the house. Apparently what they do is to post houses for lease on Craigslist, and make it appear as if they are the listing agents. In reality, they hope to act only as a middleman. Naturally, when you find anything posted on Craigslist, you expect it to be posted by the seller or in the case of realty, the listing agent. My guess is that in may case, Jay Gordon setup a viewing time with me but couldn't get it setup with the actual listing agent. The whole time, Jay Gordon acted as if he had the house listed. There wasn;t too much pain in my instance because I uncovered shenanigans early. But any business/person that resorts to tactics like this cannot be trusted. read more

Jay Gordon, aka ochouserentals, aka occoastrealty, aka velocity real estate group, etc, etc. Lives off of other peoples money. He has six children and wants to pretend to live the hi-life. A perfect example of this is his listing 668 Pacific Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, CA as his office when in reality it is nothing but a mailbox at a UPS Store. The store has been there for over ten years so the mailbox is all that Jay has ever had there. He rents an apartment (standard grade) in Irvine. Once you realize these things about him, then to his credit he is able to locate and show properties, and is generally able to secure the properties he shows when other realtors are unable to. Its sort of a mixed bag of plusses and minuses with Jay. Best idea, don't give him money until he secures the rental and a lease is ready to be put in place. Hr may just get you a rental you want that others lack the connections and influence to get for you. read more
